Memorization Don’t forget Why We Exist. Don’t forget why you exist.
Your Lenten challenge this year is to meditate daily on and memorize a key passage
from our January sermon series. You will receive a new passage each week.

MARCH SASSY SAGES ROADRUNNER’S TRIP –Sign up deadline today!
March 17th
the Sassy Roadrunner’s will hit the highway to visit the national headquarters of “The Upper Room”
publication and to visit their chapel. The focal point of The Upper Room Chapel is a nearly life-size woodcarving
of Leonardo da Vinci's painting. The Last Supper, sculpted by Ernest Pellegrini of A. H. Davenport, Irving and
Casson of Boston, MA. The woodcarving is an extraordinary work of art, created by fifty people over fourteen
months' time. The carving is seventeen feet wide and eight feet high and seems to have a depth of many feet,
although the greatest depth in the carving is only eight inches. In the Chapel you will also see the beautiful, World
Christian Fellowship Window that is 20 feet high and 8 feet wide, and has over 9,000 pieces of glass. It honors the
presence of the Holy Spirit in the original upper room. Call the church office (256-734-0344) to sign up.

Coming Holy Week
Crosses of Commitment The cross and the empty tomb are the key symbols of our faith. The empty tomb reminds us death has been
defeated and the grave conquered. The cross reminds us of God's commitment to us and Christ's death speaks to
the lengths which God would go to show us that he loves us and is for us. Join us this Lenten season by bringing
Crosses to be placed in designated spaces the Atrium on Good Friday.
Good Friday (12:30 and 6:00) services will be held in the Atrium to hang our crosses. Sizes can be of varied
sizes and up to a 9”x14”. No framed crosses please. Crosses will remain on the walls in the atrium for an
indefinite time. Please write your name on the back of your cross.
BOOK CLUB NEWS
We had our first book club discussion this past Sunday Night. It was a great time of fellowship and pondering our
thoughts on “The way is made by Walking.” We will begin meeting every First Sunday Night at 5:00 P.M. in
the confirmation room. Our next meeting is April 3, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. Our new book is "The Mystery of the
Cross" by Judith Couchman. The author takes up 40 images of the cross from early Christianity. We discover
their meaning and learn a little about the early church. She helps us focus on the significance of the cross and the
Savior’s sacrifice. These artful readings will enrich your understanding of Christian tradition, draw you into
Christ’s presence and deepen your appreciation for the mystery of the cross. Come by the church office to pick up
your 5.00 Copy.

James Fields
James Fields grew up in Colony, Alabama, (a community in Cullman County), attended Hanceville High School
and graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in law enforcement. Later he attended the Marine
Corps Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and after completing two years of officers’ training he was honorably
discharged. James is a former Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing the
12th District from February 2008 to 2010.[1]
Fields and his wife, Yvette Moorer Fields, have seven children and 18
grandchildren, and he currently serves as Senior Pastor at Saint James United Methodist Church, in Birmingham
Al.
