The Chosen Photos

Page 2: The chosen photos

The main photo…I have chosen this photo for several reasons. I like the pose that George is in, facing to the side, suggesting the possibility that he has another side to him that if you watch the film you will find out. Also we have made sure that he fits the frame without cutting the top of his cap off and making sure that we got what we wanted in the frame and nothing more.

I also like how we have got his badged I on his arm showing he is wearing his uniform and holding his medals. It clearly shows the viewer that it is a war film because of the uniform. He is looking straight forward and not looking at what he is holding to suggest he is dreaming and looking at something else, which, of course, you will only know what if you watch it. There is a shadow over his eyes from the cap, which connotes the unknown as the ‘eyes are the window to the soul’ yet they are covered.

Also on the poster…This is one of the photos that I shown on a previous slide. In case you haven’t seen it I will talk through this one and why I chose it. I chose this photo because of the position we have him in, looking straight and strong starring straight ahead. He doesn’t look timid or weak or crouched over to suggest this. He looks like he is focused on doing his job and making sure he is prepared for what is ahead. This photo is good to use because he is in the uniform which is the same uniform to the main photo but we have also angled the camera so we look up to him slightly which makes him look stronger and more powerful. Light is shining onto him on one side similar to the ‘War Horse’ photo to make it seem like there is victory coming possibly? This is good in contradiction to what the main photo is like which makes you think twice about both of the photo’s and what they are trying to show.
