The Classroom Cricket (A “little” poem from Mrs. Pontius’ Class)

By Period 3/10

The Crick did appear

The Crick made a buzz

It was visiting Dakota Among the carpet fuzz.

The Crick made a jump The Crick made a hop

Amber made a scream And the classroom did stop.

The Crick took a little bounce Onto Jessica’s open hand

Into a Ziploc he was saved And a rescue was planned.

Both Jainisa and Jessica Escorted the little lad

Outside to the sunny grass

Where the Crick was feel-ing glad.

Mental Health Awareness

Three mandated State Board of Education rules related to required instruction in health education topics impacting middle and high school students were approved for the 2019.-

2020 school year. The rules are: Rule 6A-1.094121, F.A.C. – Mental and Emotional Health Education; Rule 6A-1.094122, F.A.C. – Substance Use and Abuse Prevention Ed-

ucation; and Rule 6A-1.0642123, F.A.C. – Child Trafficking Prevention Education. In order to meet these mandated state requirements, your child will engage in new curricu-lum during the second semester. The School District of Lee County has chosen the Edge-nuity Purpose Prep prevention curriculum to fulfill these requirements. Edgenuity Pur-

pose Prep is a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive offering with unique lessons focused on equipping students with strategies, resources and awareness related to topics

prescribed in the State Board of Education Rules. Topics include: mental health (recognition, prevention, awareness and assistance), awareness of community resources, coping techniques, strategies to support one another, suicide prevention, and prevention of abuse and addition to alcohol, nicotine and drugs. If you have questions or concerns,

please contact the school administration and/or a guidance counselor.
