Union Board Cancels1957 Spring Carnival

A growing tradition here at theUniversity was stifled this yearwhen the Illini Union Board votednot to hold the annual Spring Carnival.

Spring Carnival has grown to bea major extravaganza of amazingproportions. House-s were spendingup to five months preparing fortheir Spring Carnival entries.

The proceeds of Spring Carnivalwent to charity and a major pointof dissension was that the houseswere spending more on their entriesthan the carnival realized forcharity.

An extended controversy over

the method of pairing houses forSpring Carnival delayed preparations fo]' the event so long thatthei'e wasn't enough time left toproperly organize it and abandonment of Carnival at least for thisyear was inevitable.

Plans are being made for a Campus Fair to be held on the nightoriginally scheduled for SpringCarnival, April 27, so some breakfrom the long spring semester isin order.

Charles (Chuck) Ross '54, Pea-body Museum, Yale University,New Haven, Conn., writes, "The

, Army let go of me in June, 1956• and since that time I've been get-, ting back into the school routine.

I went back to the University of[ Colorado for a few courses and1 hope to get a master's degree fromI there in geology when I finally

get my thesis revised and approved.

"I was lucky enough to get ac-'' cepted at Yale this fall so I am• continuing my studies in geology

here. The outlook is for a degree^ in about 1959 from there if all^ goes well, then out to the cold

world of making a living. The onlyy regret I have about Yale is thate Lambda Chi Alpha doesn't haves ,a chapter there.i- "You fellows certainly have done

a fine job at 209 E. Armory andmay I send my congratulations

d and best wishes in the years toe come."

The Moores third child, NancyJean, was born July 9, 1956. Theolder children are David, 41 yearsold, and Carolyn Jo, li years old. They all reside at 2637 PittsfieldBlvd., Ann Arbor, Mich.

He writes, "My wife Joanne andI were very disappointed in theresults of the Michigan-Illinoisfootball game. The Illini gave usplenty to cheer about early in thegame, but our voices faded out bythe end. However, it was fine tosee the band and Chief Illiniwekagain."

Paul A. Kuhn '54 moved to 807WoodlaAvn, Muscatine, Iowa, wherehe joined the Stanley EngineeringCo. He also received his M.S. incivil engineering from the University of Wisconsin in August.
