Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Daniel the Prophet Conference

In this Sunday’s Gospel, we find that Jesus “...went around all of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.” This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to proclaim the good news of the kingdom to poor.

If you know of someone who is in the hospital, nursing home or homebound and would like a visit from one of our St. Vincent de Paul Vincentians, please call us at 312-608-6517.

THE CALL TO PRAYER Let us pause to take time out for a few minutes of prayer. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to : John John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’ I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.” John testified further, saying, “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain upon him. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.” Reflection Question: The psalmist sings, “I have waited, waited for the Lord.” Patience is a difficult spiritual virtue to cultivate. How do you “wait on the Lord” and what practices help you in times where patience is required? Group Discussion or Meditation: Say the Our Father Concluding Prayer: Almighty ever-living God, who, govern all things, both in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear the pleading of your people and bestow your peace on our times. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

PLEASE MAKE A MEATLOAF FOR THE HOMELESS

Our wonderful volunteers from St Daniel's will be going to SW Chicago Homeless Services Facility (formerly Known as PADS) this Tuesday January 21st. If you are willing to make a meatloaf please drop it off at the rectory (5300 S Natoma Ave.) no later than 5:00 PM on that date. Also needed are large 1 quart cans of gravy, boxes of instant potatoes, extra large bags of corn or mixed vegetables and loaves of bread. Thanks To All who donated various food, baked goods, clothing and toiletries and to our wonderful volunteers that came to the shelter to help out. Your help is greatly appreciated and made a big difference during the Christmas Season when a hungry person can sit down and have a nice hot supper. One note for this season, the program will run through March 2020: shortened by one month. The shelter has reduced service days to 4 days per week: Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays ONLY. If you have any questions, please call Gary at 773-919-3192. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me…” ~Matthew 25:35

We are in great need of Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors for all of our English Masses. If you are interested in joining one or both of these rewarding ministries please call the rectory and we will give your name

and number to the person in charge of the Mass you would like to minister at.

WEEKLY CALENDAR Health Quest - Respect for Life. This week we commemorate the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v Wade (January 22, 1973) that legalized abortion on demand in our country. Since then, over 50 million lives have been lost to abortion. The following quotes from Pope Francis give us ideas to ponder regarding the gift of life: “The right to life is the first human right.” “All life has inestimable value; even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.” Your Parish Nurses

Would you like to help provide a child with a quality Catholic education here at St. Daniel the Prophet School? The State of Illinois created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois State income tax credit to individuals who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools in Cook and Lake Counties. 2 FOR 1 MATCHING PROGRAM: To increase the funds available for scholarships next year, several donors have partnered with the scholarship granting organization Empower Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago to create a matching gift pool. Every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to an Archdiocesan school will be matched with two dollars from this pool (limitations apply). This means that if you donate $1,000, your donation will have a net cost of $250 (you get $750 back on your state taxes) and your donation will provide a total of $3,000 to use for student scholarships. Won’t you please consider donating to this wonderful cause? You can specifically designate your donation for St. Daniel the Prophet School. Please see this link for all the information you need to make a donation https://schools.archchicago.org/donating-to-a-tax-credit-scholarship If you have any questions, please call the St. Daniel the Prophet School office at 773-586-1225 Thank you, Mrs. Cynthia Zabilka, Principal

The Youth of Divine Mercy Club at St. Daniel the Prophet School made 31 fleece blankets for nap time for children in the Head Start program sponsored by Catholic Charities in the Joliet Diocese. They also made 8 fleece scarves. The blankets and scarves carry a tag that says "Handmade with Love." The Club's mission is to help others realize that one of the ways we show Jesus' love is by serving others with our hearts and hands.

Przyszedł on na świadectwo, aby zaświadczyć o Światłości”. Imię to w sposób bezpośredni nawiązywało do cierpiącego Sługi Jahwe z Księgi proroka Izajasza oraz do baranka paschalnego z Księgi Wyjścia.
