Father Marcin, what’s new? Thank you so much for the kind words and congratulations on my US citizenship. I truly appreciate it! I was surprised to get a nice pair of blue wool socks from a parishioner. There is no doubt, I will survive this winter, moreover, blue is my favorite color! I also received a beautiful arrangement of flowers in red, white and blue from another parishioner, I love fresh flowers! On Sunday, January 26, at 8.30am Mass we celebrated Catholic Schools Week. I truly enjoyed celebrating this Mass with our children, families and staff of Divine Providence School. It was wonderful to experience a full house. (The last time the church was full was on Christmas.)
Thank you to all who stopped by at Divine Providence School for the Open House after Mass. It was a very nice turn out! As a pastor, I am very proud and happy to have a great, solid school. Please continue to support the Catholic education in Westchester. Our students are our future! On Wednesday, February 5, the Over 50 Club of Divine Providence and Divine Infant Jesus hosted a special guest speaker. Mr. Paul Gattuso, Mayor of Westchester, visited with the Over 50 members and talked about our community of Westchester. It was a very nice social event. I am very grateful to Paul for all his help and support of our parish! On February 14, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day, which is also a feast day of Cyril and Methodius, two brothers, who are one of the patrons of Europe. Let us share the gift of God’s love on this special day! I was baptized on February 14 and my first parish assignment as a priest was at SS. Cyril & Methodius in Lemont. On February 15 & 16, the Annual Catholic Appeal will take place in our parish and across the Archdiocese of Chicago. The 2020 goal for Mary, Mother of Divine Grace is: $80,905. As you know, when contributions exceed the goal, our parish will receive a rebate from the donated funds. Thank you for your participation. On Saturday, February 22, at 11:30am, at Divine Providence Church, our parish children who are preparing for First Holy Communion will receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation. Please, pray for those children and their families! Finally, on Wednesday, February 26, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday and start the season of Lent. Please watch the bulletin for more details. As your pastor, I am very thankful for your prayers, support and donations toward our new parish; Mary, Mother of Divine Grace! May God reward your kindness with good health and graces you and your family need every day. With the gift of gratitude and prayer, Fr. Marcin Szczypula PS. Stay warm!

Adult Choir Welcoming New Members
The Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Adult Choir opens up for newcomers at the beginning of each of the choir seasons. Currently, the Adult Choir is ready to begin the Lent/Easter season so newcomers are welcome to join us at our rehearsal on Wednesday, February 19, from 7:15pm until 9:15pm in the music area of Divine Infant Church. The only requirements to join this group are a blend-able singing voice as well as the time dedication to devote to regular weekly rehearsals and liturgies. A complete schedule of events for the season will be distributed at that rehearsal.
The Resurrection Choir sings year-round at funerals. The only requirements to join this group are a blend-able singing voice and availability for funerals Monday through Saturday usually at 10am when there is a funeral. Currently, this group does funerals at Divine Infant Church regularly or at Divine Providence Church, upon request. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Judy Schindler at [email protected].
Our other music groups, Divine Angel Choir, Hand Chimes Ensemble, Divine Singers, and Strings of Faith are already in session for the new season and our Youth Ensemble is working toward re-building.
For further information about joining any of our music groups, please contact Janet Reif, Director of Music Ministry, [email protected], 708-531-9495 or call either rectory and leave a message for Janet.
Welcome to “Jesus School,” the Religious Education Program of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish
These are the words I used to welcome our children at the opening assembly on the first day of the Religious Education classes at Divine Infant Jesus on Monday, September 9, 2019; and at Divine Providence on Wednesday, September 11, 2019! I call both of our Religious Education Programs “Jesus Schools” because I want our children to know, from their tender years, that Jesus loves them and that he is the center of their lives. Learning about Jesus and about the mysteries of our Catholic Faith will, therefore, make their lives meaningful and complete. Jesus Christ unites us to God our heavenly Father and without him we cannot inherit his heavenly kingdom. For Jesus himself said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Our children are invited to learn Jesus’ way so that they can talk, think, pray, love, obey and serve others like Jesus did. As we gather to pray, we so often apply our famous clapping to the tune of the words, “WHAT WOULD JESUS DO,” which is a constant reminder to all of us to base our actions on Jesus’ way of love.
We are very grateful to our Pastor, Fr. Marcin who came up with a great vision of having one Religious Education Program for our new parish, hosted/run at two different locations under one administration. This was a giant leap of faith we had to take and by God’s grace, our RE Program is up and running for the year 2019 - 2020. The process of having a united RE Program involved changing some things, combining others, adjusting some, dropping some altogether while keeping quite a few the same. We are very grateful to the Parish Staff and to the Religious Education Staff of faith-filled and dedicated volunteers at both locations, who responded to the call of Evangelizing our children, regardless of the rather changed circumstances. And what can I say about our dear parents? We thank them for their patience as we tried to figure out a new direction for our two combined parishes and its ministries and for adjusting to the few changes that occurred to our RE Programs.
All this and their great faith in God enabled us to plan for the new year of Religious Education successfully.
Sr. Christine Nantaba, IHMR Religious Education Administrator

ASH WEDNESDAY February 26
The ashes are made from the blessed palms used in the previous years Palm Sunday celebration. Baskets are in the Divine Providence Narthex for depositing used palms in preparation of Ash Wednesday.
Saints Cyril and Methodius
The Greek missionaries Saints Cyril (827-869)
and Methodius (825-885) were the apostles of the
Slavic peoples. Preaching Christianity in the native
language, they brought the Slavic countries firmly into the sphere of the
Christian Church.
Lenten Prayer Journey: What is Catholic Social Teaching?
This year’s series of gatherings for Lent will meditate on Catholic Social Teaching—what it is, why it is important and how it challenges us in our walk as disciples of Jesus.
Catholic Social Teaching distills what our Faith says to us about the issues of life, family, work, the environment, our rights and responsibilities, the option for the poor, and solidarity.
These one hour sessions of formation, prayer and conversation will be non-partisan and non-political. Jesus did not bequeath us a political party.
No prior education or familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching is required. Rather, all are invited to gather with Deacon Richard after the 8am Mass on the five March Mondays of Lent, beginning on March 2, and continuing through March 30. This same conversation will be repeated at the Divine Infant campus on those same Mondays, with DI sessions beginning at 6:30pm.
Catholic Social Teaching is sometimes called “the Church’s best kept secret.” Come, learn about this “secret” and let us pray to have our eyes opened to what the Redeemer is doing in our world.
