Neighbors in Need

Your donations go into a fund to purchase bus passes, buy supplies used for our Snack Bag project and help with other needs that come to Father Je-rabek’s attention. WE ARE ALWAYS SO APPRECIATIVE OF YOUR SUPPORT AND GRATEFUL FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
LENTEN FASTING AND ABSTINENCE REGULATIONS
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. The norms on fasting are obligato-ry from age 18 until age 59. Pregnant women and others for whom fasting would be perilous to their health are exempted. Those fast-ing are permitted to eat one full meal; two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning ab-stinence from meat are binding for all from age 14 onwards. Broths made from meat (as long as there are no pieces of meat in it) are permissible according to the letter of the law, though per-haps not fully coherent with its spirit. Vegetarians do well on days of abstinence to give up a certain food or dish that they regularly enjoy, since they already give up meat, not for penitential reasons, but as a way of life.
Easter Cards For Our Homebound Parishioners
Would your family please pray in a special way for a homebound Parishioner this Lenten and Easter Season? An Easter card with your spiritual bouquet, including a family photo, would truly lift the spirits of our beloved Senior members! Please call the Parish office or email [email protected] to participate. Our Minister to Seniors, Priscilla Davis visits over 35 folks a week! She will joyfully deliver the cards and prayers for us!
THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH IS OPEN EVERY DAY!
Please be sure to stop by the Cathedral to pray before the Most Blessed Sacrament, present in the
tabernacle; to pick up a bottle of holy water if you don’t have one, or refill the one you have (tank in back
corner); to take Stations of the Cross booklets so that you can pray with your family at home; to light a candle
and enjoy a few moments of quiet!
The church is open every day, 7am-7pm, during this time. Our parish office is closed until further notice.

NOTES: 1. The terms of our contract with the Noack Pipe Organ Co. include quarterly adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index. 2. This budget is to contract with Organ Clearing House of New York for the removal of the existing instrument, preparatory work, and
coordination of the new instrument’s installation. Other expenses in this category include the architect’s fees, HVAC and electrical work, door replacement and finishes, remediation of the choir loft floor, etc., plus a five percent contingency.
3. During the interim period of approximately six months (hopefully less!) between the removal of the old instrument and the completion of the new (not just installation, but also tonal finishing and other adjustments), we will rent an electronic organ from a local vendor.
4. Later in 2021, a formal dedication of the new instrument will be held, with an invited recitalist and a reception. 5. There were no new costs in this area during February 2020. 6. Cash on hand (and payments already made) comes from the Anna Catharine Grace Memorial Gift of $1,181,227.44, as well as capital
campaign donations, pipe organ fund donations, and interest earned, cumulatively totaling $593,510.72 through 2/29/2020.
Sloth often is listed last among the Capital Sins (so called
because all other sins come from one or more of them). Just
because we don’t see ourselves as lazy doesn’t mean we
are not slothful. We may be frantically busy with all the
wrong or less important matters of our lives and still be
slothful about spiritual matters. If we think at all about it, we
know this happens. We become distracted and maybe
complacent, satisfied we are doing all we can. In fact, we
may be chasing down the wrong highway at a hundred miles
per hour and missing our direction entirely. Think of the
women of Jerusalem who could have stayed at home, or at
the edge of the rowdy crowd along Jesus’ painful way to
Golgotha and his crucifixion. Some of them braved the
crowd and the Roman guards, and one of them, St.
Veronica, stepped forward and wiped his face. Looking into
the face of Jesus – as we can do – and performing a simple
act of kindness – as we also can do – she gave witness to
what matters ultimately in our lives and in our world. Instead
of being comfortable or safe from criticism, we too can follow
Jesus. As St. Thomas said, we can “go to Jerusalem and
die with him.” Lent reminds us of this and gives us the
disciplines of prayer, sacrifice, and charitable acts to do it.
.
Envy is the feeling of sadness when good things happen
to other people. Do I get that feeling? Do I get angry or
act out when others win? Do I rejoice when others fail?
Do I envy the talents of others? Does envy lead to dislike
of others or to saying bad things about others?
Lent gives us the opportunity for self-denial, withholding
some pleasure or convenience for a little time. This can
reduce our sense of entitlement or a false belief that we
need everything that we want. Something as simple as the
skipping a meal or snack or our Lenten Friday abstinence
from meat can be that kind of reminder. It is about much
more than the item that we sacrifice itself! We can try
being truly joyful about the successes of others and to be
sad when they fail. We can sincerely thank God for any
good that is done, no matter who does it.
Sixth Station: Veronica
Wipes the Face of Jesus
O Tender Jesus, who did
deign to print your sacred face
upon the cloth with which
Veronica wiped the sweat from
your brow, print in my soul
deep, I pray you, the lasting
memory of your bitter pains.
Wishing you
a Holy Lent! Your friends in our local
