Outreach and Missions
Calvary Baptist Church | 314 South Franklin Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030 | 336-786-4778 | calvarymountairy.org
Early in the morning on July 9, a team of thirteen from Calvary Baptist will begin their journey to
the village of Copper Bank in Belize. Unlike some other mission trips, however, in which the
participants arrive, serve, and depart with very little likelihood of further contact; this team will be
continuing and strengthening a relationship that started last year when our youth visited Copper
Bank and when our church voted to enter a 5-year partnership with the church there as part of
our ongoing effort to fulfill the Great Commission.
Our team does have some idea of what they’ll be doing. They’ll assist with Vacation Bible School
and participate in prayer ministries. They’ll work on construction projects and lead discipleship
training. But as much as anything else, they’ll be looking for ways to support and encourage the
work that God is doing through El Faro Encendido Church and their pastor, Pastor Cal. Just as
importantly, they’ll be looking for ways that Calvary can be encouraged by our brothers and sisters
in Belize. Because this partnership will continue! And in the years ahead, we look forward to
identifying even more ways that these two churches can mutually support one another in fulfilling
our Savior’s call.
Please be in prayer for our team during their journey. Its members include Allyson Burcham; Mike,
Renee and Jordan Francis; Josh Kiger; Alex Martin; Doug and Maggey Odell; Jim, Lilnette, Meagan
and Matt Phillips; and David Stone. Please pray, too, for El Faro Encendido Church – along with
their ministries and their pastor, Pastor Cal. But most of all, please pray that God will show each of
us individually and all of us together how we can become a part expanding His kingdom’s embrace
– right here in Mount Airy – and to the uttermost ends of the earth.

Heaven: Finding Our Hearts’ True Home
The Bible says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has ever conceived what God has
prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). But does that mean we can’t know anything
about the future that God has promised us? How could it, especially when other passages encourage
us to “set our minds on things above, and not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2)? So, what does it
mean to look forward to heaven? And how does our hope for heaven fit into the Great Story of the
Bible that runs from Genesis to Revelation? And perhaps most of all: How does our future in heaven
empower us to live as God’s people during our present on earth?
We might not be able to answer all our questions. But we can consider the Bible’s teaching about our
hearts’ true home. That’s why our pastor will be sharing a series of messages about heaven,
beginning on Sunday, July 23 and running through the end of August. Tentatively, we hope to cover
the following:
July 23: Why Does Heaven Matter?
July 30: Those Who Have Fallen Asleep
August 6: Anticipating Resurrection
August 13: Redemption’s Far Reach
August 20: The Other Place
August 27: Living in Light of Eternity
If you have specific questions, you’re invited to send them to the pastor ([email protected]),
and he will do what he can to address these issues as the series unfolds. Please make plans to
worship with us. And why not invite a friend to share the journey with us?

Ministry Outcome A message of thanks to those who gave blood
and volunteered to make Calvary’s blood drive a
success on May 28, 2017. A total of 28 pints of
blood was collected. When you consider that just
one pint of blood can save up to three lives, we
may have impacted 84 lives with this ministry.
