What an exciting yearto attend the Tennessee Conference United Methodist Womens Christian MissionEducation Event. This years Christian Mission Education Event will be held at Murfreesboro First United

Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on July 18-21, 2012.

The Social Issue study will be: Poverty. Our Christian faith invites each of us and our faith communitieto become agents of Gods compassion and healing in a wounded world. Poverty is a human rights issuwith grave impact on women and children. This mission study on poverty is designed to help participantrecognize and claim for themselves the connections between Scripture, church tradition, compassion forthe poor, social outreach, and social justice. The study leaders will be Sue C. Johnson and IngridMcIntyre.

The youth will be studying: Hope for Haiti. Hope for Haiti is a mission study for youth that includes ashort history of Haiti aswell as activities and resources for teens. The book is divided into four sessionsdesigned to connect youth with the life and interests of youth in Haiti, helping participants become betterneighbors in our global community. Pamela Pinkerton and Lila Beasley are the study leaders.

The Spiritual Growth study will be: Immigration and the Bible. This study shares thstory of the Bible as a narrative of immigrants and migration. Exploring the Biblical atheological understandings of immigration, immigrants and migration, this study seekto enable the participants to examine what it is to be a sojourner and to live into thebiblical mandate of hospitality for the stranger and aliens inour midst. The studyleaders will be Rev. Ken Edmondson and Rev. Jim Clark. Rev. Sean Cook will be thstudy leader for the evening class.

The Geographic study is a repeat from last year: Haiti, Challenges andHope. This study reflects on how the church can be in mission with thepeople of Haiti rather than in mission to them. It offers perspectives onhistory of the land and its people. The study also explores ways in which theUnited Methodist Church is already working with The Methodist Church inHaiti. It offers opportunities for true partnership in mission with the Haitianpeople in recovering and rebuilding the beautiful and beleaguered nation.The study leader will be Lois Azar.

LaSonia Scantling and Virginia Yeargins will guide the children in their study of TheGirl under the Bridge: Stories of Poverty and Hope for Children. This childrensstudy introduces children to the systemic issues of poverty and will help themdevelop caring hearts and justice-seeking spirits. The study encourages participantto remove barriers between the "haves" and the "have-nots" and consider whatchanges we can make to reduce poverty in the United States and around the world

Suites. The hotel is located approximately 5.7 miles from the church and is near I-24. Rooms are doubleccupancy. Please indicate on your registration form if you have special rooming needs.
