Our History lesson for the Month

June 13, 1966 - The U.S. Supreme Court

ruled (5-4) in the case of Miranda v.

Arizona that an accused person must be

apprised of certain rights before police

questioning including the right to remain

silent, the right to know that anything

said can be used against the individual in

court, and the right to have a defense

attorney present during interrogation.

American police officers now routinely

read prisoners their 'Miranda'

(constitutional) rights before questioning.

Welcome to the wonderful world of, confusion, indecision, unreliability and nonsense.

Now you’re all wondering what the heck is he talking about. Cars, Engines, Parts in general.

I recently did a wiring job on a 49 Chevrolet Fleetline. Converting from 6v to 12v, sounds

simple enough, right? Should be, and in a way it was. The owner wanted to retain all the

stock switches and the dash appearance. Converted it to an alternator from a generator.

Had to put in the new headlight switch as the original wouldn’t work correctly. Running

points so needed a ballast resistor and had to replace all the light bulbs as they were 6v.

Gunnar gave me some good advice about the conversion also, such as needing a voltage

reducer for the gauges, which I did know. But not to worry about the starter as it would

actually like 12v and would spin the motor over easier. Just don’t over crank it. This was a

different project, I’ve done many wiring jobs on cars and trucks, including my 56 and the 67.

With all of the wiring work I’ve done I’ve found that I like Ron Francis wiring the best. Am I

advertising, maybe. I just like what I like more than other kits I’ve used. Pretty straight

forward for the most part, depending on the owners wants and needs.

On to the next project. A 1954 Chevrolet 1500 Truck. Mary’s brother is replacing the

siding on our house (with help from us) and repairing any rot that is found. Also installing

new windows, lights and switches where we want them. We are buying the stuff for the

house, he is buying stuff for the truck. We are swapping labor. How ever much time he puts

on the house is how much time I’m putting on his truck plus a bunch more. LOL. I will be

replacing front suspension components with a mustang 2 power steering unit, coil over

shocks and disc brakes. Rear suspension will be a triangulated 4 bar setup with a 9” Ford

rear end and 3.55 posi unit, coil over shocks and disc brakes. Small block 350 with overdrive

trans, a relocated fuel tank and plenty of help from Mary. Oh and Mr. Duncan, I may call on

you for guidance too. Pretty much building his truck from the frame up. Gonna be fun and a

long build. (Mary says there is MORE work on the house coming too = more hours!!)

Thanks for reading but remember I can only write so much about my life and work. For you

members or sponsors, if you have a story you would like to share, send it to me and I’ll put

it in here. It doesn’t have to be about car stuff. It can be about your house, kids, spouse,

dog, cat or your friendly neighbors.

68 Chevrolet Camaro - A Little Love

I purchased my 68 Camaro almost 20 years ago and it was in good

condition. A running small block 350 with an automatic 350 transmission, good

black interior and black exterior with a slight hint of black pearl, also the 2nd most

popular color in the UK.

In the first couple years, I replaced the Quadrajet carburetor for an Edelbrock

carburetor, replaced the mufflers for dual flow masters with an X pipe and long

tube Hooker headers. Upgraded to KYB shocks and an Hotchkis front sway bar.

The Camaro is a great car and had no issues, I would drive it throughout the

Bay Area up to Sacramento. In 2014, I ran into Tom Morrow at Pep Boys and

talked about his 56 BelAir and my 68 Camaro. After talking with Tom and sharing

with him some of my thoughts of what I wanted to do with my 68 Camaro, Tom

said, “The Camaro just needs a little love.”

I talked with Tom about rebuilding my motor. We pulled it out and I rebuilt it

under his direction & help. I also had a few other things worked on such as a full

body paint job, full suspension, 12 bolt rear end and 5 speed. Recently we did a

complete rewire of the car, installed digital gauges, air conditioning, push button

starter system, electric windows, carburetor and a new radiator with electric

fans. Shortly after, I also installed a mini tub with new rims and tires.

It’s has been a fun process building my 68 Camaro, while also gaining

knowledge on old school cars, and developing life long friends along the way.

Thank you,

Gabriel

On May 15, 2021, we got to feel like life was a little more back to normal…

Tom and I, Curt & Steph Albrecht, and Bob & Dawn Wilkie headed over to Rohnert Park to

Buddy’s Picnic Palooza. Al Barrott and his friend Joanne also showed up later. We each brought

our own picnic and chairs. BBQs were available for those that wanted to cook. The kids had fun

in the playground. We had Kona Ice slushies (the kid in me needed one). It turned out to be a

pretty big car show. Over 150 cars (mostly hot rods) made an appearance. The weather was

perfect to sit in the park and relax with friends. (I can’t remember the last time I spent that many

hours doing “nothing”. It was amazing!!)

Buddy is a sponsor for this newsletter and is involved in a TON of different events. We have

attended a couple of his events and look forward to the next one. Always a good time with lots of

good people. Thank you Buddy for another fun day!!

Anniversary

Tom is running out of stories to share …

staying home for the past year due to COVID,

he doesn’t have anything new to write

about… so I told him I would write something

just to show everyone else “how easy it is to

put something in the newsletter”.

This is what I (we) have been doing during the

pandemic. We have been working on the

house making some pretty big changes (new

doors, new siding). I’ve been planning my

yard makeover (to be done after we finish the

house projects). I had forgotten how much I

enjoy sewing. I love doing things that help

others and making masks has been my way

of helping family, friends, co-workers, and co-

workers of my family stay safe during COVID.

I have made almost 700 face masks. Plus we

get to have fun / cute masks. I just made a

bunch of Star Wars and Disney masks for my

family (they are in Disney World right now). I

have made some clothes for myself and my

great nieces. Currently I am helping with

daycare for the little one in the picture.

Having an almost 6 year old in the house

every Friday has been a lot of fun and I sleep

pretty good on Friday nights. She is busy with

a memory that blows my mind. Both girls

were in a dance performance this weekend

and I got to go watch. Adorable!!!

I miss the normal LARGE family parties, we

have done a lot of birthday parades… hoping

to spend more time with ALL my family soon!

Stay safe and healthy!!! We hope to see

more of you soon. -Mary Morrow
