Our History lesson for the month

September 11, 2001 - The worst terrorist attack in U.S. history occurred as four large passenger jets were

hijacked then crashed, killing nearly 3,000 persons. Four separate teams of Mideast terrorists, operating from

inside the U.S., boarded the morning flights posing as passengers, then forcibly commandeered the aircraft.

Two fully-fueled jumbo jets, American Airlines Flight 11 carrying 92 people and United Airlines Flight 175

carrying 65 people, had departed Boston for Los Angeles. Both jets were diverted by the hijackers to New York

City where they were piloted into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The impact and subsequent fire

caused both 110-story towers to collapse, killing 2,752 persons including hundreds of rescue workers and

people employed in the towers. In addition, United Airlines Flight 93, which had departed Newark for San

Francisco, and American Airlines Flight 77, which had departed Dulles (Virginia) for Los Angeles, were

hijacked. Flight 77 with 64 people on board was diverted to Washington, D.C., then piloted into the Pentagon

building, killing everyone on board and 125 military personnel inside the building. Flight 93 with 44 people on

board was also diverted toward Washington but crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted

to overpower the terrorists on board.

VP message

I’ve been doing the newsletter for 5 years now. I enjoy setting it up and getting it out

to all of you. I’m not giving it up, but I am going to make a change.

This will be the last paper newsletter you receive this year. For the next 3 months if

you have a computer and access to email you will receive it via email. If you don’t have

access to email then you’ll be able to go online to the Boyz website and download it or

print it. The website is Boyzunderthehood.com in case you forgot. You don’t need a

password to download or print it. The newsletter is available to the public.

For those of you that do not have a computer or access to the internet I’ll mail it to you.

You will be responsible to let me know if you need it mailed. I don’t have that information

handy. Call me at 707-291-3361 or let me know at the next meeting.

For our sponsors that are not club members I will still mail it out to you. I don’t think

sending this to you through email will guarantee that you’ll receive it.

The reason for this is two fold, 1) It will save me a full day of printing, folding, labeling,

stamping and mailing. 2) It’ll save the club $200+/- per month. Not really worried about

the club funds. Just my time is getting more important these days.

This is a test to see how it works. Thanks for your support.

Tom

Notes from the V.P.

I’ve been working from home a bunch lately, and as you know it’s been hot.

Looking down at my dog on the living room floor stretched out I was thinking, so is this

“the dog days of summer”?

To my way of thinking there’s nothing wrong with an 82° day and a blue sky.

Get in the car and go for a drive... to be honest, Jennifer and I have not done much of

that this summer but it feels good just thinking about it.

Summer weather is still with us even if official summer is over.

I’m going to get the car out and run around this weekend, hope to see you out also.

Your V.P.

Kerry Scott

The BOYZ participated in the Vallejo Parade as part of the Waterfront Weekend kick off. We had 9

cars at the start. Mr. Taft was drafted by our own Laura Miller to drive one of Vallejo’s dignitaries, so of

course he accepted the challenge and bid us all ado. We appreciate him, Laura and Anji for driving

Vallejo’s dignitaries.

One little mishap during the parade, Jim Hildebrand got a little over heated and his car decided it

had had enough, so he stopped about 3/4 thru the parade. Thankfully Dan Cordeiro and some

spectators helped to get him off the parade route and into a parking lot. Thank you to all who helped

Jim, he was able to get the car home. It wouldn’t be a BOYZ event if we did it have some kind of

mishap right?

All in all it was a great turn out and I want to Thank everyone who came out to help the BOYZ kick

off the Waterfront Weekend Car Show. This is a GREAT Group of people that Steve and I are lucky to

be a part of.

As we drove past some of the crowd that was watching the parade, it was so nice to feel the

appreciation from them.

Steve actually smiling!!!! :)

Here we are. All in formation waiting to make the start, Except for——

MATER the MASCOT !!!!!

Once again he was the hit of the show!!!

We had an additional car join us on our route! He wants to be a BOYZ member when he grows up!!!

Tom making sure MATER is ready for the show!!!

Steve showing off the car and his cigar

But—— look closely

He was photo bombed by Tom Duncan’s

Stomach!!!!

Never a dull moment with these Boys🤪

I know it’s late but I am finally able to get this in the newsletter.

Hotrod Road Trip

The 66 Chevelle and the 56 Belair decided it was time for a little road trip.

So they got together and planned a 1500 mile ride up the coast of California and Oregon.

The plan was to go for a boat ride and then go east to a museum and check out an airplane.

Thursday morning 5 of us, Kerry Scott, Greg Conrad, Tom Morrow (that’s me)

and 2 friends of Kerry’s, Bruce and Ron climbed aboard the cars and with maps, GPS and

an itinerary (that’s a plan to stop, gas and eat, hmmmmmmm). We left about 10:30 and our

first stop was to be Redwood Valley, 111 miles up Hwy 101. Well with road construction and

being off and on the throttle the first stop was roughly 20 miles short. No big deal,

RIGHT! Next stop is Scotia, which is 123 miles from Redwood Valley. If you’ve ever been

up the Cal coast you’ll know there isn’t much going on town/city wise that way.

The Chevelle is running great, getting decent gas mileage, while the Belair is

getting…….well lets just say it’s better than a Sherman tank on mileage. So here we are

moving right along, playing on the highway having fun. I look at the gas gauge and it’s about

¾ tank (more like ½) as we pass Garberville. Should be plenty to make Scotia. Going up

hills on the gas then off the gas, highway speeds then slow down then highway

speeds………..you get the picture, should have got gas back there. Long story

short……..there is NO GAS between Garberville and Scotia (most of the road is down hill,

thank goodness). Yep you guessed it, ran out of gas. But as luck would have it, we made it

to Scotia, one block from a gas station and coasted in. Took 15.7 gallons of gas on a 16

gallon tank. WHEW!!!! As for the Chevelle, he laughed, dirty rotten guy.

The rest of the trip went without a hitch (we stopped every 100 miles or ½

tank). From Scotia we went thru Cresent City (112 miles) and saw other hotrods parked at

a motel (turns out there was a car show Saturday). From there we made it to Gold Beach,

Oregon (55 miles) that evening, Checked into the hotel, went and had dinner at the local

restaurant next to the boat dock, great pie and food. Done for the night, boat trip in the

morning. End of Part 1

This is an old road trip from 2012.

Some of you may remember,

most won’t.

Featured Car of the Month

On 10/13/15 we went for a drive in our 2005 Corvette to look at a 1940 Chevy.

Pictures on the internet were not the greatest. Two hours down 101 we found

Checkered Flag Hotrods. We looked around and saw the 40 Chevy. We liked the

way the car looked and we talked about a trade. My Vet for the 40. He liked the Vet

so we traded straight across. Driving home in commute traffic for 3 hours, looking

good with the top down and around 100 degrees out. Somewhere around San Jose

the brakes went out and I had to use the parking brake to get home. After about

1,000 miles things started happening, cam went flat, heads causing loss of

compression, worn out blower, oil pressure started dropping... Come to find out, the

motor was not as young as they said it was. Earlier this year, I had a new motor &

new torque converter installed. We love the car, won’t sell her for anything.

Future plans are to rewire the car, since it looks like it was done by a 5 year old with

no experience.

Car trivia:

How many green Plymouth Hemi

Barracuda convertibles were built in 1971?

Just a little reminder to all, if you send in a story for the newsletter you’ll receive a

ticket for the next 50\50 drawing. If you’re concerned about spelling, punctuation

don’t be. Nobody is perfect, Mary and I will correct any mistakes that may be made.

Mary corrects my stuff also, so no worries. (Mary misses some too. ☺)

Jelly Belly put on a little show and cruise on Sunday the 25th. Several Boyz showed

for the 2-3 hr get together, with about 200 other cars that showed for the fun. I didn’t

make the cruise if there was one. But it was nice. -Tom M.
