The film is primarily aimed at families, justified by the advertisement for the film, it is mother orientated, focused on the nurturing side of the film. It appeals to males due to the sporting aspect, however the advertisement focuses on the nurturing of the family to also attract female, and family audiences. The Blind side also shows how the nurturing of Leanne and the rest of the Tuohy family, and how it is juxtaposed with Michael Oher and his football. In the pictures above, it can be seen that Leanne is nurturing Michael whilst also coaching him; showing how his sports comes hand-in-hand with his progression as a person. Also, it isnt just Leanne that helps Michael on and off the field. SJ also encourages Michael to perform on the field, showing how Michaels new family help him in all areas of life, demonstrating further how The Blind Side shows the nurturing side of the film comes hand-in-hand with Michaels sports.

EmpathyThe Blindside provokes empathy towards Michael, through a variety of techniques. Even in the costume, Michael wears the same oversized clothes until he is accepted in the Tuohy family, this not only implies he lived in poverty, but as his clothes are too big for him it makes Michael appear more immature and childlike provoking sympathy towards him and creating hope that he is cared for in his new family. His clothes also make him appear bigger than he is, and mixed with his dislike of being called ‘Big Mike’ the audience’s empathy is amplified as he is subjected to negative stereotypes, (because of his size and colour) by his teachers and peers.
