HAIR LOSSAlopecia, a common cause of hair loss, is acondition that is not painful nor does it interfere withregular daily activities. Nevertheless it is anemotionally challenging condition, particularly whenhair loss affects the entire scalp.Fortunately, advances in medical research mean that today, menand women need not suffer the results of hair loss.

PRP treatment is now a wide spread and wellestablished procedure in all cases of alopecia.Published studies are providing increasinglystronger evidence of the beneficial effect of PRPtreatment on hair re-growth.

WHAT IS PRP?PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is blood plasmacontaining a high concentration of platelets.Although platelets are best known for their part inthe blood clotting process, these cells are alsoconsidered a biochemical storehouse of growthfactors that participate in recovery and healing oftissues by enhancing physiologic processes. Anti-apoptotic effects of activated PRP have beensuggested as one of the major contributing factorsstimulating hair growth as it prolongs the survival ofdermal papilla cells during the hair cycle. Follicularstem cell differentiation is induced, as well asprolonging the phase of the hair growth cycle.

PRP PREPARATIONPRP hair growth treatment is a quick outpatientprocedure that takes about 20 min. Cellenis® PRPprocess begins by taking a blood sample in an anti-coagulated tube with separation gel. The tube isthen centrifuged for 10 minutes to separate the redblood cells and granulocytes from plasma withplatelets. Finally, Cellenis® PRP concentrate is injected intoareas of the scalp that show hair thinning. Onceinjected in the dermal layer, platelet activation willoccur, resulting in granule stimulation and growthfactor release at the level of the follicles.

THE ADVANTAGES OFCELLENIS® PRP

SHORT PREPARATION AND HANDLING:

● 10 minutes centrifugation.● Entire process takes ~15 minutes.● Gel separation technique along with filtration

process enables the efficient preparation of purePRP without catabolic erythrocytes andminimum level of catabolic granulocytes. Desiredanabolic cells (mononuclear cells) are retainedalong with a controlled concentration of plateletswith their growth factors. Stem cells fromperipheral blood are concentrated.

● Easy to use - only 3 core components and 5simple steps.

● No capital equipment is required - only a simplelow cost fix angle centrifuge is needed.

● The flexibility of Cellenis® PRP system enablesusers to obtain higher or lower concentration bysimply adjusting the amount of clear plasmaremoved from the tube.

● Closed system ensures optimal sterility andavoidance of infection.

● Two sizes of PRP tubes are available: 11ml and22ml whole blood.

● CE (class IIB) and FDA (510k)

FOLLOW-UP AFTER TREATMENTUsually, there is no downtime or recovery period aftera PRP procedure. Patients can continue their normallife routine immediately after undergoing thetreatment.

Following a PRP treatment the patient mayexperience minimal discomfort at the treated site.

It is important to note that anti-inflammatory painmedication (NSAids) are not allowed before andafter the treatment.

HOW TO EVALUATE THEIMPROVEMENT OF PRP HAIRGROWTH TREATMENTBefore PRP treatment, the area of concern shouldbe microscopically evaluated, photographed andmeasured. Although results vary, improvement inhair growth should be measureable within 90 days, with hair growth continuing to improve over sixmonths.

Every patient will respond differently, so routinefollow-up is helpful in determining the success of thetreatment and if PRP treatment should be repeated.

COMBINING PRP WITH OTHERHAIR RE-GROWTH THERAPIES

A multi-therapy approach may be needed dependingon the severity of the patient's hair loss. PRP may beused as an adjunct to approved hair re-growthmedications and other alternative therapies such aslow level laser therapy and hair transplantation.

STUDIESMost studies examined safety, efficacy andfeasibility of PRP injections in treating alopecia.

● Cellenis® PRP study (conducted under theTropocells® PRP family) - 70 patients (31males and 39 females) were recruited.

Protocol: PPP (13±1 ml) was withdrawn fromthe tube, remaining (5±1 ml) plasma where85%±5% of the platelets were present, creat-ed the PRP. Local anesthesia was per-formed and a 1.5mm microneedling rollerwas applied to the scalp. PRP was theninjected. Patients underwent 2 sessions 3months apart.

At 12 months post treatment, there was a44% improvement in hair growth. G. Amgar, P.Bouhanna

● PRP injection is a simple, cost effective andfeasible treatment option for androgenic alo-pecia, with high overall patient satisfaction.Khatu et al; Singhal P. et al

● The generic term "platelet-rich plasma" doesnot allow for a clear distinction between theavailable PRP systems, because it does nottake into account some key specificationssuch as platelet concentration potential, presence or absence of cells such as granu-locytes. Not all platelet concentrates arecreated equal... the many different systemsthat are available today in an ever-expandingmarket often lead to different types of bloodaggregates, with different biology and poten-tial uses Schiavone G et al.

● PRP therapy stimulates hair growth throughthe promotion of vascularization andangiogenesis, as well as encourages hairfollicles to enter and extend the duration ofthe anagen phase of the growth cycle. GuptaAK, Carviel J.
