Malose Jackson Mokgosana was arrestedon Tuesday, 5 May on two charges ofhousebreaking and rape. Mokgosana wasremanded to police custody when heappeared before the ModimolleMagistrate’s Court on Thursday, 7 May.His case was postponed for furtherinvestigation.A woman who was recently raped,

thought I had a boyfriend with me,something she had never seen before.After raping me he asked me where I hadhidden my purse, and why,” she said. “Iasked him how he knew that I’d hidden it,and he said that this was not his first timebreaking into my house. He said that hewould steal my phones and cash everytime he succeeded. I asked him to staythe night so that I could see his face in themorning and be able to identify him to thepolice. I felt I could not handle the pain ofhaving to wait for the police to investigate,”she said. “He told me his name wasJohannes and said that he was looking fora wife. I even managed to talk him intobelieving that I would move in with him,and he said that he would give me moneyto help move my possessions. He saidthat he had the money as he hadsucceeded in several houses that night.”When her rapist left through the same

window he’d used to come in, the womanphoned the EFF Limpopo Provincialleader Mapula Ledwaba, who

allegedly by Mokgosana, spoke to TheBEAT about her experiences. She wasasleep in her RDP house in Extension 10on Saturday, 7 March, when she heardsomeone climbing onto her bed.She said that the man choked and raped

her, threatening to kill her if she screamed.He put a pillow over her face.“I cooperated with him for the sake of me

and my children. My children were asleepin the other room. Unfortunately, my 14-year old daughter saw the incident and

accompanied me to the police station andthe hospital to seek help.She said that Ledwaba helped and

supported her during that difficult time, asher mother was not strong enough tohandle the situation. The victim believesthat her attacker could have raped othersas he said he had been breaking intoseveral houses in the area.“He told me that there were three of

them, and I was scared that the otherscould be doing the same thing to mychildren. My elder daughter said that she’dseen me in bed with the man and thoughthe was my boyfriend. She was confusedbecause I do not usually do such things intheir presence,” she said. “He continued towalk free for over a month. It hurt, knowingthat he could be doing the same to otherwomen.”Modimolle police spokesperson Warrant

Bela-Bela police have managed to arrestone of two alleged hijackers.Colonel Abel Phetla said that the

incident took place on Wednesday, 6May, at the Caltex garage near theSettlers intersection on the R516.Phetla said that the two men were at

the petrol station when one of themallegedly forced the driver of a deliveryvan, which was transporting cigarettes,to drive away with them.He also explained that the second

suspect managed to procure a firearmbelonging to a cash-in-transit securityguard before fleeing the scene.

Members of the Economic FreedomFighters (EFF) in Thabazimbi havedeclared their support for members oftheir local community who have beenarrested for the latest spate ofxenophobic violence in the town.EFF members spoke to The BEAT on

Thursday, 7 May, saying that theybelieved that criminal elements werebehind the allegations and the arrests.They said that people who should bearrested are still walking free, but they stillbelieve that justice will take its course.EFF Sub-Regional Convener

Commissar Kopo Motshegwa said thatthey do condemn the attacks, and believethat justice should be done for everyone,regardless of their status. He said thatthey do not hold grudges on anyone,including the beleaguered foreigners, andare working hard with variousstakeholders to find solutions on theissue and maintain peace in the area.”We vouch for solidarity and strongly

believe that there is a pure miscarriage ofjustice on these innocent members of ourcommunity. The trial against alleged axe attackerTrymore Munetsi has continued atthe Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court,with the accused denying anyinvolvement in the incident. Munetsihas been accused of being one offive men who attacked RachelGroenewaldt and Manie de Beer withan axe at their home in Leeupoortlast year.During his cross-examination on

Monday, 4 May, the state questionedMunetsi on his whereabouts on theday of the attack. At first Munetsistated that he was waiting outside ofthe couple’s home during the attack,but he later denied ever beinginvolved.Constable Klaas Ledwaba of the

Rooiberg Police testified that he hadtaken Munetsi to the scene of thecrime a few days after beingapprehended where he pointed outhow the attack was planned and tookplace.Munetsi denied this and said that he

only worked at the residential homeand had not been involved in theattack.The state then asked Munetsi what

he was doing in the area to which hereplied that he was visiting his brotherwho could not be named.Munetsi said that he was

and the alleged hijackers’ location, andthe man was arrested shortly afterward.43-year old Thikhathali Gamela was

arrested for allegedly being involved withthe hijacking. He was charged withassault and robbery and appeared at theBela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 8May. The matter was postponed toThursday, 14 May for furtherinvestigation.Gamela remains in custody at the Bela-

Bela police station.

Chikwara has immigrated toZimbabwe and requested that the casebe postponed to Wednesday 27 May.The state agreed that it will grant the

postponement provided that the trialcontinues regardless of whetherChikwara appears or not.Munetsi has been linked to other

crimes in Leeupoort including abreak-in at the Matlapeng gamereserve.

Working on Fire (WoF) Limpopoembarked on a mission to assist theWaterberg District to gear up and assistlocal schools in getting ready for the2015 fire season. BB Matlaila PrimarySchool in Mookgophong was among theschools selected by the WoF team totake part in the project. The team startedtheir campaign at the school with a fuelload reduction around the school yard onWednesday, 6 May, during which theycleared the school ground ofunnecessary flammable plants. This wasdone in order to reduce the tall grasswhich posed a threat to the schoolpremises.The General Manager for WoF in

park, Sebelebele said that there is still adecision to be made whether or not toerect another fence.“There are already palisade fences

around some of the parks, at thetownship and Spa Park, and there willalso be a new fence. First, however, thematter will need to be discussed with theDepartment of Nature Conservation asnot all parks will be fenced,” he said.The upgrades are due to be completed

by July.

needed in the area due to a high numberof fires that occurred previously. We sawit as beneficial to equip the stakeholderswith firefighting skills to enable them to bethe first crew on the line,” said Maepa.

the books we currently have. The old andoutdated ones we will send back to thedepartment in Polokwane and the newerones will then be loaded on the system,”he said.Although he did not want to give a

precise date, Sebelebele said that hehopes that the library will be reinstated inthe next financial year.“I am not certain when the library will be

reinstated but we are hoping thateverything will be finished by the nextfinancial year in July.”

As a result, wehereby declare a vote of noconfidence in it. We would alsobring your attention to the followingpoints.* It is a well-known fact that the

unemployment figure is rising bythe day because this municipalityis not doing proper planning due toa lack of capacity, foresight andimagination in their PlanningDepartment.* It is our opinion that a Municipal

Manager, their department heads,and councillors, should be pillars ofstrength, beacons of light, andleaders of note to the communitiesthey serve. * This does not appearto be the case currently, and thishas resulted in a lack of servicedelivery, long queues at theMunicipality, huge budget overruns,low morale, and unhelpful andunfriendly staff at the Municipality.* There has been many allegations

made about the municipalemployees as well as somecouncillors. Accusations ofnepotism have been made, and thesituation has become so seriousthat tenders are being inflated tomake it worthwhile for everyonewho gets a cut, across the board.This has almost bankrupted this

municipality.* We are also concerned about

the high numbers of illegalforeigners residing and operatingtheir shops inside our townshipwithout any action being takenagainst them. They are alsoincreasing every day and takingmany of the job opportunities awaywhich should be left for residentswho grew up here.* Drug use and crime is also

escalating to alarming levels tosuch an extent that we don’t evenfeel safe even in our very ownneighbourhoods. This can beblamed on the above as well as thefact that there is no meaningful jobcreation taking place in our areadue to the inability of thisMunicipality to inspire confidenceinto the hearts of residents andtourists / investors alike visiting ourtown.* The lack of basic services to

many households and lack of

service / maintenance thereof, whichincludes proper roads and lightsinfrastructure, is also of great concern.For how long do we still need to livelike dogs?* The lack of housing and lack of land

for housing are causes for concern forthe community and that inspires otherpolitical organisations like the EFF totake land illegally. This needs to beaddressed urgently as it is fuellinggreat discontent in the community. Theinformal settlements also need to beeradicated and replaced with properhousing.* The expensive rates and taxes of

Bela-Bela is making life incrediblydifficult for the residents andbusinesses alike. We believe this isdriving away investors also. Our ratesand taxes are more expensive thanneighbouring towns and in someinstances even higher than majormetropolitan cities. This is ridiculousand needs to be rectified as residentsand businesses are falling further andfurther behind because of this and thedifficult economic climate we currentlyface.* The lack of jobs in our area is also

of grave concern and is a result of allthe above mentioned points and underinvestment in basic infrastructure andhousing. Poverty and desperation isincreasing. Salaries have also not beenkeeping up with inflationary figures andare stagnating. Companies are notincreasing their staff but instead aretrying to cut costs by retrenchingworkers.* The above mentioned has brought us

almost to the point where we see noother way as to demand that thisMunicipality be placed underadministration so that new leaders /representatives / councillors can beelected which will serve the interest ofthe public and not just their own. Butwe have decided to give theMunicipality once last chance until weembark on such drastic measures.It is furthermore the opinion of the

Concerned Community of Bela-Belathat these concerns as listed above areexperienced and supported by themajority of the residents of the townshipand that the only reason why it hasn’tbeen properly addressed is due to thefact they haven’t been able to organisethemselves properly due to a lack ofstrategy and communication. TheConcerned Community of Bela-Bela willhowever address these shortcomings toensure that real progress is experiencedon the ground where it matters bytaking hands with everybody whichshares the same concerns — even if itmeans that we need to establish ourown political party to run in the 2016local government elections — which wehope will not be necessary.The time has arrived for this

Municipality to live up to its ideals andresponsibilities to the people or thepeople will take the control back intotheir own hands.

Wilhelmina Mokau as Second Princess,Martha Mahloma as First Princess,Lerato Matlala as Miss Confidence andElizabeth Mosima, Pageant Ambassador.The winners expressed their excitement

at the honours they have achieved,saying that they never thought they wouldcome this far.“Nobody believed me when I told people

that I was entering the competition,”Lebodi said. “They said that I don’t havewhat it takes to be crowned the queen.”“I sure silenced them,” she added. “The

things I heard were hurtful, but I did notlet that deter me. I believed in the personI saw when I looked in the mirror and toldher that she was confident and goodenough for any position in thecompetition. That faith helped me make itin the end.”The organizers said that the event was

programs to fund their event.“Organizing this event gave us sleepless

nights,” said Shovhote. “We knew that thefirst-ever Miss Vaalwater pageant wouldtake place — with or without resources.We started working on the pageant andgot the finalists and set a date, but we stilldid not have any money. We advertised onblack and white posters and social media,and we failed on many things but that didnot break our spirit. This trying time hasreally strengthened our faith.”Makhubela said that a lot has happened

behind the scenes, but they are grateful forall the hard times, as they have beenmoved to work hard. The event did takeplace, with people from the communitiesof Vaalwater, Alma, Modimolle, Bela-Belaand Mookgophong in attendance.“It was an awesome event and the most

touching part was seeing how communityleaders and family members supportedtheir daughters wholeheartedly. It was alearning curve for us as well, andwitnessing those moment was worth allthe difficulties we encountered and I woulddefinitely do it again,” said Makhubela.
