Single undergraduate degree offer by College of Business and Economics

Become an expert in statistics – the most important single skill useful in virtually

every field of study, e.g. biology, economics, actuarial studies, physics, IT, etc.

Admission: ATAR 86, QLD Band 8, International Baccalaureate 31

Consists of 3 years full time study = 144 units = 24 courses (8 + 8 + 8)

8 electives (any ANU courses), max. of 10 1000-level (1st year) courses

Specific requirements for the BSTAT

You must do one of:

STAT1003 Statistical Techniques (Offered in S1 in 2017) STAT1008 Quantitative Research Methods (S1 and S2)

You must do one of:

COMP1040 The Craft of Computing (S2) COMP1100 Programming as Problem Solving (S1 & S2)

You must do two of the following courses:

MATH1013 Mathematics and Applications 1 (S1 & S2) MATH1014 Mathematics and Applications 2 (S1 & S2) MATH1115 Advanced Mathematics and Applications 1 (S1) MATH1116 Advanced Mathematics and Applications 2 (S2)

Typically a student will do the first two of these courses or the last two.

Another option would be to do MATH1115 (first) and then MATH1014.

You must do all three of:

STAT2001 Introductory Mathematical Statistics (S1 & S2) STAT2005 Introduction to Stochastic Processes (S2) STAT2008 Regression Modelling (S1)

You must do one of:

MATH2301 Games, Graphs and Machines (S2) MATH3511 Scientific Computing (S1)

You must also complete one of 4 majors, each made up of 8 courses:

1. Applied Statistics (APST)

2. Probability and Stochastic Processes (PSTO)

3. Statistical Data Analysis (STDA)

4. Theoretical Statistics (THST)

You must do all four of:

You must do one of:

You must do one course from the subject area EMET Econometrics

You must do two other courses from the subject area STAT Statistics

Once you have met the degree requirements above, you may have enough

electives to complete an additional major, minor or specialisation.

The CBE offers the following minor:

To obtain this minor you will have to do all four of:

ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1

Prior to 2017, a BSTAT student had to do one of 7 specialisations:

1. Business Statistics

2. Econometrics

3. Financial Statistics

4. Statistical Methodology

5. Applied Probability:

6. Psychological Research Methods

7. Sociological Research Methods

These specialisations are no longer available or relevant

(just in case you happen to read about them somewhere)

Here you can first select one of the four majors and then select either

"Commencing semester 1" or "Commencing semester 2"

For example, for the BSTAT with the STDA major commencing in

semester 2, the 6 semesters stretching over 4 years may be as follows:

Note: This plan has as exception to the rule on page 3 whereby a student

must do two of MATH1013, MATH1014, MATH1115 and MATH1116.

In this case the plan includes doing MATH1113 and MATH1116 instead,

since MATH1115 is not offered in second semester, at least not in 2017.

Bachelor of Statistics as part of a flexible double degree

You can combine the BSTAT with another single degree

You must meet the entry requirements of each degree

You save time by completing both degrees in 4 years rather than 6

But you have fewer options and electives

Many single degrees can be combined with the BSTAT
