St. Barbara Preschool Celebrates

Dr. Seuss’ BirthdayThe celebration of Dr. Seuss’ March 2nd birthday is

a yearly event at St. Barbara Preschool and one that isa favorite of the children. This year, the childrenenjoyed One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, TheFoot Book, Fox in Sock, The Cat in the Hat, and GreenEggs and Ham. The children did a variety of activitiesto celebrate each book.

Front row: Left to right: Zosia, Autumn, Chloe,Malina and Ava. Middle row: Theo, Karina,Edward, Mazie and Lucas. Back row: Malcolm,Samantha, Sharon and Brendan.

The children made fish bowls using colored gold-fish crackers to go along with one of the stories. Thechildren also made their own Cat in the Hat hats towear on the Friday before his birthday. The little learn-ers worked on their math skills by sorting, countingand graphing the colored goldfish and goldfish bowlpatterns that looked like the ones in the story.

The Dr. Seuss chefs made edible treats! With thekindergarten class, the preschoolers made fruit kabobsusing banana and fruit slices. Before eating them, theyplaced the fruit in the same pattern as the hat in Cat inthe Hat. They also made marshmallow kabobs usingfour big marshmallows and wrapping two of them in ared fruit roll-up to resemble the famous hat. The cele-bration continued on Monday when the children madetheir very own green eggs and ham. They enjoyedhelping to cook the eggs and of course, eating them! Many of the children wanted to write down the recipeso they could remember how to make them at home.

Fourth Grade Recreatesthe Stations of the Cross

Pictured Top Row: Mary Kate, Anna, Abby, Ben,Jazmyn, Sean, Connor, Ms. Schrode. Bottom Row:Molly, Troy, Fiona, Emily, Maddy, Katie, Sara andBrianna

Throughout the season of Lent, the students at SaintGabriel Catholic School attend Mass weekly to praythe Stations of the Cross.

In celebration of Lent this year, the fourth gradersrecreated these 14 stations. Each student was assigneda station and used their creative skills to make modelsof them using things from home.

The kids got very inventive using items such asBarbies, Legos, action figures and even loom brace-lets. The fourth graders then used a small index card todescribe their assigned station in their own words.

The faculty and students were amazed at how cre-ative they got with this project. Even students in theprimary grades are now becoming more interested inthe meaning behind the stations because of their mod-els. Great job fourth graders!

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious

Virgin Mary, that never was it

known that anyone who fled to

thy protection, implored thy help,

or sought thine intercession was

left unaided. Inspired by this

confidence, I fly unto thee, O

Virgin of virgins, my mother; to

thee do I come, before thee I

stand, sinful and sorrowful. O

Mother of the Word Incarnate,

despise not my petitions, but in

thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.ARV
