PLANNING A COCKTAIL PARTY
The key to a successful party is to have as much fun as your guests.
MENU: Traditional cocktail party fare is appetizers – small savoury finger foods that can be
eaten in one or two bites. Combinations of hot and cold are recommended with a
variety of proteins (beef, duck, chicken), seafood (shrimp, crab, smoked salmon). Be
sure to include some vegetarian and gluten friendly options. It is advisable to ask
regarding allergies or food restrictions on your invitation as it allows you to make special
food arrangements if necessary.
FOOD QUANTITIES: If your party is replacing a meal, calculate 10 to 12 pieces per guest. If your party takes
place outside of meal time 5 to 8 pieces per person should be fine. Also keep in mind
that young men will eat more than woman and seniors.
BAR: Cocktails should be ready when your guests walk in the door as it gives people
something to do and helps get them mingling. As a rule a guest will drink two drinks the
first hour and one drink each hour thereafter. There are 22 mixed drinks in a 750 ml
bottle of alcohol. A bottle of 750 ml bottle of wine will yield 5 glasses and because
champagne only requires a third of a glass pour – one bottle of bubbly will serve 10
guests.
It is the responsibility of the host to ensure that their guests do not attempt to drive if
they are impaired. A smart serve bartender is a wonderful asset to help monitor alcohol
consumption. PAL (alcohol Liability Insurance), can be purchased from your insurance
agent or online – it helps protect the homeowner should a guest have an accident.
Be sure to have lots of non-alcoholic beverage choices on hand. Infused waters made
with fresh fruits, cinnamon sticks not only look great but are very refreshing. Sparkling
water, tea and coffee should always be included.
HIRING A CATERER To truly enjoy your party hire a caterer. They will help you with the menu selection,
staffing, rentals and planning. The holiday season is extremely busy in the catering
world, to avoid disappointment it is advisable to select the date for your party and hire
your caterer as early as possible. Your caterer will usually do a site visit ahead of time to
establish flow and determine what is required.
Owning a catering company – the greatest compliment is when the hostess turns to you
at the end of the night and says, “I had such a great time I forgot I was in my own
home”!!!!

Costing is based on per person pricing
Smaller orders can be placed by the dozen - there is a 2 dozen minimum
requirement
Appetizers do vary in cost depending on the ingredients, the season and time
required to prepare

8. A signed contract will be required to reserve date and a deposit will need

determine the final set-up
10. You will be contacted five days prior to the event to confirm the final
