INSURANCE (‘ARAYA’) SCHEME

A. SERVICES AT THE PRIMARYHEALTH CARE LEVEL
I. Management of common diseases and injuries.
1. Management of malaria- Laboratory diagnosis of malaria using either microscopy
or Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs)- Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapy for treatment of
uncomplicated malaria for pregnant women, under-fiveand the general population.
2. Management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and urinary tract infections (including laboratory diagnosis)
3. Community-Based DOTS for tuberculosis
4. Treatment of common and minor ailments for the general population
- Respiratory Tract Infection
- Typhoid Fever
- Gastroenteritis
- Deworming
- Skin Infection/Infestation
- Minor Musculoskeletal Disorders
- Minor surgical procedures: *incision and drainage, *minor burns, *simple abrasions, *minor lacerations, *management of simple fractures
- Common Non-Communicable Diseasesincluding hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
- Conjunctivitis
II. Child health services
1. Immunization against vaccine preventable diseases
- BCG (at birth)
- Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) (4doses)
- Pentavalent vaccines (3 doses)
- Hepatitis B Vaccine (HBV) (3 doses)
- Measles Vaccine (9months)
- Yellow fever vaccine (YF) (9Months)
- CSM vaccine (for selective and targeted use)
2. Management of childhood illneses
- Deworming
- Management of pneumonia, diarrhea and
malaria
- Diarrheal diseases-ORS, zinc supplementation,
etc
- Vitamin A- treatment of measles
- Provision of insecticide treated nets (ITNs) for
children under five (5) years of age
3. Child health prevention services
- Growth monitoring for under fives
- Vitamin A supplementation for under-fives
- Child nutrition services:
*iron and micronutrient supplementation
4. Maternal and newborn health including family planning
- Antenatal care:
*At least four visits to the health facility
*Routine drugs to cover duration of pregnancy
*Routine urine and blood tests
*Pelvic and obstetrics scan (at least twice)
*Tetanus toxoid (TT) for women of reproductive age
*Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia in
pregnancy
*Intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) of malaria in
pregnancy
*Detection of high risk pregnancy and referral services for
those with potential for complications including feedback.
*Detection and management of syphilis in pregnancy
*Provision of insecticide treated nets (ITNs)
- Skilled attendance at birth:*Vaginal delivery by skilled attendants*Repair of birth injuries*Mama kits*Delivery kit*Basic emergency obstetrics*Manual vacuum extraction (MVA) and other
instrumental deliveries*Management of post-partum haemorrhage*Antibiotics for preterm/preterm-labour rupture of
membrane (P/PROM)*Detection and management of (pre) eclampsia

5. Neonatal care (cord care, eye care, management of simple neonatal infection)
6. Postnatal services including male circumcision
7. Family planning services- Intrauterine contraceptive device- Injectables- Male and female condom- Pills- IUCD- Implants - Counseling
8. Control of locally endemic and neglected disease
- Diagnosis and treatment of locally endemic
disease:
*Schistosomiases
*Onchocerciasis
*Elephantiasis
9. Prevention and health education
- Health education for general population
*Prevention of endemic diseases
*Water and sanitation
*HIV/AIDS counseling
*Promotion of essential nutrients for children
and pregnant women
*Promotion of personal, domestic and
environmental hygiene
- Other facility-based preventive services
*Provision of condoms for HIV prevention
*Provision of insecticide treated nets (ITNs) for
the general population
B. SERVICES AT SECONDARYHEALTH CARE LEVEL
I. Basic comprehensive emergency obstetrics
1. Manual vacuum extraction (MVA) and other
instrumental deliveries
2. Management of postpartum heamorrhage
3. Antibiotics for preterm/pre-labour rupture of
membrane (P/PROM)
4. Detection and management of (pre) eclampsia
(Mg Sulphate)
5. Blood transfusion services: screening etc
6. Extraction of retained placenta
7. Eclampsia
8. Caesarian section
9. Post –operative care
10. Salpingectomy for ectopic gestation
11. Management of intra uterine fetal death
12. Antenatal steroids for preterm labour
13. Management of neonatal infections
14. Management of puerperal sepsis
15. Other surgical complication in pregnancy
- Surgeries
- Hernia repair
II. Management of complicated infections
1. Malaria, typhoid, pneumonia etc
2. Tuberculosis
3. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
4. HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections
III. Management of other conditions
1. PEM (protein energy malnutrition)
2. Non-Communicable Diseases including
- Non complicated Hypertension
- Non complicated Diabetes mellitus
