The story about application reskins is an interesting one. For the sake of the story, we'll refer to our main character as Peter. Now, Peter is very much interested in building his own app development business. But the thing is, he doesn't have the funds, which are an upward of $5000 to kick start the venture. This puts him in a rut, because hiring a developer, designer, marketer etc. is no cheap business. Plus, he didn't have an idea that had the clarity to guarantee success.

Peter kept looking for ways to get around the problem. Because he really wanted his dream to come true. That's when he came across the term app flipping or commonly known as app reskin.

This gave him a newfound vigor, as he could now finally think of having an app developed in his name. He then looks around at the various available online about how to reskin an app. He quickly found out that there were websites from where he could buy templates, code segments or even entire apps.

These could then be used over and over or a few times, depending it's license. This was really exciting news for Peter, as now he could purchase the source code for a skeleton app and then reskin it several times over adding something new in each version.

Peter then found a skilled developer and designer by outsourcing the work and in the process, saving up a lot of money. Thus, finally, he was ready for the world. He first made sure that the apps were bug free and optimized for the niche he was targeting. He

also made sure that they had been optimized for the app store as well, so that people would actually find his apps easily and eventually download it.

It was made to download for free. So, how did he make any money, you'd ask? Well, his strategy was rather clever. He had focused on in-app purchases and ads in his app so that he knew a lot of people would download the application reskin s , thereby increasing his downloads multi fold as compared to an app that people had to pay to get, for instance.

Peter knew that the app store rules would dictate how many apps would be uploaded for the general public to download. And that he had to make sure that not all of them would be sent for approval at once, lest Apple think that he was trying to spam the store. So, he kept a little bit of time gap in-between downloads.

He finally had all the downloads up and available at the app store and had set up his app tracking mechanism at place so he could analyze users behavior with the apps. Next, it was the time to sit back and wait for the money to come in.

Peter's story is a good example of someone new to the mobile app market and finding their way through the app reskin business. Remember that it's very important to be agile and analyze the market for changes and new trends.
