Why 5Mbps?
Lowest end of current service is 1.5Mbps The amount of data on the Internet
doubles roughly every year Consumers are using more bandwidth.
• Higher bandwidth applications (Streaming video)
• More devices Infrastructure builds take lead time

PROBABLE FOCUSProvide at least 5 Mbps service to 90 percent of Northern Ontario dwellings within a dissemination block (DB).
HIGH PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service available to less than 50 percent of their dwellings ;
MEDIUM PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service to 50 percent - 89 percent of their dwellings are considered medium priority; and
LOW PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service to over 90 percent of their dwellings would be lower priority.

www.mcnet.ca Building technology capacity in our region
Proposed Resolution
Whereas CRTC has indicated that all Canadians should have access to the Internet at a speed of not less than 5Mbps by the end of 2015, and;
Whereas areas in Northern Ontario including the Township of Muskoka Lakes have been identified as having internet speeds of less than 5Mbps and noted as areas for service improvement, and;
Whereas, Muskoka Community Network is working on behalf of stakeholders in this area to improve service levels;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Township of Muskoka Lakes endorse Muskoka Community Network’s efforts to improve internet service speeds to 5Mbps within the Township.
