By the end of 2015, the CRTC expects all Canadians to have access to broadband speeds of at least 5 megabits per second (Mbps) for downloads and 1 Mbps for uploads.

Broadband Development

PROBABLE FOCUSProvide at least 5 Mbps service to 90 percent of Northern Ontario dwellings within a dissemination block (DB).

HIGH PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service available to less than 50 percent of their dwellings ;

MEDIUM PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service to 50 percent - 89 percent of their dwellings are considered medium priority; and

LOW PRIORITY - DBs that have 5 Mbps+ service to over 90 percent of their dwellings would be lower priority.

Proposed Resolution

Whereas CRTC has indicated that all Canadians should have access to the Internet at a speed of not less than 5Mbps by the end of 2015, and;

Whereas areas in Northern Ontario including the Township of Muskoka Lakes have been identified as having internet speeds of less than 5Mbps and noted as areas for service improvement, and;

Whereas, Muskoka Community Network is working on behalf of stakeholders in this area to improve service levels;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Township of Muskoka Lakes endorse Muskoka Community Network’s efforts to improve internet service speeds to 5Mbps within the Township.
