V F P June 12, 1253 COUNTY METING The regular meeting of the County Council was held in the Council Chambers on Friday, June 12, 1953, at 2:00 P.M., Chairman Crandall presiding and the following Councillors present: H. J. Boman, I. E. Davies, P. M. Baker, Henry Nagel, J. Donnelly, and P. Fraser. Minutes of meeting of May 15, 1953, were approved on a motion by Councillor Baker. Carried. Councillor Nagel submitted the following report for the Agricultural Service Board: Meeting held June 1st, 1953, all members present. The following tentative program was agreed upon for 1953: (1) Seeding to control weeds. (2) Spraying demonstrations. (3) Brush control by use of chemicals. (H) Soil sterilant. (5) Soil conservation. (6) Seeding of road ditches. (7) Publicity. (8) Renting of spray equipment. (9) Slides. 2/ (10) County policy. Estimated budget, including Government grant, was placed at $3,HO0.00. It was decided to hold regular meetings on the first Monday of each month at 1:30 P.M. It was recommended that T. Rawson be appointed Pest Control Officer, Weed Inspector and Regional Control Officer for the coyote program. This report was adopted on a motion by Councillor Donnelly. Carried. Mr. Wilson, of the firm of P. Campbell-Hope, called on the Council re fees, progress reports, and inspections. Motion by Councillor Davies that a cheque of $3,000.00 be forwarded to the Royal Bank of Canada in favour of P. Campbell-Hope and Associates. Carried. Fred Wilson called on the Council requesting that a piece of road in the S.ML 2-H2-2-WSth be closed. On a motion by Councillor Donnelly this matter was referred to the Municipal Committee for investigation and report. Carried. Wm. Kiel, of the Union Tractor and Equipment, paid a courtesy visit to the Council.

The regular meeting of the County Council washeld in the Council Chambers on Friday, June 12, 1953,at 2:00 P.M., Chairman Crandall presiding and thefollowing Councillors present: H. J. Boman,I. E. Davies, P. M. Baker, Henry Nagel, J. Donnelly,and P. Fraser.

Minutes of meeting of May 15, 1953, wereapproved on a motion by Councillor Baker. Carried.

Councillor Nagel submitted the followingreport for the Agricultural Service Board:

Meeting held June 1st, 1953, all memberspresent.

The following tentative program was agreedupon for 1953:

(1) Seeding to control weeds.

(2) Spraying demonstrations.

(3) Brush control by use of chemicals.

(H) Soil sterilant.

(5) Soil conservation.

(6) Seeding of road ditches.

(7) Publicity.

(8) Renting of spray equipment.

(9) Slides. 2/(10) County policy.

Estimated budget, including Governmentgrant, was placed at $3,HO0.00.

It was decided to hold regular meetings onthe first Monday of each month at 1:30 P.M.

It was recommended that T. Rawson beappointed Pest Control Officer, Weed Inspector andRegional Control Officer for the coyote program.

This report was adopted on a motion byCouncillor Donnelly. Carried.

Councillor Donnelly reported on theT. Odenbach case that his ailment was a skin diseaseand that work for him was difficult to find. A letterfrom the University Hospital classified him as indigentand submitted his account in the amount of $3H3.75.On a motion by the Chairman, the case was referred toCouncillor Donnelly for further information. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Nagel that all bills andaccounts recommended by Committees be passegfoggayment

Allan James called on the Council re propertytax on stock in trade and provisions for permit foroperation of store at Mecca Glen.

A delegation composed of R. T. Clark,M. M. Page, R. O. Wenaas, W. Clark, A. T. Clark,E. ML Fbster, R. G. Clark, P. J. Mlcahy, A. L. Huff,Geo. Johnston, R. J. Morrison, F. W. Magnuson,D. D. Redekopp, E..Dittmer, N. 0. Nelson, andRalph Meller called on the Council requestingimprovement in the road south of 1 to 6 in h5—3-W5th.The delegation was informed that H miles of thisroad was on the road program for this year, and thatwork on same would begin as soon as machinery wasavailable for that area.

Motion by Councillor Donnelly that assessorsbe paid on the basis of $2.00 per quarter sectionassessed, and that Mrs. D. Drummondbe hired on thebasis of $200.00 per month to assist the assessors inoffice work. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Fraser that CouncillorsDonnelly and Boman be a Committee of two to arrangefor the appointment of Civil Defence directors to workwith the Towns of Rimbey and Bashaw in setting upCivil Defence programs in those areas of the Countycontiguous to those respective Towns. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Davies that the Teachers‘Salary Schedule for 1953-54 be approved. Carried.

Information submitted re G. Burnett was tothe effect that he was the liability of the MunicipalDistrict of Stettler for hospital accounts.

Motion by Councillor Baker that Chairmanof School Committee be authorized to sign contracts andother documents relating to school buildings, as wellas cheques. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Donnelly that theChairman of each Committee be required to give areport of proceedings of their respective Committeesat the County meeting. Carried.

The financial statement showing receipts$1ns,259.62, payments $50,040.17, and bank balance of$100,299.66 for the month ending May 31, 1953, wasadopted on a motion by Councillor Boman. Carried.

On a motion by the Chairman the appointmentof E. Ellis and J. W. Bowden as deputies to the CivilDefence Director was approved. Carried.

On a motion by Councillor Baker thefollowing Councillors were appointed members of theCounty Civil Defence Committee: Councillors Davies,Donnelly and Boman. Carried.

On amotion by Councillor Fraser the firmof Beatty and Cotton were appointed official distrib-utors for 2,h-D, Polybor Chlorate and other chemicalsfor the Rimbey district. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Davies that Thos. Rawsonbe appointed Weed Inspector, Pest Control Officer,and Regional Control Officer for the Coyote Control 27 &Program. Carried..¢?/

budget of the Agricultural Service Board for 1953in the amount of $3,400.00 was approved. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Nagel to borrow $hO0,000.00to meet current capital expenditure awaiting proceedsof debentures, grants, etc. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Fraser to borrow$27,000.00 on a 5 year basis to cover purchases ofschool buses. Carried.

Motion by Chairman to borrow $6,000.00 on a3 year basis to retire balance of loan on schoolproperty purchased from Mrs. Dickau. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Donnelly to approvesale of drag to E. Scheuerman for $5.00. Carried.

Motion by Councillor Boman that J. W. Bowdenbe appointed plumbing inspector for the County. Carried.
