    1Politeknik Seberang Prai,

    2Universiti Utara Malaysia

Keywords: Sustainable manufacturing, MIG, electrical energy

Abstract: Sustainable manufacturing emphasizes on the needs of an energy efficient process

that optimise energy consumptions. Reduction in electrical energy consumption will diminish

the carbon emission in generating electricity at the power plant. Welding is one of the most

important joining technologies in manufacturing. Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) / Metal

Active Gas (MAG) is one of the popular welding processes. In welding, the process

parameters were not set to optimise electrical energy consumption for overall procedure. In

this research, an optimized electrical energy consumption in welding process was determined.

This was based on the optimised welding parameter model. The electrical energy consumed

were summarised in a single energy map. This model produces good quality and energy

efficient welding process. With reference to the design of experiments by Taguchi technique,

three parameters which include the current, voltage and wire feed rate were varied to obtain

an optimum energy efficient process and good quality of welding. The electrical energy

consumed during the process were calculated and recorded. The data were used to obtain an

optimised electrical energy consumption based on different welding parameters. The

optimized welding parameters were used to develop a suitable welding parameters model

which optimised the electrical energy consumption for the welding process. The reduction of

electrical energy consumption benefits the industries in having to reduce the overall cost of

    welding process.

Endothelial insulin resistance and whole-body insulin sensitivity – are they

    linked?

    Dr Piruthivi Sukumar,

University Academic Fellow, LICAMM, Faculty of Medicine & Health, University of

Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT, United Kingdom

    [email protected]; +44 75895 74533

With the world facing modern epidemic of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome any

new insights into the mechanisms behind them is invaluable to develop newer therapies.

Resistance to the effects of insulin and insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in endothelial

cells (EC) may promote the progression of type 2 diabetes and EC dysfunction. To dissect the

effect of the combination of insulin and IGF-1 resistance specifically in EC on glucose

homeostasis, nitric oxide (NO) availability and atherosclerosis, gene-modified mice were

generated carrying nonfunctional mutated human IGF-1R K1003R, specifically in EC

(mIGFREO) under the control of Tie2 promoter-enhancer.

In contrary to our thinking, insulin tolerance testing of mIGFREO showed enhanced

insulinmediated glucose lowering and consistent with enhanced insulin sensitivity lower

fasting free fatty acids and triglycerides compared to wild type littermates (WT).

Hyperinsulinaemic-euglycaemic clamp studies confirmed increased insulin sensitivity in

mIGFREO and consistent with this muscle Akt phosphorylation relative to Akt was

significantly increased in mIGFREO, whilst liver ratio remained unchanged. As expected,

both insulin and IGF-1 stimulated eNOS activity and phosphorylation were blunted in EC

from mIGFREO. mIGFREO had increased EC Nox4 NADPH oxidase (Nox4) expression and

consistent with increased Nox4, mIGFREO EC generated increased hydrogen peroxide.

Endothelial function assessed by vasorelaxation of aorta to acetylcholine remained

unchanged between mIGFREO and WT littermates. The basal level of eNOS phosphorylation

was enhanced in the mIGFREO endothelial cells compared to WT littermates. When crossed

onto an ApoE deficient background, mIGFREO mice did not develop accelerated

atherosclerosis. Furthermore, mIGFREO backcrossed on an IR haploinsufficient background

(IRKO), the mIGFREO mice demonstrated accelerated endothelial regeneration after femoral

artery wire compared to IRKO. These data reveal an intriguing relationship between insulin

and IGF-1 resistance at the level of EC and whole body insulin sensitivity. Despite reduced

insulin-mediated NO generation, the combination of insulin and IGF-1 resistance leads to

enhanced whole body insulin sensitivity and does not promote atherosclerosis.

THE STATE OF THE ART IN PEER REVIEW

    Jonathan Tennant

Scince Open Communication Director, United Kingdom

    Keyword : Open Science

Abstract : Scholarly communication is in a perpetual state of disruption. Within this, peer

review of research articles remains an essential part of the formal publication process,

distinguishing it from virtually all other modes of communication. In the last several years,

there has been an explosive wave of innovation in peer review research, platforms,

discussions, tools, and services. This is largely coupled with the ongoing and parallel

evolution of scholarly communication as it adapts to rapidly changing environments, within

what is widely considered as the „open research‟ or „open science‟ movement. Here, this talk

will summarise the current ebb and flow around changes to peer review and consider its role

in a modern digital research and communications infrastructure and suggest why uptake of

new models of peer review appears to have been so low compared to what is often viewed as

the „traditional‟ method of peer review. Finally, this talk will offer some insight into the

potential futures of scholarly peer review and consider what impacts this might have on the

broader scholarly research ecosystem. In particular, this talk will focus on the key traits of

certification and reputation, moderation and quality control, and engagement incentives, and

discuss how these interact with socio-technical aspects of peer review and academic culture.

EARTHQUAKE HEALTH CLUSTER PIJAY AN EXPERIENCE

Oleh Dr Safrizal Rahman, dr, MKes, SpOT

Staff pengajar Fak Kedokteran Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh

Keyword: Disaster, medical assistance team, health cluster

Abstract : Aceh is an area that often experiences disasters, especially earthquakes. After the

2004 every year almost 3 earthquakes happen, with more than 200 deaths, 1200 injuries and

hundreds of billions of rupiah in losses. The health cluster is an important part of the disaster.

Health care for disasters victims has progressed over time. The desire to be able to carry out

good and organized services in health clusters had already been carried out during the 2016

Jaya earthquake, covering the collection of all medical assistance teams, registering all

victims who entered the hospital and had surgery, coordinating the arrival of the medical aid

team , designing a wound care system after the patient returns home or to evacuation.

activities, primarily through sub-contract or known for as outsourcing policy. Structured

activities are mainly based on standard processes, procedures and tools while unstructured

mostly related to obtain new experience or knowledge in the different field through

supervision. In support and delivery IT service, increasingly popular standardization efforts

to be implemented into the business process which advocate for diverse kind of management

such as capability, capacity, availability, service-level and financial in order to attain best

level of IT product and quality result. As IT departments or division plan to bridge the digital

divide that become the current trend, it is important that the automation can empower the

process to become more efficient, there should be the trade-off to gain some improved

activities if not have intention to hold the advantages as a adaptive, trigger and catalyst due to

the interdependency. Thus, this study wants to develop an application in regard to deliver

outsourcing service in various classification or type by understanding the current issue in the

outsourcing in relation to pros and cons to balance the demand from the corporation (client)

and preferences from the worker (provider).

Abstract: A multinational gas company operating at Sumatra Island is processing 260

MMscfd of natural gas to produce around 110 MMscfd of gas sales and 26,000 bpd of NGL

products. The purpose of this study is to optimize the operation in order to minimize the ratio

of C2 / C3 at NGL products not to exceed 2.0%, in accordance with the technical

specifications required for export NGL products. Prior to optimization, the C2 / C3 ratio of

NGL products was more than 4.95%. The constraints to be considered in optimization are

high gas flow rate to LP Inlet Compressor, which is limit at 260 MMscfd, CO2 removal unit

which limit to 170 MMscfd, and high pressure on the Condensate Stripper column which is

kept at 270 psig to avoid back pressure to inlet facilities. Optimization is done by changing

the operating pressure on Condensate Stripper column, temperature on Pretreatment Chiller

and temperature on Condensate Stripper Reboiler. Optimization results showed that optimum

conditions were achieved when the operating pressure on the Condensate Stripper column

was changed from 250 psig to 267 psig, the temperature at Pretreatment Chiller changed from

    65oF to 70

oF and Condensate Stripper Reboiler changed from 245

    oF to 267

    oF with these

optimum condition, the C2 / C3 ratio of NGL products has been reduced to 1.38%

(simulation), 2.0% (actual). Process optimization has been succeeded in lowering the flared

gas in Fixed Platform Unit from 5 MMscfd to not exceed 1 MMscfd.

Abstract: Fulfilling the need for energy is still heavily dependent on fossil fuels. Meanwhile,

our fossil energy reserves are declining. On the other hand, Indonesia's electrification ratio is

still at 80.4%. The lowest electrification ratio is in East Nusa Tenggara (54.77%) and Papua

(36.41%). Low electrification ratios mostly occur in remote areas as well as small islands.

Inadequate infrastructure and also the high cost of building transmission lines to remote areas

as well as small islands are the main obstacles. One of the efforts made to overcome the

electricity crisis is to utilize Renewable energy resources (Renewable energy resources). This

study discusses the study of the utilization of Kaliandra wood pellets as fuel for the power

plant. Research methodology is done by analyzing the results of lab tests conducted at PT.

Sucofindo to Kaliandra Pellet samples. The research was conducted by calculating Low Heat

Value of Kaliandra pellets. From the analysis results obtained 1 kg of Kaliandra pellet

produces 5,477 kWh with the price of Rp. 744, 24 / kWh so it is possible to be used as fuel

for the steam power plant for small scale.

Keywords: septin, mosquito, Aedes, vector control, biologics.

Abstract: Aedes mosquitoes are important arbovirus vectors of tropical diseases like dengue

fever, Chikugunya fever, yellow fever and the zika virus. The most effective strategy for

controlling the spread of these disease agents depend on the effective control of the

populations of the vector mosquito in order to reduce contact with humans. The endeavour to

develop efficient vector control strategies of these mosquitoes requires a comprehensive

understanding of the biology of the mosquito so that measures to reduce vector populations

can be implemented in endemic areas. In view of the need to further our understanding of

Aedes mosquitoes, we propose to study the genetics and cell biology of septins in these

insects, an important group of proteins, so that the information obtained can be used to design

    biologics that target these mosquitoes.

Keywords: rice husk, activated carbon, silica, chemical activation, adsorption

Abstract: This research is done to optimize the rice husk residue usage with the production

of activated carbon by using the chemical activation method consecutively after the silica

extraction. The silica extracted rice husk was impregnated with different concentration of

KOH solution and then burned to activation at the predetermined activation temperature to

obtain the activated carbon. The optimum condition to produce the activated carbon is

impregnation with 30 % concentration of KOH solution at 750 oC activation temperature. The

maximum methylene blue uptake of the activated carbon produced are tested to be 322.36 mg

    g-1

. The adsorption isotherm model study was done using Langmuir isotherm. The Langmuir

isotherm adsorption capacity, Qe was calculated to be 416.67 mg g-1

    while the rate of

    adsorption, b value was 4.8 mg-1

with R2 0.9995. The results obtained from this study suggest

that the silica extracted rice husk is a suitable precursor for preparing an activated carbon and

the activated carbon have good absorption capacity.

Abstract: Intestinal parasitic infections among indigenous children have been identified as

one of the important public health problems among the disadvantaged population. The

prevalence of these infections causes significant illnesses and diseases among children. This

cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitic

infections and their associated risk factors among children aged 2 to 14 years in

Perkampungan Orang Asli Ulu Gerik, Perak. A total of 75 faecal samples were obtained in

this study. Results from our study showed that the intestinal parasitic infections are prevalent

among indigenous children. Infection by Trichuris trichiura was the most common infection

(65.3%), followed by Hookworm (46.7%), Ascaris lumbricoides (42.7%) and Entamoeba

spp. (16.0). Only 1.3% of children had Giardia spp. infection. More than half of the children

in this study have polyparasitism representing 54.7%. Social and environmental factors such

as Father‟s occupation (p=0.019), water sources (p=0.039), type of toilet (p=0.026) and

intake of the supplement (p=0.021) were significantly associated with polyparasitism.

Promotion of preventive measures such as deworming, increase awareness on healthy

lifestyle and improvement in housing facilities are urgently needed to reduce the intestinal

    parasitic infections in this community.
