LIGHTINGBUDGET

3 POINT LIGHTING

Key LightIs the brightest light which lights your talent, or key point of interest of your camera.

Fill LightOpposite the key light, fills in the shadows a little bit, most notably on the face where the key light starts to fall off. This gives a person’s face more of a 3d look, just as an artist would shade in a circle to give the circle the appearance of a sphere. (Fill lights are not typically as bright as the key light)

BacklightBacklight is a hair light. Typically lighted from behind and over the head to light the hair and shoulders. This completes the 3 dimensional scene you created around your talent. This brings out highlights in the hair, and helps separate your subject from the background.

INT. BROOKLYN RESTAURANT - LATE NIGHT1.

Kara (31) tall, athletic and full of mystery confidently strides across a quiet neighborhood bar/restaurant.

Kara approaches a table where Nick (34) dressed in all black with leather jacket is drinking water--very nervously.

They stare at each other intently for a moment.

KARAHow loud does the clock tick?

NICKLouder than the morning sun.

They both nod. Kara takes a seat across from Nick.

NICK (CONT’D)You should order something.

Nick quietly directs his eyes to the menu in front of Kara. Kara carefully opens the menu. They lock eyes.

KARAOh good, I see that they have thelobster bisque here. Think I shouldorder it to go.

NICKThe bisque is best piping hot. Haveit here.

Kara's starts to scoot away from the table.Nick grabs the chair legs with his feet.

NICK (CONT’D)You're not going anywhere.More intense stares. Kara looks at her purse.

I wouldn't do that. We're notalone.

Kara is incredibly nervous now. Nick reaches into his coat pocket.

NICK (CONT’D)Do exactly what I say and you getto live another day.

Kara looks at Nick in complete horror.
