PresIdent’s Message For those collectors whose only source of CTC coupons involves the use of multiplier coupons at the CTC gas bars, September 2nd was the day it all ended I got most of my coupons from that source The coupons you receive in the store do not add up to very much these days Nowadays, even if you can swap bundles at the gas bar or store, you will not have enough coupons to replace the notes you take out of the bundles with what you get from the gas bar on your purchase The gas bars will only hand out 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢ coupons from now on and only at their base amount and it seems like only if you insist to get them

The CTC dealers in my area will no longer even carry the 50¢ or 1 dollar coupons This is another attempt by the Corporation to track its customers through the use of their electronic money on the plastic cards We all knew this day was coming but it still hurts Looking back on the summer, we had another really great swap meet this August Lots of trading, swapping and discus-sions at Eva and Jerome’s place in Blainville Thanks to Eva and Jerome for the wonderful hospitality and thanks to all the la-dies who helped make this meet such a great success The next swap meet will be held in Deep River Aug 4-6, 2017 If you can’t make another meeting you should make an effort to attend one of these swap meets as they are the highlight of our col-lecting year This year, being an even numbered year, is an election year for our club The last newsletter put out a call for nomina-tions for all the various positions Apart from one email from a person confirming their position no other names were put forth The executive for the next two years therefore will be as before as indicated on page two of this newsletter We seem to have found a suitable replacement for our editor Jacques Poitras has offered to try out with a few edi-tions during the new year, to see if he enjoys the task as much as his predecessor enjoyed it Jerome will work with our new editor to make the transition as smooth as possible He has done this job for many years and deserves a well earned rest Ghislaine and her translation committee will stay on and assist our new editor as long as need be As a little exercise I purchased $45 74 and with tax $51 69 worth of goodies from my local CTC store Using my CTC moneycard I received $ 18 eMoney on my card That is equiva-lent to 394% before tax and 348% after tax A far cry from the old days when we were getting 3% nationally That would have been $1 35 in real CTC money I hope everyone had a great summer and managed to add something meaningful to their collection

    rcna MeetIng, July 23rd, 2016 - Ottawa, OntarIOby Jacques Poitras - M0000947 - poitras8491@rogers com

attendance: Jacques Poitras, 2nd vice-president Jerome Fourre, Editor & Quebec director Toby Grimminck, Ontario director Roger Fox, Ontario director Everett Runtz, Ontario director James Williston, Western director (stopped to say hello, had to attend another meeting)Members: Eva Gagnon, Betsy Grimminck, Norman Belsten, Tim Henderson, Don Bradt, Thomas Caton and Eric F Zavadil (a new member) welcome. Meeting opened around 3:15 pm Roger thanked everyone for attending He was asked by President Sandy Lipin to chair the session Sandy sent his regrets as he had another commit-ment and could not join us this week-end Roger thanked the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association for providing room and including our meeting as part of the annual convention He had personally thanked Steve Woodland, co-chair of the event in Ottawa, and asked that we also say a special “thank you” to all the volunteers who worked hard to make the RCNA event a success Volunteers are easy to spot as they are all wearing bright yellow shirts We encourage members to entertain the option of hav-ing their local club link to our website on theirs It’s a way to promote our club and maybe recruit some new members For more information, Mike Cahill can answer your questions Mike also takes care of our meeting announcements on the CCN website and paper and the club’s Facebook page Why not like the page while you’re on facebook Doug Adams maintains our website, so if you have any in-formation to share with members, Doug will be more than happy to post the information The 11th edition of the Bilodeau Guide to Canadian Tire Money has recently been released Jerome had a few copies on hand for sale at the meeting There is more information in the newsletter, on our website and they will be available at the Swap Meet this summer Fred White had an interesting discovery on coupons mixed-up in a new bundle No one has an idea how this hap-pened Looking forward to talking to Fred to have more infor-mation and solve the mystery

The swap meet is scheduled for August 5-6th at Jerome’s place We expect to have 25-30 members at the meet and we’re confident it will be a success Being an even year, this means we are in an election year Those interested to join the executive are more than wel-comed and they can send a note to our president We have seen the recent elimination of the product cou-pons, now the multiplier coupons are being phased-out at the end of September Let’s hope the store coupons are not next on the list There is hope that store coupons may last longer In 2 years, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the coupons, something worth celebrating Then, in 2022, Canadian Tire will celebrate its first century, Canadian Tire and store coupons are linked together, we should keep them circulating Michael Medline, the CEO of Canadian Tire is being re-placed by Steven Wetmore, who returns as CEO Steven Wet-more stepped down as deputy-chair of the board to return as CEO He will remain a director on the board As for Micheal Medline, he occupied the position for less than 2 years No details have been made available on the surprise change which occurred in mid July No new coupons have been released recently The change of CEOs means that coupons from Series 33 will be followed by a return to Series 32 Sandy and Toby were stars in a recent issue of the Cana-dian Coin News With no other business, Jerome finished up the meeting with a presentation on the CTC Gift Card collection At last year’s RCNA meeting, we had a small presentation on Gift cards Since then, a number of new cards were issued; an up-dated checklist was built with Hi’s and Low’s as an added fea-ture We also discovered that some cards are only available via the CTC corporate website We also found a way to dif-ferentiate between store issues and third party retailers (i e drug stores, groceries stores… ) issues, hint check out the “bar code” on the back adjournment. Meeting was adjourned at 5:00pm On behalf of the Club, we would like to thank Roger for chairing the meeting and Jerome for taking care of the edu-cational session It’s always a pleasure to listen to experts on Canadian Tire collectables and learn from them This meeting is a nice break in the summer, but also serves to build interest in attending the Swap Meet event in less than 2 weeks

Did you ever notice the “VOIDs” on a note before?

Mr Link here, Hello fellow collectors As I was reading the January edi-tion of the Collector I came across “Let us Link Together” and noticed it has been some time since CTCCC has had any activ-ity from our local Coin Clubs coming forward and linking to-gether with the CTCCC When I looked through our member list I saw that the members come from all across Canada, ex-tending from east to west coast, others from the U S & Europe

I thought it was time to make a plea to my fellow CTCCC members It would take only five to ten minutes of your valu-able time If you or a friend belong to a coin club or have one in your area, why not contact them to see if they are interested in linking to us Let’s do everything we can to ensure the survival of the CTCCC Thanks for your help

    2016 swaP MeetIng - blaInVIlle, Quebecby Jacques Poitras - M0000947 - poitras8491@rogers com

attendance: Sandy Lipin, president Doug Adams, 1st vice-president Jacques Poitras, 2nd vice-president Ghislaine Theroux-Memme, Treasurer & Membership Roger Fox, past president / Ontario director Toby Grimminck, Ontario director Everett Runtz, Ontario director Jerome Fourre, Editor & Quebec director Marc-André Lemire, Quebec director Pierre Donnelly, Quebec director Stew Cameron, Atlantic director Jacques Ouellette, Atlantic director Thayer Bouck, past president Members: Norm Belsten, Don Bradt, Daniel Cryans, Roger Laliberté and Lucien Levesque, welcome. Meeting opens at 1:00 pm Sandy thanks everyone for attending This is the 14th annual swap meet being held (Toby 1999, 2001, 2010, 2015 - Jerome, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016 - Everett 2008, 2009 and Sandy 2014) club finances - Ghislaine reports that we remain in good financial situation with approximately $13,000 in our account Financial statements were printed in the April newsletter Roger points out we have more available because the inven-tory of the 25th anniversary die cast is showing as a liability (not sold) Point will be added for discussion later under new business Thanks to Ghislaine for keeping our books in order Membership - Our active members as of July sits at 210 2017 registration renewal is on-going and those attending the Swap Meet were given the chance to renew their membership 2017 Membership cardsMembership cards are ready for 2017 Cards are based with the color and specifications representing a $10 00 electronic card, the PRC-SM-01 Also, to help raise funds for the club, a “specimen” card is available at the cost of $5 00 per card auctions Summer auction just completed Results were good This being a summer auctions, lower number of people submit-ted bids (7 different members vs an average of 20 bidders) Average # of lots in auction is 220 lots; this last one was smaller with 136 lots 77% of lots were sold when we usually sell 66% Selling prices varies but feeling is the lots are sold at approximately 2/3 of values from the Bilodeau Guide Profit from the auction is small, but it was never intended to gener-ate large profits The objective of the Club auction is to make coupons and other items available to members who do not have access to coupons in their regions We are always accept-ing coupons for auctions Would like to note that lots selling are usually in higher grades notes (Fine and up) Lots that are lower grade or fillers do not attract bidders Please keep this in mind when sending lots for auction Thanks Doug for your time and commitment to making this a success donation auction The last Charity auction generated a profit of $441 Doug gave a cheque for the profits of the auction to the president of

the Board for the Canadian Tire Jump Start foundation Next Charity auction will be in 2 years Charity selection will be discussed at a later meeting election year This being an election year, Sandy encouraged anyone who wants to maintain their position, or seek a different role with the committee to send him a note (e-mail is also accepted) All positions are up for election Deadline for submitting applica-tion is the end of August Jerome points out that the position for editor of the newsletter is vacant He would like to pursue other interest and spend more time on research and article writing Anyone interested should contact Sandy or Jerome club meetings It is noted that our club is very active as we can see in the number of meetings held in the last year or so, Torex, Toronto Coin Expo, ONA, Montreal meets, Kingston, Nova Scotia meets, RCNA and Swap Meets Not all meetings are consid-ered officials; however, the ONA, RCNA and annual Swap Meet would be considered more officials Jeff Fournier has approached members to offer services (i e medals for the Club) He is also writing articles for the Canadian Coin News and would be more than happy to do articles about the Club, or about members If you want to share information, he’s a good friend of the Club Last year, Jared Stapleton who runs the Toronto Coin Expo had invited us to attend his fall show He provided great support by having a room for a meeting, providing projector, screen and so on His effort were greatly appreciated, however we did not have a large attendance, and most of those who attended are regular members of the Club Expo being very close to Torex is not helping to attract new members facebook Following our withdrawal from the Canadian Paper Money Forum, the executive has decided to re-activate the Canadian Tire Coupon Collectors Club group on Facebook Currently 21 members have liked the page and are being notified of updates We encourage all members to like our page The Web-site and Facebook are our means to provide members with regular updates as quickly as possible It does not replace the newsletter but rather a different method of communication to keep members informed Information posted could appear in the future edition of newsletter if it is still of interest Club Meetings are always up-to-date, as long as information is sent to Doug Adams and Mike Cahill Jerome welcomes everybody to post information on the page If posting are not relevant or not related to club activities, mediators of the page have access to remove the content This topic also prompted the discussion around e-news-letter and mail newsletter Some members felt they were being penalized with a newsletter coming in the mail as opposed to email Understand not all members are comfortable with technology, or have access to emails Once they receive the newsletter, they can contact a member who is selling items, but those with electronic newsletter have the advantage of getting the information and dealing faster After discussions, we agreed

  • The Collector 6 Vol 26 No 4, 2016

the newsletter would be mailed, and sent electronically 2 busi-ness days later to allow members to receive the newsletter about the same time We understand not all members will receive the mail version within 2 days, but the compromise was accepted sesquicentennial activities (canada 150) Our 2017 Membership cards are printed with the Canada 150 logo on the left side of the cards The RCNA has offered to partner with the various Clubs to produce a medal One side would be showing the RCNA logo and the other side would be specific to the clubs order-ing the medals Details are being worked on Any clubs that have pattern could be used for the medals At the last RCNA club delegate breakfast, Yvon Marquis had also proposed that a coupon could be produced with the same idea (RCNA logo on one side, Club design on the other) This could be a cheaper option for smaller clubs RCNA executive will consider and communicate the information Jeff Fournier offered to produce medals similar to some done in the past for Kingston Roger Fox proposed that every group (Nova Scotia, Quebec, etc) choose one meeting in 2017 and make it a Canada 150 CTCCC meeting Information for that meeting could be more historical (i e history of the club) Could have cake, Canadian flags and other things to celebrate Canada 150 The next Swap Meet could be our national meeting to celebrate Canada 150 demise of Multiplier coupons Eastern Canada has already been without Multiplier Coupons for a few months Quebec, Ontario and West are next on the list Don Bradt shared information he was given where the Ottawa region will cease the use of Multiplier Coupons in September 2nd leadership / awards No awards to be presented It is noted that Jacques Poitras was presented a presiden-tial award at the last RCNA in July in Ottawa Jacques received the award for his contribution to the RCNA, for the transla-tion work he does with the CN Journal web ads We have ad space available on our web-site The Cost is $5 per year per ad Anyone can take advantage of this

newsletter / dues The current membership dues are as follow: (no change from current) Regular - Color is $40 per year Regular - Black and White is $15 per year Regular - Electronic newsletter is $12 per year Spousal - no newsletter (with regular member) - Cost is $5 newsletter editorAs mentioned earlier, we are now seeking candidates to take over the role of newsletter editor Over the years, the task has been done by volunteers who spent a lot of time in writing and doing the layout THANK YOU Jerome and the group that works on the newsletter It is a big task and is very important to keep our members informed

There is software used to do the layout and it can be transferred easily The software is not too complicated to use The main task remains to find articles and work with the team including the translation committee to complete the newslet-ter on time If some members are interested in helping, a “team” can be established to do some research and editing Not every article has to be in-depth, very technical; some members are novice and could get lost if too deep Anyone interested, please contact Jerome A suggestion was made to maybe approach a university or community college that could provide interns or have students do the editing of the newsletter new business Breaking News on the web-site should be updated on regular basis Breaking News from 3 months ago is no longer of interest for this title Most recent news can remain in the Breaking News, and maintain 5-6 of the previous Breaking News under a new title “Recent News” Doug to revamp that section 25th anniversary die cast. We still have 80 trucks in inventory (from 108 same time last year) If we sell 20-25 / year, we should be sold out by the time the next truck is released Funds we would generate from the sale of those 80 trucks could easily pay for the next batch that we will produce (maybe for a 30th anniversary) All costs related to the production of the 252 trucks has been paid for by the Club new / Old ceO for ctc Canadian Tire has made an unexpected change for the president in late July Stephen Wetmore is returning as presi-dent and CEO for Canadian Tire Second quarter results are very strong for Canadian Tire and affiliates (Mark Work’s Warehouse, Hockey and Sports, retail, gas stores…) The Financial Services division was squeezed and generated lower margins partly due to initiative to sign-up more card members (e-money) Mr Wetmore wants to speed-up the conversion to digital / e-commerce faster than what was happening gift cards Gift cards may appear to be the replacement of Canadian Tire coupons A lot of the members have developed some interest in the gift cards as we could see with many attending the swap had already purchased or had supplies of cards for sale It is expected that coupons will remain (although fewer will be produced) and will regain in popularity in later years Marc-André asked if we could approach the corporation to produce coupons every year for collectors Roger Fox and Doug Adams both shared personal experience when they had discussion in the past with influent members in senior manage-ment Even with the approval of senior management, it does not always make its way to the agenda of key decision makers, or follow-up stops due to changes in management Before ending the meeting, Doug takes the opportunity to thank, on behalf of the members, Jerome and Eva for hav-ing us this week-end Also wants to extend thanks to all the volunteers who work behind the scene and look after the preparation of meals Greatly appreciated adjournment Meeting is adjourned at 2:50pm

The Nova Scotia CTCCC Meeting was scheduled to be held on 17 September, 2016 at the home of club members, Bunny and Pat Turner Upon arrival we were informed that Bunny was taken to the hospital She passed away that afternoon On behalf of all club members, I pass along to Pat and the family our sincere sympathy

The meeting was moved to the home of Cheryll and Stew Cameron There were 4 members in attendance; David Dick, Mel Larsen and Cheryll and Stew Cameron Notable absentees were Mike Hackett and Bob Ronan Mike had prior commitments and Bob received an email that the meeting was cancelled

The meeting was opened by Stew Cameron at 2:25PM After a brief discussion around the table, we had our “Show and Tell” segment Dave told us that he misses the Multipliers and this has really hurt him in obtaining coupons Mel showed us some “Motel style Coupons” that he gathered together many years ago I showed my recently acquired items; a CTC licence plate, a red velour topped square CTC gold coloured tin I also passed out some T-shirts that were given to me by Marc-Andre Lemire

In New Business, I reviewed the minutes of the recent Swap Meet in Blainville I mentioned the upcoming coin show in Dart-mouth that Mike and I will be attending Our chance again to

maybe sign up a few members I asked for some ideas from the members in attendance on the 150th Canada Anniversary next year Plenty of time to come up with some ideas I am going to ask about setting up a display and information session on CTC collecting at our local library More to come later on this I in-formed the members about Gift Card Collecting and that many members are collecting these as an alternate until they come across that elusive coupon

In our “Sell and Swap” segment, Mel laid claim to two Die Cast trucks that I was selling With no more discussions and all sales completed, we called upon our photographer to take the group picture The Meeting closed at 4:10PM

The next Meeting, scheduled for November 19th will be at the home of Cheryll and Stew Cameron If you are not a member and would like to become one, please contact me

To our members in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and westward, our meetings are always open to you If you are ever in the area, please give me a call, even if there is no meeting scheduled

I encourage all Nova Scotia Members to attend these Meet-ings and bring their extras, you just don’t know what you may sell or purchase

The CTCCC meeting in Montreal was held on Saturday September 17th, 2016 at Roussin Community Centre We had a great turnout with over 20 members present We had the plea-sure of welcoming 2 new members (and brothers) Louis-Philippe Lafrenière, an avid coupon collector, and Jean-René Lafrenière, collector of trucks

We started the meeting with the usual exchange among members and discussions of our new finds Several of our mem-bers also renewed their membership French CTC fridge mag-nets were handed out by Marc-André Lemire to any member wishing to have a set Pierre Donnelly shared with us his rare collection of miniature Canadian Tire trucks

As usual, we had a door prize (vol 1 of the Bilodeau Guide) which was won by Louis-Philippe Lafrenière, and our 50/50 ($30 50) which was won by our president, Sandy Lipin

Seeing that no one stepped up, at 11:15 our educational session, was provided by Jerome Fourre He informed us of a new gift card VNR-TY-02-0716, found by Sandy Lipin He also informed us that with the new point cards, coupons are becoming very scarce We must insist that the cashiers give them to us be-cause most cashiers are pushing the use of the point cards instead of giving out coupons at the point of sale

There are 2 new Jump Start trucks available this fall, in limited editions, the first a tractor trailer with two trailers and a 1938 Studebaker pickup Both models are available in red and gold

A 1940 Ford truck will also be available in October, in the stores, in red as this years collectible die-cast

There was an error found in the new Bilodeau Guide (Vol-ume 11) for the S32 series of 25¢ and 50¢ The 25¢ is listed as D14 when in fact it is a D13 and the 50¢ is listed as E13 but the date is listed as 2012 when it should be 2013

Starting in April 2017, our newsletter will be changing hands from Jerome Fourre to Jacques Poitras, who graciously accepted to take over the task as editor During the transition, Jerome will continue to help with the production of the newsletter and Ghislaine Théroux-Mêmme will continue to provide support for the translation until Jacques can set up his own team

In other news, there has been a “shake-up” at Canadian Tire; Michael Medline was let go and Stephen Wetmore is back

Our meeting ended with most of us (17 to be exact, the most ever!) heading out to our usual spot, Teddy’s Deli, for their famous smoked meat

Our next meeting is scheduled for November 5th Anyone interested in attending is always welcome

Here are the latest cards found or that have been report-ed by members See below the list of these cards Keep in mind, all serial numbers have 6272, the Bank Identification

Number (BIN) in front If you have new cards that we have not listed, please email me a photocopy of both sides of the card with any information that you may have concerning them

I had the chance to attend the Canadian Tire Dealers Convention in 2008, which was held in Montreal with four or five other members of our club Our club was given a vendors booth and invited to set up a presentation on CTC collecting The booths regularly cost $5,000 for a ten foot by ten foot booth We got to meet dealers from all over Canada that stopped by to see our collections I don’t have to mention that we met lots of new friends and several old friends during the course of this three day event We even got to meet Martha Billes and get her autograph (She made us give a five dollar donation to her favorite charity - JumpStart just to get her signature) During this convention, we were situated close to the booth of the people in charge of the CTC gift card program

They were promoting their newest line of cards The four cards were the VNR-BB(Ball & Basketball), VNR-CF(Clock & Frying pan), VNR-SE(Sawblade & Extention) and VNR-CW(Compass & Wheel cover) They had special chocolats made up in the form of these four cards with the tops printed to resemble the cards To keep our hands clean they were presented in plastic business card holders as shown below I also picked up another smaller chocolat wrapped in aluminium foil with a $2 00 note printed on the front The printing was in the same color as the $2 00 of the time - ie: burgundy If you ever get a chance to be invited to the Dealers Convention, don’t hesitate to accept You will be surprised to see all the giveaways that are presented to attendees

When checking out the Specialized High Low list it becomes apparent that some of the modern coupons have a very low mintage Some of the series that this applies to would be: S28-F07 10,000 S31-E12 450,000 S31-G12 110,000 S32-D14 100,000 S33-E13 123,000

The quantities shows how many notes have been issued to date It has also been observed that the Gas Bars and Stores are ordering a lot fewer coupons nowadays thereby reducing the chances of us finding something exciting Everyone that can access the specialized Hi Lo list on our Club web site is invited to contribute any numbers that they may have to try and keep this list up to date Please send me a scan or photocopy Comments may be directed to author

The signatures on this issue is McCann/Wetmore This Study has just been completed on the S31-E12 series The quantity issued is 441000 normal coupons and 9000 mismatched serial numbers for a total of 450,000

The mismatched serial numbers appeared at every 50000 coupons beginning at the 8000 mark There was a quantity of 1000 mismatched in each group Comments may be directed to the author

Our new Facebook page was officially launched on April 1, 2016 Some members have found it and embraced it, and some are viewing the page but have not hit the ‘join’ or the ‘post’ buttons yet

If you are already a Facebook user, the process is simple After you log on to your Facebook account just type “Canadian tire coupon collector club” in the Facebook search bar You’ll then see the “Public Group” location for the club and click on that link

You will now be able to see all the posts that members have made, and also the names of the members who have already joined You should also take the step to join the group The advantage of joining is twofold

You’ll be able to post comments, pictures or ask questions, and secondly, you will now have a link on the left side of your main Facebook page which makes hopping to the Club page from your home page just a click away

After you’ve joined the group, you’ll see a new option appear on the club page If you click on “Write Post” you’ll be able to post pictures, questions, new finds, etc

Our initial launch stated that this was an information forum, and we didn’t want to turn it into a competition for eBay Please keep your purchases contained to direct messag-ing or email The Facebook page is ‘moderated’ by a couple of senior Club members, and commercial content will be removed I look forward to seeing you all in the cyber world

For 25 years, Fonthill’s Thayer Bouck has been col-lecting Canadian Tire money Once a week, the 81-year-old Bouck heads down to Canadian Tire with a stack of his own bills and a bit of real money as well, to spend a few hours pouring over the store’s new coupons, looking for oddities “I was fascinated by differences between coupons”, said Bouck “A signature or something would change, or switch places, and I would wonder what was going on at the company in Toronto ” These oddities might include missing signatures, missing serial numbers, a smudged print job, or other blemishes If he finds one, he takes a coupon from his own pile and replaces it He then takes his new find home and adds it to one of his many binders full of various coupons, something he may keep for himself, to trade later with other like-minded enthusiasts in the Canadian Tire Coupon Collector Club “Twice a week I go through hundreds of them,” he said And when he finds a rare one “Oh, I’m ecstatic!” On very rare occasions, Bouck may find a whole “deck” of abnormalities Those he just purchases outright, something to share later with other collectors across the country Just last

month a group of them got together in Quebec to look over each other’s collectors and made a few trades “We go and we swap coupons, trading with each other There were about 40 of us there,” Bouck said The club has about 350 active members nationwide; Bouck himself was the presi-

dent for seven years, until poor health forced him to relinquish the position And though this wasn’t enough to keep him from his coupons, another threat to his favourite hobby now looms on the horizon: Canadian Tire is preparing to go digital Out with paper, mostly, in with a digital rewards program “It would be disappointing,” said Bouck “There wouldn’t be much rea-son for a club anymore ”According to Canadian Tire, their traditional money is not be discontinued entirely, and the new rewards program is designed to complement the paper coupons rather than replace them But for collectors like Bouck, fewer coupons means fewer chances to find abnormalities And though one can’t help but wonder if the writing is on the digital wall, for now Bouck carries on, always on the lookout for another interesting oddity to add to his collection

Today Jerome sent me a copy of this fifty cent gas bar cou-pon and asked me to do a short article about them Is it a vari-ety not yet documented or is there an alternate explanation? I had found the same thing 20 some years ago and I thought then that it was a variety At the time I showed them to Don Robb and a few other people at one of the ONA meetings The general consensus was that these were marks from a dirty roller transferred to the coupon during the printing process I accepted that explanation and stopped saving them

After digging around in my gas bar varieties today for about 2 hours, I found a few of them that I had kept Looking at them with fresh eyes I found something that I hadn’t noticed back then I found three coupons that had identical marks Now I’m no longer sure whether they’re roller marks or that there is some other explanation I don’t know enough about the printing process to know for sure Are they a variety of roller marks? Please let me know what you think
