THE 100$ START-UP
CHRIS GUILLEBEAU
THERE'S NO EXCUSE NOT TO DOWHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.
WHEREAS MOST BOOKS IN THISGENRE OFTEN SPEAK IN
GENERALITIES ANDHYPOTHETICALS, GUILLEBEAU
DIVES IN WITH BOTH FEET AFTERHAVING IDENTIFIED,
RESEARCHED, AND INTERVIEWED1500 DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS. HEDELVES INTO THE FINANCES, THETIME SPENT, AND WHETHER ORNOT THE RISK WAS WORTH THE
REWARD.
Spoiler alert: it was.
Only in his early thirties, Guillebeauhas traveled to over 170 countries and
has never received a “regular”paycheck.
Although a nomadic young man may notseem like the entrepreneur I want to takeadvice from, I must say that while reading
through his book, I was not just hearingwhat was being said, but truly listening to
and understanding him.
Certainly Chris’ own story isinspiring, but what really makes
the book is when it goes onto speakof others who have achieved
monetizing their passion. Take forexample the Canadian
snowboarder...
Tired of earning a meager income as an instructor, hedecided something needed to be done to better his
annual salary. After brainstorming different possibleopportunities, he realized that there was a market for aDVD set of instructional videos. After creating, taping,
and producing his own original films, this formersnowboard instructor became the CEO of his very own
300,000$ dollar/year business.
Although not exactly conventional, Chris’ bolddefiance of traditional business models is intriguing,
and in many cases, compelling.
