- 1. It started with $100
2. Maria was the first person in her family to graduate from
high school.
Her family was so proud they came up with enough money to pay for
one class at Washtenaw Community College.
However, she couldnt afford to pay for the book.
3. Maria went to talk to Edwina Jarrett, a WCC Counselor.
Edwinawas able to give her $100 to buy the textbook.
4. This made all the difference.
5. Maria earned her Associates degree in two years.
This year, she will earn her Bachelors degree in Art History.
She has been to France and Italy and plans to continue her studies
by applying to a Masters program in Europe.
6. The Counselors at WCC started a fund several years ago, paid for
through their own contributions, to help students like Maria whom
they see every day.
The WCC Foundation has been providing a grant to this fund each
year for the past six years to help even more students like
Maria.
7. Gifts from generous donors make it possible for the Foundation
to provide this support.
8. It takes a community to really change a life.
