Principal’s Report:
E very year around this time I take the opportunity to
thank and congratulate our support staff who aren‘t
teachers in the classroom, but fulfil roles that support
and assist in critical ways to gain the best outcomes for our
young ones.
On behalf of the whole school community I thank the follow-
ing people for their outstanding work:
Maureen Oliver, Pauline Frawley, Simone Walsh, Lorraine
Quinlan, Christine Hooppell, Julie Matthes, Katrina Trewin,
Robert Brown, Cameron Matthews, Bryon Coulson, Marg
Rasmussen, Colin Kellow, Hayley Gray, Frank Frawley,
Linda Belot, Gen Keenan and Beulah Brann.
This week Mr Neville Borger is a guest at the John Monash
School of Science in Melbourne, along with three of our Year
10 girls Rebecca Speight, Sarah Johnson and Greta Zegelin.
By all accounts the girls are having an excellent experience as
is Mr Borger. I‘m sure they‘ll have plenty to report back upon
their return. (Mr Borger is due back next week, the girls the
week after).
Funday is looming large on the horizon, only 22 days away.
Please contact members of our Parents Club if you wish to
contribute to our Monster raffle or feel you can contribute in
any other way.
Sadly theft has become an issue in our school over the past
few months. Staff are working vigilantly to identify the of-
fender or offenders.
In the meantime could I please ask parents to urge their chil-
dren not to bring valuables or money to school. If they must,
please leave them at the front office or use their lockers with
locks.

Start Smart
D uring the week we had a representative from The Start
Smart program come to the College to speak to the Year
10 students. This program changes the way young peo-
ple learn about money. By making money management interac-
tive, engaging and fun through a series of free workshops, we
equip students with the confidence and competence to make smart decisions about money.
Delivered by our national team of world-class facilitators, Start
Smart workshops make the learning experience accessible, moti-
vating and inspiring. Each year Start Smart reaches over
200,000 students making it the largest program of its kind
The Start Smart Secondary program consists of five different
workshops, each focusing on a different topic in depth: earning,
saving, spending, investing and decision making for the future.
Each workshop is an interactive learning experience that is de-signed to engage students and empower them in making their
personal financial choices.
Rochester Youth Group
R ochester Youth Action Group will be holding an Infor-
mation Session at the Rochester Secondary College on
Wednesday 15th August at 1 pm in the Conference
room.
Bring your ideas for projects and events that we could organise
in your community. Open to all students from Year 7—12.

Home Economics Careers Edu-
cation Show 2012
O nce again, Home Economics Victoria will be at the Edu-
cation Show this year to advocate for home economics
education. We will be at stand no. 49 and will be present-
ing a seminar on Home economics – a postgraduate teaching
course at 2.15pm on Friday 10 August. We invite all members to
come along and to encourage anyone you know who may be con-
templating a career in home economics. Friday 10 and Saturday
11 August, 10.00am to 3.00pm, Caulfield Racecourse

Intermediate Football
A n early morning bus ride saw the excited group of Year 9 and 10 boys accompanied by two teachers Mr Harris
and Mr Millard on the road to Swan Hill.
The first game was quite even but Rochester was able to get a
lead in the first half and hold on in the second half to secure a
win.
The final score Rochy 3.2.20 to 3.0.18.
Best on ground went to W. Lowe, R. Jensen, S. Rathjen and J.
Ward.
We then faced St. Joseph‘s Mildura who came out all guns
blazing and never looked back. Final score Rochy 0.1.1 to 6.4. 40.
Best on ground to L. Brown, W Lowe and R. Jensen.
The home team of Swan Hill took an early lead and were able
to hold off multiple attacks from the Rochester team.
Final Score Rochy 3.2.20 to 5.4. 34.
Best on ground to R. Jensen, D. Morgan and C. Taylor.
Sandhurst took a lead into the break but some motivational
words from our coach Mr Harris urged the boys to finish off
with a win.
Final Score Rochy 2.0.12 Sandhurst 1.2. 8. Best on Ground J. Milne, J. Ward and R. Jensen.

All the boys would like to thank Mr Harris and Mr Millard for
giving up their time and taking them to Swan Hill.

VTAC INFORMATION NIGHT
On Wednesday August 15th (7:30 start), a VTAC Information night will be held at the College for Year 12 students and parents to
explain the process required to apply for tertiary places, including important dates. Information provided will also include the Spe-
cial Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and scholarships. The information session will be held in Rooms 29/31.
VICTORIAN TERTIARY ADMISISONS CENTRE (VTAC)
VTAC Guides are now available for Year 12 students (available at Rochester Newsagency). You will use this resource when re-
searching and applying for tertiary courses. Applications open on Monday 6 August and timely applications (where you won‘t be charged a late fee) close on 28 September. Applications for courses are on-line and cost Year 12 students $26.00. You can apply
for up to 12 courses, placing them in the order you most want them. You will be offered the first course in your list for which you
meet the requirements.
TERTIARY OPEN DAYS - DATES
Open Days are your opportunity to check out institutions which interest you. You will have the chance to look at the facilities, talk
to staff and students, collect information and consider transport/accommodation options. They are generally run 10am to 4pm. Al-
low yourself an hour or two at each institution. Year 10 or 11 is a great time to commence visits.

ACCESS MELBOURNE SELECTION GUARANTEE ‘Access Melbourne’ provides education opportunities for students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Students who are eligible
for Access Melbourne and are from disadvantaged financial backgrounds or rural and isolated areas are guaranteed a Common-
wealth Supported Place (CSP) in their chosen course provided they meet course prerequisites and achieve the minimum ATAR: 78

Holy Trinity Anglican Church
The Rochester Anglican Church is again presenting their An-
nual Christmas Exhibition. This will be our 7th Exhibition and
we are extending an invitation to you to join in with another
exhibit of your own.
Our theme this year is ―The Light of the World‖. This event will be held on November 23rd to 25th at the Rochester Shire
Hall.
There will be the ever popular ―Letters to Santa‖ as well as
many other activities for children and entertainment for adults.
