Under normal conditions, the DC/AC GCU closes its excitation relay and the line contactor, so the DC/AC power supplies the DC/AC bus bar.

The DGCU is designed to be used with either Thales DC brushless generator/AC generator in generation mode or Thales starter-generator in starting mode and generation mode (DC). It maintains a constant generator output voltage (DC) and provides equal load distribution in a parallel generator system (DC). Additionally, the DGCU provides electrical network protections, starter contactor and generator line contactor control (DC) and Built-In-Test (BIT) functions.

Customer benefits

The DGCU is divided into two electrically independent parts:

■n The voltage and current regulation part with its modulator. This part uses analog devices.

Regulated Transformer Rectifier Units (RTRU). Thanks to its high level of R&D, Thales Avionics Electrical Systems have the ability to develop a new precursor product.

Thales Regulated Transformer Rectifier Unit (RTRU) converts the 3-phase 230 Vac variable frequency aircraft electrical power source to a 28 Vdc regulated power source. The RTRU includes regulation and protection functions.

■n The RTRU features a power modular design including six Power Factor Correctors (PFC) modules. Each PFC is made of one Flyback active-clamp power converter, controlled as power factor corrector. The RTRU is fully functional with one module failed (mode 5/6).

■n Optimized transformers designed with a planar technology allow a 100 kHz switching frequency.

■n The BCRU is designed to convert 235 Vac variable frequency to 32 Vdc using regulated AC to DC power conversion. Thanks to the power factor correction and regulated

output voltage, the BCRU allows weight savings on LVDC wiring and provides electrical performances improvement. Additionally to power LVDC bus, the BCRU has the possibility to

charge a battery through a dedicated power output for a fully integrated LVDC system on future aircraft.
