November 2017

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

E N R I C H M E N T W E E K 1 6 t h — 2 0 t h J U LY 2 0 1 8

What is Enrichment Week? During Enrichment Week, normal timetabled lessons will be suspended. Instead, a variety of

activities and trips will be organised by members of staff. These activities will develop cross-curricular themes and

dimensions and gives students an opportunity to enjoy a wealth of experiences beyond their normal curriculum. These

activities will also be fun and help promote the values of the Beckfoot learner.

Activities and trips on offer: There are a wide choice of activities to choose from and there is something for everybody. The

activities and trips are outlined in this booklet. Students should look through this booklet carefully with their parent/carer

and decide on their choices together. If you do not choose anything then your child will be allocated to an activity based on

availability. To avoid disappointment, it is important to meet the deadline below.

Residential information evening: For students considering a residential trip, it is a requirement that they attend the

enrichment week residential information evening on Thursday 9th November 2017 at 6pm where students, parents and

carers can ask trip leaders any questions. If parents and carers are unable to attend this event then please make Kim Rose

(Trip Co-ordinator) aware via email contact: [email protected].

Returning the Slip: When students have decided which activity they would most like to take part in, they should fill in the

Activity Request slip at the back of this booklet which should then be signed by their parent/carer. Please make three differ-

ent choices, the second and third choice being a reserve in case their first choice is already full or does not run due to limited

uptake. Then write down the codes of the activities, which can be found in the top left hand corner of the booklet. Forms

should be returned to the Student Facilities Office, in the central atrium at school, no later than Friday 10th November 2017.

The sooner the form is returned, the easier it will be for us to start planning and paying deposits for the trips. Any slips

returned after this deadline will result in the student not getting their chosen activity. Please do not send any money at this

stage.

Confirmation of trip place and payments: Once your child has been allocated a place (either on a residential or a non resi-

dential), contact will be made via text message with parents confirming which trip they are on and this will then appear on

your Parentpay account (see website). A deposit will then need to be paid no later than 1st December 2017 and four further

payments (see payment schedule on page 4). If you have any issues with this, then please contact Kim Rose.

Importance of good behaviour: All allocations are subject to continued good Attitude to Learning throughout the remainder

of the school year and students may lose their place, and any monies paid, if the school feels their safety and the safety of

other is compromised on the trip

Yours faithfully,

Gill Halls ([email protected]) Headteacher

Tom Darling ([email protected]) Assistant Headteacher

Kim Rose ([email protected]) Schools Trips Co-Ordinator

Pupil Premium

Please be aware that Pupil Premium funding will not be used to subsidise Enrichment Week trips (See the

Pupil Premium policy on the school website). Please take into consideration the cost of the trip/activity

when making your choice.

Range of Activities and Costings

This year we have made every effort to ensure that students have a wide range of activities to choose from,

that all curriculum areas are covered and that all budgets are catered for. These costs cover materials,

accommodation, transport and admission fees depending on the activity. I hope all parents/carers will be

able to support us in this exciting week, which is a great opportunity to extend our students’ experiences

beyond the normal curriculum. Payment plans for all trips can be found on the next page.

It is important that parents keep up date with the payment schedule as these coincide with the

payments school will be making to travel companies. Missed payments (unless contact is made

with the school) will be considered as non-commitment to the trip and will result in loss of place

and all previous payments made.

Duke of Edinburgh -Year 9s only

Please note students that have already chosen to do Duke of Edinburgh do not need to choose another

activity for Enrichment Week as they will be completing the expedition phase of their programme during

Enrichment week. These students will already be aware of this.

Commitment to a trip and non refundable deposits

Once students, parents and carers choose their activities they are committing to that activity. The school will

have already made financial commitments / deposits, in order to secure the bookings for accommodation,

transport, insurance and activities—as with any other trip booking.

The safety of our students is paramount on all trips, and unless we are advised not to travel by the Home

and Foreign Office, then the trip will still go ahead. As a result deposits are non refundable regardless of

changing personal circumstances or events in the news (including terror attacks.) It is crucially important

therefore that parents think carefully before committing to an activity, especially residential trips.
