To all our fine members
This will be my final letter to you as your Exalted Ruler.
When I decided to join the Elks eleven years ago, it was based on the
fact that life had been good to me and I felt it was time to give a little
back. What an amazing journey it has been. Working along side the
generous and dedicated members of our lodge in support of our
Veterans, Youth programs, and those in need in our community has
been truly inspiring.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Exalted Ruler
this past year. I am very proud of everything we have accomplished.
Our lodge continues to experience strong growth and break records
in contributions to ENF, Benevolent Trust, charity dollars raised and
increased membership. I am especially proud of the new programs
we our involved in. The Americanism Essay Contest and Veterans
Leather Hide Program.
It is great to see so many of our new members helping at our events,
chairing committees, volunteering for officer positions, and spending
time in our club room getting to know their fellow Elks. Our success
is not because of my efforts, but the efforts put forth by the dedicat-
ed members of this lodge. Again I would like to thank each and every
one of you for your support, encouragement, and patience this past
year. I could not have done it with out all of you.
For those of you not aware, let me introduce Jim Wall, your Exalted
Ruler elect. Jim and his lovely wife Lynn have been very active mem-
bers in our lodge. Jim has served on numerous committees, volun-
teered many hours on various events, and currently serves as an
officer. Jim along with his fellow officers will continue to lead our
lodge in the very positive direction we are going. Your 2014 and
2015 officers will be installed on Sunday, April 6th at 11:00 am with
lunch to follow. There will be a sign up sheet in the club room in
order to know how many will attend. Please join us for this special
event.

Celebrating Essay Contest Winners Visits the Lodge
Our first Americanism Essay contest was a success with 38 participants all
from the 6th grade at Meramec Valley Middle School – largely due to the
influence of Scott Kovis, Department Head of 6th Grade Language
Arts. Students were asked to write on “What Veteran’s Day Means to
Me”. Essays were judged on originality, development of theme, and mechan-
ics (grammar, spelling, etc.). The judges had a difficult time with so many
great entries; but the winners were:
1st – Kaylee Held - $100 iTunes card
2nd – Jaisie Kulick - $50 iTunes card 3rd – Jacqueline Tarabelli - $25 iTunes card
We would like to thank our judges Kathleen Meier, Fred Bunch, Brenda
Wilsey, and a special thanks to Melanie Cooper for not only judging but
creating the flyer as well.
The winning essays were forwarded on to the District level and have now
been judged there as well. Congratulations to Jaisie Kulick who has been
awarded 3rd place at the District level. Her essay will now be entered into
the State level competition. Please join me in wishing Jaisie the best of luck!
Thanks everyone!

Elks Care Astro comes to Eureka-Pacific Lodge 2644
Astro accompanies Reece wherever he
goes including school, church, and family
outings such as going to a movie. Reece is
still learning how to handle Astro on his
own so Mom and Dad take turns going to
the school a few hours each day until
Reece, Astro, and the school’s staff is
comfortable.
This story has a happy ending, one we can
all be thankful for. Astro is on the job
every day protecting young Reece and it
was made possible because of YOU. At
lodge 2644, the words Elks Care -Elks
Share are much more than a slogan, they
are a way of life!
Our January newsletter included a story about “Operation Reece”, the story of a local family
struggling to obtain an allergy alert dog for their son Reece. If you had an opportunity to read
the story you already know it has a very happy ending. During the lodge meeting on February
12th we had an opportunity to meet this amazing dog and the family he serves. The Grenhagen family including Chris (Dad), Jana (Mom), Lydia, Reece, Bennet, along with
their newest family member Astro, stopped by the lodge to extend their sincere thanks to
everyone involved. During the visit we heard firsthand the difference Astro has made in the
lives of this family.
