The Moon Festival The Chinese Moon Festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. It's also known as the Mid-autumn Festival. Chinese culture is deeply imbedded in traditional festivals. Just like Christmas and Thanksgiving in the West, the Moon Festival is one of the most important traditional events for the Chinese.

LegendThe Emperor ordered a famous archer “Hou Yi” to shoot down the nine extra suns because people couldn’t stand for the heat of ten suns. Once the task was accomplished, Hou Yi became the enperor. He became a tyrant in years and wish to be immortal, so he send his people to Kunlun Mountains to get the immortal pill from The Queen Mother. However, his wife wanted to save the people from her husband's tyrannical rule and found the pill, took it, Hou Yi did not have enough time to shoot her wife down, and she was banished to the moon as a result. Legend says that her beauty is greatest on the day of the Moon festival.

Taiwanese specially like to eat mooncakes and pomelos in this holiday. A mooncake isround like a moon, and pomelos are used for worshipping. Not only mooncakes but alsocrabs are popular because crabs are very rich in this season. People also love doing BBQparties while watching moon and enjoy the weather of fall.
