Test 4 Step 1: Provide the Information First view our Service Territory Map to determine the availability of electric service in your area. Determine the size of service you’ll need—either 100 amp, 150 amp, 200 amp or 400 amp. Determine the type of service you want—underground or overhead. If you will be heating with electricity, determine the total square footage of the area to be heated. Determine the date you would like electric service to begin. Fill out the new service order form for Electricity (pdf). Be prepared to provide the following information: o Your name, mailing address, phone number and daytime contact information o The address where electric service is to be delivered and specific directions, including the nearest intersection o The name, address and telephone number of your electrical contractor, if you are using one o The specifics about type and size of service as defined above o The date you would like electric service to begin Step 2: We'll Do Our Work Determine where the service will be connected to your home (for new service). Provide you with a "Certificate of Compliance to Minimum Insulation Standards." (This only applies if you are converting a home to electric heat.) Identify the owners of property on which we'll need rights-of-way and prepare the legal documents for same. (The responsibility to have these documents properly executed is yours). Schedule service hook-up to your house, after the receipt of an approved inspection certificate. Step 3: Do Your Work Complete the electrical wiring. Choose an authorized inspection agency (pdf) and get an application for electrical inspection. (Your local municipality can supply a list of authorized inspection agencies and an application form.) Provide us with a completed "Certificate of Electrical Inspection" from the authorized inspection agency. Provide us with a completed "Certificate of Compliance to Minimum Insulation Standards," if you are converting an existing home to electric heat. Provide rights-of-way for our facilities, as required. Pay any charges that might be required by National Grid. (The inspection agency will charge a fee for its service.)
