Our next WOM meeting will be August 13 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mission Room. We will have our missionary birthday calendar and then hear from Jack and Ada McCurry. They are the newest members of our church and have a very interesting story to share with us. For our August project we are going back to an old WMU tradition of supporting “Christmas in August” for a North American Mission Board missionary, Kale Booher. Below is a description of his ministry and the list of supplies requested. The deadline for collection will be August 25. Kale Booher and his family planted Lifepoint Church in Delaware, OH, three years ago on Easter Sunday. Since then, God has grown their church to over 400 people. Lifepoint has baptized more than 40 peo-ple to date, and has seen hundreds join small groups, serve on Sunday mornings, and take steps in faith. Lifepoint Church is located in a quickly growing city of over 40,000 people, and the county is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Ohio. The people at Lifepoint come from the city, the sub-urbs, and all around the county. The church is dedicated to teaching the Bible, drawing life from God, and pointing others to Him. Your Christmas in August gifts will serve the more than 100 children who are a part of the Lifepoint Kids (LPK) ministry every Sunday morning. Through LPK, the church seeks to teach children that God loves and made them and that Jesus wants to be their friend forever. Kale Boo-her and Lifepoint say, “We cannot say thank you enough!” Supplies requested are: glue sticks, clorox wipes, 3-ounce bathroom cups, goldfish crackers, ziplock bags, crayola markers, coloring books, colored construction paper. Please place your donations in the basket located at the elevator entrance.
Children’s Worship will resume this Sunday, August 11th. This will be for children in kinder-garten through third grade.
Our JustLead children’s ac-tivities will be starting up again on Wednesday, Au-gust 14th. We are in need of volunteers to help with the children’s Bible study sessions and in other areas. Please call the office or see Pastor Jeff is you feel led to help in this ministry.
Sunday, August 18th immediately following the business meeting!
Please bring a container of your favorite ice cream, gelato, sherbet, or frozen yogurt. Whipped cream and toppings will be provided!
Sunday, August 18th at 6:00 p.m.
Please join us next Sunday evening for our quarterly
business meeting. The meeting will be followed
by an ice cream social.
This Sunday will mark the 174th anniversary of Smithwood Baptist Church. Originally known as Adair’s Creek Church, Smithwood was founded on August 11, 1845, the same year the
Southern Baptist Convention was organized and Southern Baptist home and foreign mission boards were set up. Charter members John and Mariah Smith, for whom the Smithwood community is named, owned most of the land in the vicinity. On October 2, 1846, John Smith deeded the land for the church building and graveyard for the sum of one dollar. We are looking forward to celebrating our 175th birthday next August with our community.
