A thank you to Mrs Peters and her makeover crew who donated some of their treasured holiday time to paint the Ladies Lounge at the Club in preparation for the Year 12 Formal.

At our final assembly on the last day of Term 3 we said our good byes to our outgoing Year 12 and welcomed our new school leaders for 2019. Congratulations to Charly Mott and Charlotte Bartholomew who are 2019 School Captains. They have some big shoes to fill, but we are very confident they will take on their new leadership role with maturity and confidence.

A huge thank you goes to Leon Cashmere who donated his time in the last week of Term 3 to help us build the new fence around our Ag Plot. Not only did Leon give us his time but he also patiently taught our Ag students the required fencing skills.

Every once in a while, along comes a speaker who stands out from the crowd. Sam Bailey is one of those. A farmer, pilot, hus-

band and best-selling author, he has achieved all of those from a wheelchair and has an incredible ability to take an audience

on the journey of his life. It's a rollercoaster ride that promises to make people laugh, cry, appreciate what they've got and re-

alise that nothing is impossible.

From a childhood growing up in the Australian bush to a car accident in the outback that turned his life upside down and its

aftermath, Sam tells his story in his own down-to-earth laconic style that captures the great Australian spirit of 'having a go'

and he's changing the lives of people of all ages, from all walks of life.

He relates how he beat the odds to fulfill his life-long dream to be a farmer, learning to ride a four-wheel motorbike devising a

hoist to get into farm machinery and ultimately learning to fly an ultralight.

Sam then found his soulmate in former Tamworth – based ABC radio Rural Reporter Jenny Black – who he proposed to ‘live’ on

regional radio. The real-life proposal jammed the phone lines and the fax ran out of paper.

They appeared on ABC TV’s ‘Australian Story’ in 2000 with an overwhelming response and their book ‘Head Over Heels’ was

published in April 2006.

Today they live and work together on their beef cattle property in North West NSW, in between travelling the country telling

their story and giving inspiration to others.

They are also working towards their next big goal – Sam becoming the first quadriplegic in the world to fly a helicopter and fly-

ing into schools to inspire children to fulfill their own dreams and goals. The project is called Helifirst and will be launched in

2018. You can find out more information about Sam and Jenny at their website www.sambailey.com.au We look forward to

seeing you at Sam’s presentation on 24th October at HCS.

SRC Welfare Day “Wellbeing - the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy”

During the last week of term 3 the SRC hosted a Welfare Day for students and staff. The day involved many activities that

highlighted the importance of an individual’s wellbeing and how we can all make a difference in each other’s lives with a little

bit of help, friendship, care and support.

The day was divided into three sections. During session one we were fortunate to host a few professionals in their fields to

deliver wellbeing messages to our students. The secondary students received a presentation from the Police who focused on

Cyber Bullying and internet safety as well as a crew from Headspace Griffith who focused on mental health, depression and

anxiety. The secondary students were also addressed by local health worker Cass Mullins, who ran a presentation on healthy

eating and basic nutrition. While the secondary students were hearing from the experts the primary school K-5 were involved

in a bike safety training session which included, bike checks, bike safety and of course some bike track time which was set up

by staff and students in order for the students to put all their skills into practice. The bike activity morning was then topped off

by the Headspace crew who delivered a presentation on acceptance and empathy. A fantastic time was had by all.

During session two students participated in some fun team building challenges, this created a lot of excitement amongst the

students and developed their skills in communication and team work, skills essential for life and individual well-being.

Following lunch we welcomed another group of experts from the community into the school. These guests along with a

number of teaching staff, ran a variety of activities for the student body to be involved in. The activities included Archery,

Button Jewelry making, Relaxation, Gaming, Beauty therapy, Art making, Healthy Cooking, Lego Building, Scavenger Hunts,

Outdoor games and Boxing. This was a great way for students to relax and participate in activities that were fun and engaging.

A big thankyou to all of the staff at HCS for all your efforts in making the day a great success and of course a massive thankyou

to all of our visitors for giving up your time to be involved in our welfare day without you the day would not have been the

success that it was.
