PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Musica Viva
Last Wednesday afternoon all students from
Transition to Year 6 enjoyed the musical talents of
Zeeko in a highly entertaining Musica Viva concert.
The three-person band began the concert by
blowing tunes across bottle tops before moving on
to bass and acoustic guitars, body percussions and
a range of unusual instruments from around the
world. Zeeko’s music helps students to creatively
explore nature and the importance of caring for
our planet.
Toonschool
Another fantastic learning opportunity was
provided to the students at Newling last week
when we were visited by Joffa from Toonschool.
The students were able to develop their creativity
through the art of cartooning while building
personal qualities such as perseverance and
resilience. Every student produced three artworks
and took away many new skills.
Camp Quality Fundraising BBQ
On Wednesday, Newling will be holding a
fundraising barbecue to raise awareness and
money to support the wonderful work done by
Camp Quality. The day will commence with the
Camp Quality puppet show at 9:15 and a barbecue
lunch provided by the school P&C will be held at 1
pm. All lunches were to be pre-ordered to assist
with catering.
Regional Spelling Bee
Four students will participate in the Regional
Spelling Bee today after winning the school
Spelling Bee earlier this term. We wish Hayden,
Abby- Mae, Nahri and Holly all the best as they
travel to Glen Innes to compete against other
students in the region.
Mixed Soccer Knockout
Last Monday our mixed soccer team travelled to
Gloucester to compete in Round 4 of the PSSA
Small Schools Soccer Knockout. It was a long day
of travel and despite our students putting in their
best effort, we were defeated by Stroud. The
students were fantastic representatives of
Newling and we are very proud of their efforts.
Clothing and Belongings
As Spring has arrived and the weather is
changeable, many students are removing their
jackets and jumpers during playtime and some
students are forgetting to collect their clothing as
they move back to class. Unlabelled clothing is
difficult to return to the owners, so now is a great
time to check that your child’s clothing is clearly
labelled with their name.
Star Awards
“You’re a Star Award” certificates were presented
at this morning’s assembly to successful students
who have been using the You Can Do It keys to
success and demonstrating persistence,
resilience, organisation, getting along and
confidence.
Congratulations to our recipients: David, Jezekie
and Lincoln.
Lyn Bourke
Relieving Principal
We urgently need helpers to run our Canteen
every Friday.
Can you spare one Friday each term to help?
We want to keep having a canteen but without
people to help it might stop.
Please contact P&C – Joanne Tracey or Nancy
Smith - if you can help!

News From 3/4
Kindergarten and 1/2 News
Last Thursday Year 1/2 and Kindergarten were visited by the Toon Man. He showed us that
we can all be cartoon artists, all we need is a pencil and paper. We had a fantastic time.
News from 5/6
Once again Year 5/6 have some very busy
times ahead with lots of notes going home
and needing to be returned!
For those students who have not finalised
payment for the Coffs Harbour Camp
money is due by this Friday 13th
September.
For the month of September, the students in the 3/4 class will be demonstrating their culinary skills by testing out recipes that will increase their daily intake of fruit and vegetables. Please follow the newsletter each week to see what the recipe will be and keep an eye out on Facebook for some photos of our adventures in the kitchen. Feel free to try these recipes at home and let us know
what your family thinks of them.
