PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3, 2021. It has been so pleasing to see that our students and staff have settled back into school life with ease. I have had the chance to speak with many parents, grandparents and carers while at the school gate in the morning and afternoon and we all agree that we can’t wait for restrictions to ease enough to allow visitors back on site.

Reminders of Covid Restrictions

Non-essential visitors are not permitted in schools. This means, sadly, that parents are restricted from entering school grounds.

Parents must drop their children at the gate of a morning. You are not required to sign in using the QR code for this activity.

Parents will collect their children from either Waratah Ave gate or OOSH gate of an afternoon. You are not required to sign in using the QR code for this activity. Please ensure that your children know which gate to walk to at the end of the day.

Parents are reminded to maintain social distancing while waiting for their children in the afternoon. Please consider wearing a mask if you are unable to maintain social distancing.

Parent volunteers are unfortunately unable to assist in classrooms. Parent volunteers are able to work in the canteen and uniform shop with appropriate social distancing and

hygiene measures. Should parents need to collect their children before 3:00pm, you must call the school office on 49435695

before entering the school grounds. If you enter the school grounds, you are required to sign in using the QR code and sign the visitor's attendance book in the office.

Allied health partners, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, are able to come on site to work with their clients as per their community use agreement.

Scripture can still proceed.

Enhanced cleaning is in place.

PPE and hygiene supplies are in abundance at our school. All classrooms have sanitiser, soap and paper towel.

Attendance Attendance at school is important. All students should be at school unless they are unwell. The following information is important to know: Students must not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of Covid-19. The Department has

advised schools to send home any students exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. Students cannot return to school unless they have a negative Covid test AND are symptom free. Where students have other medical conditions with recurrent symptoms, a letter from the GP explaining this is sufficient and will minimise the need to have Covid tests.

Please be aware that staff are also restricted from being on site if they are unwell or have even mild symptoms of Covid-19. Unfortunately, this may result in classes not being taught by their regular classroom teacher from time to time.

Sentral for Parents Portal

Could I please remind families to register for our Sentral for Parents Portal. Once registered it is important that you link your child to your profile to ensure that you are getting all of our messages. I have noticed that a number of parents are missing out on messages because they are not linked to their children or are logged out of the app.

If you have any difficulties at all with the Sentral for Parents Portal, please contact our friendly office staff who will be more than happy to assist you.

Download the app from your relevant app store.

Ask our friendly office staff for the access key to your child/ren

You can also visit the browser version at: https://hps.sentral.com.au/portal

Kindergarten 100 Days of Learning

You may have seen many elderly students and teachers enter and leave our school yesterday. This was in celebration of Kindergerten’s first 100 days of learning. The students had the opportunity to dress up as though they were 100 years old and to participate in a range of activities all featuring the number 100. Judging by the happy faces and squeals of excitement and delight, a fabulous time was had by all.

Many thanks must go to Grandma Miller, Nanny Gero and Great Aunty Cambourn for all of their efforts in organising such a rich and engaging day of learning for our youngest students. Thanks also to the students for their eager participation in all of the students. Thank must also go to the parents and carers who put together some incredible costumes for their elderly students.

Thank you to the P&C

On behalf of our students and staff I would like to thank the P&C for their generous donation of a range of sports equipment. The list of equipment includes:

A full cricket kit

Futsal goals

Netball posts

This is an investment of over $1500 from the P&C. The P&C have also given an undertaking to assist with storage solutions once the new sports shed is constructed later in the year. I am so appreciative of the partnership and shared vision that the school and the P&C have.

Riding Bikes to School

Please stay tuned for some exciting information about students riding their bikes to school. In consultation with the P&C we have decided to allow bikes on site at school. We are awaiting installation of bike racks and the delivery of a bike safety program before we give blanket approval for students to ride their bikes and scooters to school.

It is important to note that strict conditions will be in place to ensure the safety of all students, staff and visitors with regard to bikes being on site at school. More information will be made available very soon.

Have a great week!

Cassie Bate-Barnier

Principal

The Premiers Reading Challenge is ending soon!! The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9.

There is still time to enter the books from the Premier's Reading Challenge List that your child has enjoyed.

https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

Students’ log in details are their school log in details e.g. [email protected] and their school password.

Mr Scott and Mrs Wilson will enter K-2 results. Students in years 3-6 will need to login in to the above website to enter their results.

Challenge closes for students: Friday August 20, 2021

P&C

The next P&C meeting will be Monday, 2 August 2021. This will be a zoom meeting. The information for this will be on

the HPS P & C Events facebook page.

ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND!
