PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
A huge thank you and congratula ons to all those who supported our recent school Trivia Night. It was a very
enjoyable and successful evening, and raised over $2000 to subsidise and support ac vi es and resources for
our Stage Three students. We would like to acknowledge once again all those who sponsored the evening and
donated prizes, and thank Mr Burke, Miss Ridgeway, Mrs Wilson and Mr Daniels (all the way from NEPS) for
their efforts.
Thanks again go to our amazing school community for their support of last week’s ‘Day for Damian’ raising
much needed funds for Damian Jobson, a young man with strong es to HPS, whose tragic accident has
affected many. Our school mu i day and cake stall earned just over $1000 for the family. ‘Rise for Damian’
wristbands are s ll available for $5 from our office.
Last week, I was lucky enough to a end Cardiff High School’s NAIDOC assembly with many of our Aboriginal
students. The assembly featured performances by the CHS Aboriginal dance group; a very powerful address by
guest speaker Donna Fernando; a music set by singer, Sharnie Kelly, and was followed by a ‘Food Fest’. Our
students really enjoyed the event and also loved seeing some familiar (if more grown up) faces over at the high
school.

& 4 students and one for Years 5 & 6 students. Students had to deliver a prepared speech selected from a list of topics and were also given limited prepara on me to deliver an impromptu speech. These can be challenging tasks in a high level compe on. We would like to congratulate and thank Miss Ridgeway for her work with this group; all the parents who have supported and played such a vital role in prepara on, and most of all our school representa ves Abigail B, Arabella M and Joshua M. We are enormously proud of you all.
Yesterday we had a visit from the Cardiff High School Rock Band who played for a very enthusias c audience in our school hall. The young band were amazing, with a host of very talented musicians and vocalists they played a full set that had our students tapping their feet and singing along. We even had two of our Year 5 students join them on stage for a song. This visit was part of our high school transi on ac vi es for our senior students who had the opportunity to talk with Mr Brown, Year 7 advisor in 2017 genera ng lots of enthusiasm for the great opportuni es Cardiff High offers.
In prepara on for our Cultural Day celebra on next term the commi ee has launched our bi‐annual Very Short Film Fes val Compe on. Students are encouraged to create a short film with the theme –Sports in Ac on. All entries will be showcased on Cultural Day 22nd July and prizes awarded. In staffing news, Mrs Alison Miller will take 12 months maternity leave from Week 4 next term. Mrs Miller’s posi on will be filled through an Expression of Interest. This process will be completed and a temporary appointment made in the first week of next term to allow for a comprehensive handover. Mrs Miller will be greatly missed by our whole school community but I am sure you join with me in wishing her and her husband all the luck and joy in the world and look forward to mee ng baby Miller in the near future.

SISTA SPEAK Last Wednesday we had the pleasure of being invited to Yamuloong to take part in a program called SistaSpeak. Here, we
par cipated in an Indigenous cultural session with other Stage 3 girls from other schools in our area. To begin, we were welcomed
by Cardiff High School’s dance group who performed tradi onal Aboriginal dances. We really enjoyed watching the girls and are
excited to one day get the opportunity to be a part of this group. We then played games to get to know each other and we found it
amusing how many things we had in common. Finally we were treated with scones, muffins and cream that were made with
Lemon Myrtle and Lemon Seeds while we took a na ve bush tucker walk through the grounds. We are looking forward to our next
meet.
CHS NAIDOC Celebrations Last Thursday, all HPS Koori students went to Cardiff High School to take part in their NAIDOC Celebra ons. We a ended an
assembly where we watched Aboriginal performances and listened to speeches from notable Aboriginal people within our
community. There was also a local lady who performed songs that she wrote. We finished the event by a ending a FoodFest where
we tried soup and bread.
