Term 1 Week 10 Thursday 4 April 2019 From the Principal RIPPLES 38 Maine Rd, Clontarf, 4019 [email protected] Ph. 32830011, Fax 32830012 www.graceprimary.qld.edu.au Absentee Line: 3283 0088 [email protected] SMS: 0427016460 Engage - Educate - Excite New Chaplain appointed We welcome Mrs Grace Denny who is our new government funded Chaplain at Grace Lutheran Primary School. Grace is a qualified teacher who is studying her masters degree at QUT this year. She has experience with Christian communities and with pastoral care initiatives in schools and we look forward to her sharing with our students over the coming months. Grace will be here at school on Fridays (all day) and on Wednesdays from 11:30am. ANZAC 2019 Grace Lutheran Primary School annually hosts an ANZAC service and this year our service will be held on Tuesday 23 April at 8:40am (therefore it will be our first activity for the term.) Our idea of hosting it so early in the term is so that the teachers can do follow up lessons with our students prior to Anzac Day which is on the third day back of Term 2. Also, the School Captains and I attend the GLC College ANZAC service which will be held on Wednesday 24 April. The Primary School and College Services are open to the public so if you would like to attend you are most welcome. On Thursday, 25 April each year, about 60 of our students from Prep to Year 6 gather at the round-about near the Mon Komo hotel to march in the Redcliffe Anzac Day March. We meet at 9am and the march begins at 9.30am. The march concludes at the corner of the Redcliffe Parade and Klinger Road and we take the students to the carpark opposite the court house, next to the ANZAC memorial area. We ask that no parents march with our students and that once you have left your children with the staff who accompany the march, you watch the parade then meet us at the carpark to take your children home. For consistency of uniform we ask that all students wear their SPORT UNIFORM for this march and ensure they wear a hat and sunscreen. Please ensure correct shoes are worn. The College students and staff march with us and it is a wonderful community event which I encourage you to participate in. If you have any questions about the ANZAC events for Grace Lutheran Primary School, please contact me at the office. Happy Easter I always see Easter as the most important Christian Festival in the church calendar. The death and resurrection of Jesus is remembered at this time. Our students enjoyed a fun day of Easter activities on Thursday 4 April culminating with a concert by Colin Buchanan. Grace Church will be holding services over the Easter season and if you want to attend with your families, this is a particularly beautiful time of the year in churches. On Palm Sunday, the week before Easter the church will honour the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the sadness and solemness of Jesusdeath is evoked and then on Easter Sunday the excitement and joy of Jesusresurrection is celebrated. An emotional few days for Christians borne out in churches throughout the world. The Easter Services times are listed in our Ripples newsletter for your interest. At this special time of year, I do wish your family a restful and reflective Easter holidays and I look forward to seeing all our families back in Term 2. Trudy Moala, Principal

with pastoral care initiatives in schools and we look forward to her sharing with our students over the coming months. Grace will be here at school on Fridays (all day) and on Wednesdays from 11:30am.

Pastor’s Message

One of the great blessings that can exist in many families is sitting at the meal table. This can be a time of great joy and sharing. It is a gift to sit with one’s children and grandchildren.

The Bible has many stories of people sitting together at mealtime. The Gospel for this Sunday (John 12:1-8) is the account of Jesus visiting the home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus. But several incredible things happen at this meal. Mary anoints Jesus’ feet and wipes His feet with her hair. She did this with a very expensive perfume. And this was Mary’s way of saying ‘Thanks’ to Jesus. Sitting at the table was Lazarus, Mary’s brother, whom Jesus had raised from death. Imagine sitting at a meal table with someone who had been raised from death! This was so incredible that the Bible records that crowds also gathered to catch a glimpse of Jesus and Lazarus.

Over the school holidays the Christian Church around the world will be celebrating Easter, remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus. This is truly good news, as this changes the way we look at the whole of life, and the world we live in, and our relationships with one another. As we prepare to celebrate the sacred mysteries of Holy Week and the Passion of Our Lord, let us remember that at the heart of it all is the simple truth: God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Jesus gave himself lavishly, generously, completely for the sake of the world.

As you celebrate meals together, remember also that Jesus is with us. May God’s blessings be with you at this time of year.
