The event will feature a wide variety of activities, from bouncy castles to helicopter rides. Building on the classic sau- sage sizzle, the event will also feature meatballs, Whakatohea mussel fitters and more. “This is going to be a wonder- ful event,” co-ordinator Michelle McWatters said. Prizes and hampers will also be up for grabs over the course of the afternoon, with all pro- ceeds from the event going towards purchasing new read- ing resources for the school. “We are really excited to be hosting this event and I hope the whole community will come along and take part.” Tenants treat trustees JAMES SANDBROOK TENNANTS of the Richard Street Rangimarie Trust put on an after- noon tea for their landlords on Tuesday. Four of the trustees, including chairman Rangi Williams, were able to attend the Christmas- themed event, organised entirely by the tenants. “We’re doing this for the trust because they take such good care of us,” resident Donna Neria said. Ms Neria spearheaded the organisation, assisted by the other tenants in the trust units, and went all out with Christmas decorations to liven up the after- noon. Another resident, Helga Bidlake, said they put on the meal for the trustees “to say thank you for everything they do for us”. This is the first time the tenants have organised an event for the trust, and the day was improved by the rain letting up just before the meal. “It’s really nice that the ten- ants put this on for us,” Rangi Williams said. The trustees were treated to salads, seafood and more, fol- lowed by dessert and a secret Santa gift exchange to finish off. The trust has built and main- tained the 12 Richard Street units over several decades, with the idea of helping elderly or disabled tenants find affordable, quality housing. “It’s a real community, every- one looks after each other,” said trustee Lorraine Steele. WOODLANDS’ annual school gala is ready to go ahead this afternoon, featuring food, family fun and more.

The event will feature a wide variety of activities, from bouncy castles to helicopter rides.

“We’re doing this for the trust because they take such good care of us,” resident Donna Neria said.
