Dear Parents, All students and teachers are now finalising exams and reports for Semester 1. Students will also be receiving feedback on results and beginning work for Semester 2. Reports will be written next week – our last week of the term. I am confident students were well prepared in order to do their best. The Year 12 results achieved will contribute towards their Senior Exit results and form a large part of the assessment used to rank them within their subjects later in the year. It is important all students continue to aspire and achieve the best possible academic outcome. The effort each student is prepared to take is what makes the difference. Year 12 students continue after exams on vital work in order to ensure they are best placed on exit from secondary school. It is essential all students are in attendance. Our Year 12s completed their second QCS Test Practice following the exams yesterday and today. This is fundamental preparation for students who wish to sit the QCS Test in Term 3. There was also a compulsory Certificate 1 Workshop for non-QCS Year 12 students over these last two days. Our continued focus on student effort combined with the articulation of high academic expectations are major factors that ensure great outcomes for our Wavell students. The Year 12 2014 results, published on the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website last month, are testament to this work. The 93% Queensland Certificate of Education attainment, 75% of OP 1-15, 19 Certificate IV, 48 Certificates III and 20 School -based Apprenticeships, are a reflection of the work of our students, teachers, and parents. This has enabled Wavell to demonstrate some outstanding graduate results. Please view the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority link for our full results and those of all other schools at http://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/ downloads/publications/qcaa_stats_yr12_ outcomes_14_all_schools.pdf Report cards for all students will be posted home at the end of this semester and will be accompanied by booking information for the Parent Teacher Night on Tuesday, 21 July from 3.30 to 7.30pm. Details on the School Opinion Survey will be included with the mail out. Wavell is genuinely interested in feedback from families and your effort to complete the online survey would be appreciated. The QParent trial conducted in Term 2 with families of Year 7 and 8 students has been very successful. An invitation is now open to all families to access this online system. At the upcoming Parent Teacher night there will be a QParent kiosk set up to assist families to register. I would also like to remind families to finalise any outstanding school resource and text charges and subject levies before the end of term. We have many exciting school activities for the final week of term including Year 7 Camp, Year 10 Work Experience, and work experience for some Senior Certificate courses. School continues for all other students up to and including Friday, 26 June. Please ensure your child understands that every day at school counts. I expect all students to be in full attendance and engaged in learning until the very last day of term. Parents are expected to support this requirement and any legitimate absence explained by a note or phone call to the school. Year 9 students will be involved in assessable tasks on our second Science Day, to be conducted on Thursday, 25 June. This is a compulsory event for Year 9 students. Year 8 students have this week, participated in Business Day. This is designed to assist them understand the range of valuable business subjects. Please ensure any outstanding enrolment forms for Year 7 are submitted by the end of term. Encourage any friends thinking of attending Wavell in 2016, to lodge their enrolment application as soon as possible. School tours are available on request by phoning our Enrolment Officer, Ms Sandy Lock, on 3350- 0328. Market Day

Once again Market Day was a resounding success with forty-five stalls wonderfully decorated. The new location combined with music and a large crowd added to the carnival atmosphere. Many stalls sold out and all groups made a profit largely due to delicious products such as slices, churros, mocktails, toffee apples, brownies, fudge, fruit punch and cupcakes. Each group must be congratulated for their efforts in developing a thorough loan application, business plan, marketing campaign and operational plan. Our winners for the best stall display in Year 9 were Island Iced Tea (Clinton Horne, Ofa Vaomotou, Adjani Shortland-Mika and Myleah Tabualevu); in Year 10 the Churros Bar (Bianca Goding, Shana Santos, Ella Crossingham and Melissa Pritchard-Malaki). Finally, the Year 11 Certificate III Business students must be congratulated on organising this large event and running the very successful sausage sizzle stall. Pictured below at La Boutique De Fudge stall are Michka Campos, Lucy O’Donovan and Alainya Doyle

Expand Your Mind

Earlier this term, fifteen students from Wavell participated in Expand Your Mind, a STEM activity day for Year 9 students conducted by the QMEA. Students participated in three challenges – a water conservation task, an extraction process and a catapult construction. A number of speakers were also present to share their job experience and the study journey they followed to get to where they are today. Pictured Maxim Monakhov and Madison Ward

Netball Super Sevens

On Friday, 29 May, six teams from Wavell competed at the Super Sevens Carnival held at Caboolture Netball Association. The competition was successful with Wavell taking out the Championship with first place, Reserve - second place, Intermediate A - third place, Intermediate B - first place, Cadets A - second place, Cadets B - second for team 6. Behaviour and effort on the day were exceptional and our students represented Wavell well. Thank you to all the Senior students for their assistance.

Rugby League Games

It was a huge week of Rugby League games last week with the Grand Finals of the Aspley Broncos competition once again dominated by Wavell teams. Our Year 7 Reds defeated Bray Park 62-0, Open 3s (pictured) defeated Bray Park 42-16, and Year 9 Blues won on a forfeit to wrap up their respective titles. Congratulation boys. The Year 8 Blues were unlucky not to take home some silverware after drawing 18-all. Unfortunately Bray Park scored first and were declared the winners. In our other competitions, there were some big margins against St. Mary's Toowoomba. Year 8 Red won 74-0, while the Year 9 Reds went 2 points better to win 76-0. On Wednesday the 10 Reds lost to Coombabah 28-16, 10 Blues went down to Keebra Park 2s 28-14 and Open 1s won a tough tussle against Coombabah 24-16. Well done to all teams. Finals are approaching and all teams are well placed.
