Due to more heat compared to last year, the numbers dropped marginally against the previous year. However, the spare time is being used in training of staff.
We have procured a new B scan machine. The old one was giving more trouble. It was more than 7-8 years old machine.
Dr. Rahul – retina specialist left us – he did not even complete one year. One more bad experience.
Dr. Sonia Kothari performed five corneal transplants including one DSEK procedure on 7th April. She has provided funds also through Vision Foundation of India for
procuring corneas from CDS for poor patients. It was for the first time that five corneal transplants were done on one day.

NETRAJYOTI TRAINING CENTRE
Dr. Akshat and Dr. Priyanka have completed their one year fellowships in cornea and retina respectively. Dr. Priyanka is our first retina fellow. We are happy to note that
both of them will work for two more years with us.
Dr. Shubhangi Kosta from Charusat hospital, Changa came for one month fellowship in SICS.
Lab. Technicians and pharmacists from four CHCs selected for the DR project came for one week training in DR activities during the month.
Soft skill training of second batch of our staff was organised with the help of Dr. Nileshbhai Thakore. This batch also enjoyed the way the training was conducted in a
very interactive and informal manner. We hope that staff will put the learnings of this training in to practice.

Mr. Amol Bhaalerao, CSR head, Fullerton and Mr. Sabitra Kundu from Mission for Vision visited Mandvi and Vyara to take a review of
the activities. We have taken a few steps to strengthen the co ordination between our teams and plan camps better. They were satis-
fied with the performance of the centre and are considering support for this year also.
Dr. Uday attended the meeting with the ministry organised by PHFI at Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi. It was a good experience and good
to know what is happening at other centres. As usual, Dr. GVS Murthy sir and Dr. Tripura were very cordial. Ministry officers also ap-
preciated the efforts under the project. Our initiative to give incentive to ASHA workers was appreciated.

Due to heat, the response to the camps has gone down substantially. The team is trying hard to keep the momentum
going.
Camps in the service area of Vyara are also being conducted regularly now.

Umarpada centre was already connected through telemedicine. Now, the DVR is also connected and so, we can monitor the work at
Umarpada from here. Soon, the Dediapada and Sagbara centres will also be connected through telemedicine.
NETRANG, JHANKHVAV AND VYARA SATELLITE CENTRE:
Daily 5-10 patients are seen using telemedicine at Netrang, Vyara and Jhankhvav.
However, just like the base hospital, surgical work has gone down at these centres also.
One major change that we did was to post one of our sincere OAs and his wife – our OPD incharge nurse to Vyara. They have gracefully
agreed to go there which is away from their native. We hope that the work will get boost through this step.

After extensive field work for door to door fundus photography, we have been able to capture almost 55000 individual’s fundus photos.
There were approximately 60000 individuals. We have discontinued the door to door drive. Now, we have asked the team to list those who
are left out. We will target them separately. Data entry and reporting will be done now.
One more round of follow up of those whose blood sugar had come abnormal was done.

Local donor sponsored trip to Ambaji for all the blind children. They enjoyed the same very much. Children went all the way to the top with-
out any problem.
Towards the end of the month, children have gone home for vacation. However, they will go to Jhagadia between 11-13 May for the shibir.
