To celebrate Veterans’ Day students invited veterans they know for breakfast and then an assembly to honor the guests. After opening remarks by Principal Jay Burkholder, the entire student body also joined together in singing “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “God Bless America.” Next, several students read the different messages they wrote about what Veterans’ Day meant to them.

After enjoying breakfast with their honored guests, the students at New Carlisle Elementary presented their Veterans’ Day program. The ceremony began with Principal Kathryn Oakes welcoming everyone and members of Boy Scout Troupe 220 presented the flags along with the high school Color Guard. Next, several students spoke about what Veterans’ Day means to them, then choir director Melissa Willardson led the students in singing “Proud to be an American.” Lastly, the veterans each told a little about him/herself and said which student invited them.

Mr. Becker is a local businessman who served in the Air Force from 1990-93 during Desert Shield and Desert Storm and helped in the U.S. humanitarian aide effort that benefitted the Kurdish people. Honors Choir is a voluntary OMEA event that students were able to perform in with a recommendation from their teacher. They had three weeks of independent practice, 2-6 after school rehearsals with their choir teacher, Mrs. Lombard, and then combined with students from five other schools for 7.5 hours of intense rehearsal over the weekend with clinician Rev. Dr. Donna Cox from the University of Dayton. They performed a free community concert on Saturday, November 9 at Stebbins High School to finish the experience.

Tecumseh FFA members attended the National Convention with their teachers Todd Vehorn and Meagan Wise the last week of October. On the way to Indianapolis they stopped in Piqua and received a tour and samples at Winans Chocolate and Coffee. Once at the convention the 12 students got to experience all kinds of different things, including a concert by Brett Young and attending a rodeo.

The cast of the fall play presented three well-known Edgar Allen Poe selections: The Black Cat, The Raven and The Telltale Heart. The creepy tales made for an entertaining evening for audience members on Nov. 15 & 16.
