It’s a jewel of Southwestern Ontario, a town that is as urban as it is pastoral, an idyl-lic residential community with a wealth of fashionable boutiques, renowned restaurants and picture-perfect landscapes surrounding stunning homes. Its quaint, charming beauty is splendidly matched by the beauty of Lake St. Clair which serves as its backdrop; resi-dents and visitors alike are enchanted by this exquisite small town, every day of the year. It isn’t a surprise, then, that many are drawn to the town for its sports fields, pickle ball and tennis courts and skate park, as well as its nu-merous asphalt trails that wind through two and a half acres of lush land.

The town has been hailed for its exciting

festival season; in 2014 it was named by Fes-tival and Events Ontario as the province’s “Best Festival City” for a town with a popu-lation of fewer than 200,000. Even without provincial recognition, the town’s growing number of volunteers is eager to keep up their reputation as a festival destination, and plans to make 2016 as memorable as every year be-fore.

Kicking the summer season off are the Vic-toria Day Weekend Fireworks, held May 22, followed by a fishing derby and skateboarding event in June. The International Dragon Boat Festival returns in July, while the Tecumseh Corn Festival – the town’s loving adieu to summer – will be held on August 25 to 28. In mid-September, Lakewood Park hosts the town’s first Disc Golf Tournament.

It’s one of the most celebrated festivals in Southwestern Ontario, an award-winning event that draws in about 40,000 people a year.

The Tecumseh Corn Festival returns this summer to celebrate its 41st anniversary. Held on August 25 to 28, the festival is a labour of love. Led a committee of 12 volunteers, including two town councillors who act as a liaison between the committee and the town, “this event is iconic and traditionally marks the end of summer,” says chair David Lozin-sky. “It’s really part of the fabric of the town of Tecumseh.”

With renowned musical talent, a Carter mid-way carnival, a classic car show, corn eating contest and the Miss Tecumseh pageant which

kicks off festivities, the festival draws in thou-sands of visitors from around Windsor-Essex and the United States. “We work tirelessly to make this a memorable event for everyone,” says Lozinsky, “and we know we couldn’t do it without the volunteers, the sponsors and the visitors.” Last year, Lozinsky said, a gener-ous donation by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach allowed the festival to introduce a giant corn maze, which “became a real focal point in the midst of the interactive family area. It’s stuff like that that makes this a really extraor-dinary event.

“(The festival) continues to encourage a sense of community,” he continues. “It’s an occasion for the whole community enjoy wholesome family entertainment.”

“At Ease is about fashion, style and com-fort,” says owner Dean Short. “We’re also about bringing you the finest attire available in the Windsor area.”

For years, At Ease has been the fashion conscious man’s favourite stop, and for good reason. With luxury brands like Paul & Shark, Green Coast, Paul Bentley and Stenstroms, there’s no store better equipped to dress a man in contemporary apparel by renowned interna-tional designers.

For summer, At Ease is thrilled to be stock-ing its shelves with a large collection of Peter Millar, a line known for wearable colour and luxurious details. “The hallmark of the brand is that classic, old world style,” says Short. “It’s sharp, it’s detailed, and it’s made of the highest quality materials.”

The store is also a stockist for Tommy Ba-hama, known continent-wide for its comfort-able, hassle-free designs. Short says Tommy Bahama is made for the laid-back man who likes a relaxed fit. “This is for the guy who doesn’t want to be wearing that slim-fit button down,” he remarks.

Short is also introducing a number of new brands to the store, including a line of casual pants by Gardeur, a German designer exclu-sive to At Ease. With trim and relaxed fit, the line is priced more competitively than others of the same caliber. He’s also carrying Saxx, an underwear brand made with patented inter-nal mesh material that Short says “is flying off the shelves. I’ve had one customer come in and say he threw out every other pair he owned and replaced it with all Saxx.”

Windsor Ravioli was established in 1961, and for half a century has been beloved by Windsor-Essex residents for its delightful pas-tas. Four years ago, Lucio Franceschelli pur-chased the legendary business and rebranded it Cara Pasta, named after the product developed by its previous owners.

Originally located on Dougall Avenue, Franceschelli – who emigrated from Italy just a decade ago - moved the business to Amy Croft Drive in Tecumseh, where it continued to flourish. The pasta house attracts thousands of customers a year, who love their preserva-tive- and colour-free selections. “We use the best ingredients on the market, and make it fresh every day,” says Franceschelli. “This is the most natural pasta you can find – it’s as close as you’ll get to pasta you would get from a town in Italy.”

With items like tortellini, fettuccine, fusilli and gnocchetti sardi, Cara Pasta is a pasta-

lover’s heaven. The store also offers a number of ravioli varieties, including lobster, ricotta and spinach, butternut squash, seafood, jumbo cheese, veal and chicken. They also carry la-sagna and cannelloni, as well as wood oven pizza.

As close as you can get to Italy Shoe Box moves to new locationWhen Claudine Thibodeau first arrived to

the shoe industry in 1960, she couldn’t wait to express her passion for shoes by opening her own shoe store. Always fascinated by fashion, Thibodeau’s desire was to help her customers look good, while still feeling comfortable.

For Thibodeau, it wasn’t just about well-fitting shoes – it was about the way a woman looked and felt in those shoes.

In 1989, Thibodeau established the original Windsor Shoe Box, located in downtown Wind-sor. Her store became a fashionista’s favourite, which was well-stocked with the highest qual-ity shoes from throughout Europe and Canada.

Her exceptional service and chic fashion sense made Thibodeau and her store a house-hold name, and customers continued to flock to the Shoe Box even when it made the move to the Tecumseh Towne Plaza at 1614 Lesperance Rd. in Tecumseh.

On April 1, the Shoe Box made the move to a

brand new store within the same plaza. Now located at 1640 Lesperance Rd.,

Thibodeau continues to carry some of the world’s most sought after shoe brands, includ-ing Aquatalia, Frye, Geox, Kenneth Cole , as well as many more.

Thibodeau is overjoyed to introduce various lines of active wear, for going from the office to the gym, as well as an impressive variety of dressy and casual apparel must-haves for wom-en. She’s also thrilled to welcome her second season of Sportalm golf wear.

This year, the Shoe Box won the Best of Windsor Essex Best Shoe Store award. Thibodeau continues to delight and impress her customers with her amazing sense for fashion. Let her and her staff show you all her amazing apparel and footwear. Claudine focuses on be-ing stylish without having to compromise on comfort. Come in now to see this fabulous new store.

Shedding Fat and Toning Flab with Exclusive

Zerona Treatments

BY KAREN PATEN-EVANS

Able to shop in their own closets for clothes they never thought would fit again, local cli-ents are losing weight, toning flabby skin and improving their health with the Zerona Cold

Laser, exclusively avail-able locally at Tecumseh Laser Centre.

Not knowing what to expect, Donna felt reas-sured by TLC staff’s ex-pertise. “Although I had my doubts about Zerona working, I was desperate to try something,” she says. Just four treatments

put Donna into pants she had outgrown. After treatment nine, “I had lost almost 21 inches in various places on my body including my arms, legs, around the bra line (no more bulges under the bra), my hips, stomach and my waist where I lost four inches!”

Mary celebrated her sixtieth birthday slimmer and trimmer after losing 15 ½ inches with 12 Zerona treatments. “I feel great and am now ready to continue with a healthy lifestyle including an exercise plan and healthy eating. Zerona has given me the jump start I needed to embark on my journey,” she says. “I am planning a vacation at the end of next month and I am actually looking for-ward to wearing a bathing suit. My back fat is practically gone and my tummy has shrunk considerably!”

Vilma loved her Zerona treatments, “a

simple, painless and relaxing way to lose weight.” She says, “In addition to losing inches and pounds week after week, I slept better, no hot flashes and overall, felt happy and healthy. I lost over 15 inches overall throughout my body in four weeks!”

By combining Zerona sessions with Venus Legacy treatments to target cellulite and aging, sagging skin, Vilma reports, “I got rid of those stubborn extra inches that were hard to target. The skin was re-juvenated, bringing back the elasticity and collagen. Friends and family tell me that I look much younger, more refreshed and have smoother, firmer skin!”

Clients may also be healthier. Joanne Duff, laser technician and owner of Tecumseh Laser Centre, says, “Cardiac surgeons in Toronto started a trial to see why so many of their patients didn’t need surgery after undergoing Zerona treatments. The reason is heart patients can lose harmful fat without stress-

ing their bodies through strenuous exercise. The company that makes the Zerona developed two new diodes to directly target belly fat. I was the first in Canada to pur-chase the new diodes.”

A bonus is the mood-boosting endorphins re-

leased during Zerona treatments, resulting in happier, healthier and thinner clients.

In 2012, a small new store opened quietly in Tecumseh, where visitors were invited to expe-rience a fresh bold taste. Dressed By An Olive, owned by husband and wife team Daniel and Merja Avena, offered high quality extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars in unexpected flavours like wild mushroom and sage, blood or-ange, dark chocolate and lemongrass mint.

With a passion for food and a history in ho-tel and hospitality, the couple wanted to bring

to this area the tastes they discovered dur-ing travel, which led them to opening this premium olive oil tasting room. The business was met with much fanfare,

and today boasts two locations: one in South Windsor on Dougall Avenue, the other on Man-ning Road.

Much has evolved for the couple and their thriving business in the last four years.

“We’ve expanded into a kitchen, and we’re doing tasting workshops,” says Merja. “We wanted to add a social aspect… we want people to talk about olive oil and experience a sensory evaluation.”

Merja explains that guests are invited to scheduled workshops to learn about various ol-ive oils from around the world. “You can learn how to distinguish each fruit from its taste and texture. Olive oil from California will be differ-ent from that of Portugal or Spain or Italy. Each olive oil has a name, each has its own evalu-ation. We’d like people to train their nose and distinguish what they’re smelling.

“It’s like wine tasting… but with oil.”The store has also expanded into seafood.Having lived in Vancouver, where the couple

enjoyed fresh seafood sourced from local fisher-men, the two were eager to distribute fine sea-food for this region. So they turned to a familiar name – Organic Ocean – and are now selling certified organic, hook and line-caught seafood selections like sockeye salmon and albacor tuna.

Windsor Tent & Awning Inc was founded in 1896; Manny Farao took ownership in 1991 and has now been with the company for over three decades. Windsor Tent and Awning’s fascinating legacy is carried on by Farao, one of the company’s most dedicated employees in its century-long history. With his work ethic and attention to detail, as well as his inimitable desire for excellence, the company has contin-ued to thrill thousands of customers with its quality workmanship and superior service.

Windsor Tent & Awning’s award-winning awnings have helped numerous customers lower their energy bills and reduce their in-terior temperatures. It has been proven that awnings on windows and doors can reduce interior temperatures between eight to 15 de-grees, although the exact amount of heat re-duction depends on various factors. “The fab-ric we use almost exclusively is Sunbrella™ awning fabric,” says general manager Crystal Hubley, “which is a solution-dyed acrylic fab-

ric, (and) has a 10 year warranty.” With such highly regarded product, clients are pleased with the durability and ease of maintenance on the company’s awnings. Windsor Tent & Aw-ning is also well known for its custom-made pieces, including window awnings, retractable awnings and canopies that can be turned into outdoor rooms.

Savvy Boutique has long been the local fashionista’s go-to boutique. As a stockist of internationally recognized brands like Nicole Miller and Ted Baker, owner Lisa Pa-rete knows just what a girl wants.

Here, Parete shares her tips with Tecumseh Life readers on the season’s hottest trends and how to freshen up your look for the spring and summer.

TL: What are the major trends coming up this season?

LP: They’re showing a ton of denim on denim. A lot of people will say, “I can’t pair this!” But you totally can. You can do it if you mix tones, like white denim pants with a light denim top. Denim has always been strong for us, and this look is really fresh. It works – you just have to break it up.

TL: What about accessories?LP: Crystals. Everyone

thinks crystal is dressy, but it can actually be really versatile. Pair it with a T-shirt and you’re good to go. We’re carrying Ca-

nadian Rebecca Price, and we also picked up Dean Davidson, who is up for Designer of the

Year. His jewelry is always worn by Sophie Trudeau, who wore it on her visit to

the White House. TL: What are your tips on re-

vitalizing your wardrobe for spring and summer?

LP: You can always freshen up with a scarf. The little black

dress is a mainstay, but I suggest going with a little nude dress this

year – just make sure you find the right nude, which is neither too pink or too brown. Florals, but-terflies or dragonflies are a big trend. You can also add some great little tees from Ted Baker. We’re getting away from graph-ics and simplifying with soft white linen, which Dex is also offering at a good price point. Also, there’s so much boho this year, a 70s inspired look that is really fresh. I also suggest white denim and a great floral pump – that’s a great way to get into the season.

ZERONAEXCLUSIVE TO

WINDSOR AREAI am a 57 year old woman that is thrilled to announce that I lost 16” of fat in just 3 weeks with the Zerona.Prior to these treatments nothing I did was working.Thank you Tecumseh Laser Centre & your wonderful staff.-Debra WAlthough I had my doubts about Zerona I was desperate to try something so I purchased a package of ninetreatments. I was measured before I started and went three times weekly for 3 weeks. After 4 treatments, I wasmeasured again and I knew I had lost inches because I could get into pants that I couldn’t do up prior to starting thetreatments. The results were amazing. After my last treatment I was measured again and I has lost almost 21” in various places on my body including myarms, legs, around my bra line, my hips, stomach and best of all my waist where I lost 4”!Needless to say I am thrilled with the results and am looking forward to having a few more treatments to help mereach my goal. Thanks to Joanne, Amy & Sam for your kindness, discretion and help through this. You are great!!!-Donna R
