Table 4 - Classes for safety performance
Class Explanation/examples
Negligible risk No material dislodged during test, andNo damage likely to lead to materials falling subsequent to test, andNo sharp edges produced that would be likely to cause severe injury to a personduring impact, and
Cladding not penetrated by impactor.
Low risk Maximum mass of falling particle 50g, andMaximum mass of particle that may fall subsequent to impact 50g, andNo sharp edges produced that would be likely to cause severe injury duringimpact.
Moderate risk Maximum mass of falling particle less than 500g, andMaximum mass of particle that may fall subsequent to impact less than 500g, andCladding not penetrated by impact, andNo sharp edges produced that would be likely to cause severe injury duringimpact.
High risk Maximum mass of falling particle greater than 500g, orCladding penetrated by impact, orSharp edges produced that would be likely to cause severe injury during impact.

Table 5 - Classes for serviceability performance
Class Definition Explanation/Examples
1 No damage. No damage visible from 1m, andAny damage visible from closer then1m unlikely to lead to significantdeterioration.
2 Surface damage of an aestheticnature which is unlikely torequire remedial action.
Dents or distortion of panels not visiblefrom more than 5m (note visibility ofdamage will depend on surface finishand lighting conditions – damage willgenerally be more visible on reflectivesurfaces), andAny damage visible from closer than5m unlikely to lead to significantdeterioration.
3 Damage that may requireremedial action or replacementof components to maintainappearance or long termperformance but does notrequire immediate action.
Dents or distortion of panels visiblefrom more than 5m, orSpalling of edges of panels of brittlematerials, orDamage to finishes that may lead todeterioration of the substrate.
4 Damage requiring immediateaction to maintain appearanceor performance.
Remedial action may includereplacement of a panel but doesnot require dismantling orreplacement of supportingstructure.
Significant cracks in brittle materialse.g. cracks that may lead to parts of tilefalling away subsequent to test, or
Fracture of panels causing significantamounts of material to fall away duringtest.
5 Damage requiring moreextensive replacement than 4.
Buckling of support rails.

3. SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
Sample 1 comprised 18 tiles
Sample 2 comprised 9 tiles
The terracotta tiles measured 487 mm wide by 894 mm high and had a varying depth profile.
For sample 1, the tiles were support on horizontal rails fixed directly to the concrete wall.
For sample 2, the horizontal support rails were set away from the concrete wall withaluminium brackets and vertical rails.
Details of the system are shown in the drawings are included in the back of this certificate.
The test sample is shown in the following photographs.

4. CONTROLLED DISMANTLE
During the dismantling of the test sample, no additional damage on the rear of the tiles or thesupport frame was observed.

5. TEST EQUIPMENT
The soft body impactor comprised a canvas spherical bag 400 mm in diameter filled with 3mm diameter glass spheres with a total mass of approximately 50 kg suspended from a cordat least 3 m long.
PHOTO 6888
SOFT BODY IMPACTOR
The hard body impactor was solid steel ball of 50.0 mm or 62.5 mm diameter andapproximate mass of 0.5 kg or 1.0 kg.

6. TEST PROCEDURE
The impactor almost touched the face of the sample when at rest. It was swung in apendular movement to hit the sample normal to its face. The impact tests were performed atthe locations shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The impact energies for the soft body impactor were 120 Nm for serviceability and 350 Nm or500 Nm for safety. The impact energy for the hard body impactors was 3 Nm or 6 Nm forserviceability and 10 Nm for safety.
