1.6 How to update the NICE SD card

1. Obtain the updater from your local support site.

2. Insert the NICE SD card to the SD card slot. From Explorer, delete the ‘Iimage’ folder and ‘Module’ folder. DO NOT delete the ‘gwinit.d’ folder.

3. Run the ‘7-zip updater’ to extract files to the root directory of the NICE SD card. This will automatically update the ‘Module’ and ‘Image’ folders.

NOTE:

- Version of ‘NICE’ is dependent on the system/copy firmware version.

- Make sure to always maintain NICE and firmware to the latest version.

1.7 Procedure unique to Pro C9100/ProC9110

Test chart cannot be printed form the NICE application for Pro C9100/Pro C9110. Procure the chart from the GKM and import it to Command WorkStation in the following procedure.

1. Download the NICE chart file from your local support web site

2. Unzip the file.

3. Import the chart to Command WorkStation.

4. Print the chart.

2. How to activate NICE

2.1 Procedure

1. Turn off the machine power.

2. Insert the NICE SD card into the service slot on the GW controller box.

3. Turn on the machine power.

4. Confirm the operation panel displays the NICE main menu screen.

NOTE

If the NICE main menu screen does not appear after doing the above, press the ‘Program’ key on copier models, ‘Printer’ or ‘Fiery (driven)’ key on printer models.

On the Pro C7100/C7110 and Pro C9100/C9110 printer model, pressing the ‘Printer’ and ‘Fiery (driven)’ hard keys on the operation panel does not allow to switch between the NICE menu screen and main screen. Touching any of the hard keys will exit from the NICE menu screen and require a machine reboot to re-enter the NICE menu screen.

Make the following setting to prevent the system from returning to the default screen:

NICE SD card must be inserted into the service slot on the controller box, NOT the slot on the operation panel.

Make sure to turn off the machine power before removing the SD card from the card slot on the controller box.

When removing the SD card from the PC, right click on the SD card and select ‘Eject.’

2.2 NICE menu screen

Icon for the NICE application will be added to the HOME screen of the engine operation panel, to enable easy access to the NICE menu especially for the printer model (which cannot access the NICE menu using the hard keys).

To add the icon, make the following authentication setting: System Settings Administrator Tools Administrator Authentication Management Machine Management Admin. Authentication ON

* [Available Settings] does not have to be changed. NOTE: The added NICE icon disappears when the NICE SD card is removed and reappears

1. Insert the NICE SD card into the SD card slot on the controller box and wait for the NICE main menu screen to appear.

2. Press ‘Sub Menu’ on the main menu screen.

3. From the sub menu screen, press ‘Operate NICE Icon’.

5. When the following screen appears, press User Tools and then the Login/Logout key to display the login screen. Then, have the customer log in. After logging in, press Exit to leave the User Tools menu.

6. Press [Start OK] on the following screen.

2.3 Common procedure for scanning test charts

1. Clean the contact glass and place the test chart so that the barcode printed on the chart positions to the left.

2. For secure contact between the contact glass and chart, put approximately 20 sheets of paper on top of the chart. Make sure to match the corners of the paper and contact glass.

3. Press the Scan button for the adjustment required followed by the Start key. The scanned image will be saved as a tiff file on the SD card.

NOTE If you are working on a printer model and cannot scan the test chart, you may use the scanner embedded on a copier model. Take note that the scanned and saved tiff file will be named after the serial number of the copier, not of the printer.

3. NICE applications 3.1 SMC tool

The SMC Tool application contained in the NICE SD card is the same as ‘ELECTRICAL SMC TOOL’ (p/n: M0779509). See the following RTBs for details.

3.2 Keystone registration adjustment

3.2.1 Objective

Precise registration adjustment of the reference side

Using this function together with ‘NICE for Front/Back Registration’ will achieve high registration precision.

NOTE: Reference side differs by product. See section ‘3.3.3 Requirements’ for detail.

3.2.2 Requirements

Media applied with Custom Paper Settings

Supported media sizes: SRA3, A3, 13” x 19”, 12” x 18”, 11” x 17”, 315mm x 450mm, 318mm x 469mm , custom paper sizes between A4 and 13”x19”

NOTE ‘Keystone registration adjustment’ is not available on MP C6502/C8002. ‘Keystone registration adjustment’ will require a tool, which is made by combining

the following SHEET and COVER.

3.2.3 Procedure for Copier model

1. Press ‘Next’ on the main menu screen.

2. Press ‘Keystone regist: print’ on the main menu screen.

3. Select the tray for the registration adjustment, and then press Select. Note that the adjustment is done for each tray.

NOTE:

Adjustment is available only for trays associated with the custom paper library. Trays used under manual settings are greyed out and cannot be adjusted of the registration.

Pressing ‘Duplex’ will switch to ‘Simplex.’ Default is set to ‘Duplex.’ Switch to ‘Simplex’ for a precise registration of the first side. Select Duplex or Simplex depending on the job.

For Pro C651/C751, the back side is the reference side. Therefore, the paper will pass through the duplex path whether set to Simplex or Duplex.

5. Confirm the following printouts: Test chart (x3), Blank sheet (3 copies printed respectively before and after the test chart)

NOTE: - Blank sheets will not be used for the adjustment. - For Pro 8210/Pro 8220/Pro 8200EX/Pro 8200S/Pro 8210S/Pro 8220S, only one

test chart will be printed.

11. Set the tool on the test chart so that the QR code appears from the cut-out.

Note:

・ Combine the SHEET and COVER to create the tool. See section ‘3.2.3 Requirements’ for procedure.

12. Place the chart affixed to the tool on the contact glass so that the side printed with

the bar code faces down. Make sure the top and left edges of the chart are set flush against the edges of the contact glass.

13. Press [Start OK] to start the scan.

NOTE:

The following message will appear, if 10 minutes have not elapsed since the test charts had been printed. Precise adjustment results may not be obtained, if performed without waiting for 10 minutes.

14. After the scan completes, remove the chart from the contact glass and press [Start OK] on the following screen. Do the same for the 2 other charts.

NOTE: Error message will appear, if the chart was scanned incorrectly as in below.

The same chart was scanned. QR code was not scanned. The chart was not placed correctly on the contact glass.

Press [Start Retry] and scan again to recover from the error.

15. Press [Start OK] after scanning all three charts and confirm the adjustments made.

3.2.4 NICE for Printer model

The NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model is an auxiliary tool to the NICE for the printer model and is to be used with a generic scanner. After scanning the NICE test charts with the generic scanner, the tool measures the charts and generates a parameter code, which is to be input to the NICE for the Keystone registration adjustment

3.2.7 Preparation

Confirming proper behavior of the scanner Set up the scanner on the PC installed with the NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model. Refer to the manual provided with the scanner for the setup procedure.

Selecting the scanner driver

Select the scanner driver from the ‘Settings’ menu > Select the Scanner.

The driver that appears at the top of the list is the default driver.

3.2.8 Procedure for Printer model

3.2.8.1 Printing the test chart Print the test charts for Keystone Registration Adjustment using the NICE SD card.

Important

Make sure to scan the test charts within 24hrs from printing, or the charts will not be measured.

1. Press ‘Print chart Keystone Regist’ on the main menu screen.

2. Select the tray for the registration adjustment, and then press Select. Note that the adjustment is done for each tray.

NOTE:

Adjustment is available only with trays associated with paper from the paper library. Trays used under manual settings are greyed out and cannot be adjusted of the registration.

3.2.8.2 Calculating the parameter code for Keystone Registration Adjustment

1. In the NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model, select [Keystone Registration Adjustment] for Action Mode and click Start.

2. Click OK. Parameters for the keystone registration adjustment will be calculated.

3.2.8.3 Scanning the test chart

1. Set the cover (grey) on the test chart so that the QR codes appear from the cut-outs.

Note:

Make sure the edge of the test chart positions inside the slit of the hook as shown below.

2. Place the chart combined with the grey cover on the contact glass so that the side printed with the bar code faces down. Make sure the top and left edges of the chart are set flush against the edges of the contact glass.

3. In the ‘Scan Chart’ window of the NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model, click Scan.

4. Scan the remaining charts in the same manner.

The ‘Display Result’ window will appear after all charts have been successfully scanned and measured. NOTE: See Help to resolve errors that occur while scanning the test charts.

NOTE: If the check box ‘Display Professional Window’ is specified in Basic Settings, the following screen appears to display the measurements made for the scanned charts.

3.2.8.4 Parameter code display

Parameter code generated from the measurements of the scanned charts appears in the ‘Display Result’ window. To continue with the adjustment, type the parameter code into the NICE application.

3.2.8.5 Inputting the parameter code into NICE

1. Press ‘Adjust: Keystone Regist’ on the main menu screen.

2. Type the parameter code generated from the NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model into the screen below and press [Start Accept]. Adjustment will start.

3.3.5 Overview (Printer models) The NICE Scanner Tool for Printer model is an auxiliary tool to the NICE for the printer model and is to be used with a generic scanner. After scanning the NICE test charts with the generic scanner, the tool measures the charts and generates a parameter code, which is to be input to the NICE for the Front and back registration adjustment.

3.3.8 Printing the test chart

In this procedure, test charts for the Front and Back Registration Adjustment will be printed using the NICE SD card.

Notes on scanning the test charts:

Wait 10 minutes for the test charts to completely contract before scanning, to achieve high adjustment precision.

Test charts must be scanned for the adjustments within 24hrs from printing, or measurements cannot be made.

3.4 FR density adjustment

Calculates and corrects the shading value in main scan direction and applies the corrections to the engine (SP). This adjustment can be done either with the embedded scanner or the spectrophotometer.

3.4.1 Prerequisites

3.4.2.2 Procedure

1. Insert the NICE SD card into the service slot on the controller box.

2. Press ‘Print: FR Adjust’ on the main menu screen. NOTE: This test chart can only be printed on A3 or DLT paper.

75%/60% (75U/60L) and 30%/15% (30U/15L) halftone charts will be printed in CMYK (total of 8 sheets).

3. Place the 75U/60L and 30U/15L charts of the affected color on the contact glass and press ‘Scan: FR Adjustment’ to scan these charts. (See 2.3 ‘Common procedure for scanning test charts’ for the correct scanning procedure.)

4. Press ‘Save SP to SD: FR’ to copy the engine SP data onto the SD card. SP data (SP2152-***) will be saved as a csv file on the SD card.

5. Turn off the main power and remove the SD card from the card slot and insert the SD card into your PC.

7. Select the machine type and paper size (A3 or DLT).

It is recommended to scan from the bottom line to avoid scratches caused by the cable of the spectrophotometer.

Look at the PC screen and confirm scanning has completed before scanning the next line.

How does the ‘Undo the Last’ work

‘04 Load SP: FR Adjust: ES1000’ creates a csv file containing the SP values before the adjustment. ‘02 Undo the Last’ reads this csv file and rewrites the SP values.

‘04 Load SP: FR Adjust: ES1000’ renames the Page Data (txt file containing data of the measurements made with the spectrophotometer) as ‘USED_***.txt.’

3.5 Banding analysis

3.5.1 Objective

Banding analysis is purposed to identify and list the parts/units that are suspected to be causing the banding.

Banding Analyzer and IQ Evaluation used for banding analysis DO NOT modify nor correct any of the machine settings.

3.5.2 Overview

Banding analysis is performed in the following procedure.

3.5.3 Procedure

If you are working on a printer model and cannot scan the test chart, you may use the scanner embedded on a copier model. Take note that the scanned and saved tiff file will be named after the serial number of the copier, not of the printer. Use the same scanner throughout the procedure.


2. Press ‘Test Print: 75% & CSC.’

3. Place the NICE Calibration Chart (p/n: D0749671) on the contact glass and press ‘Scan: Banding’ to scan the calibration chart.

NOTE: See section 2.2 ‘Common procedure for scanning test charts’ for the correct scanning procedure.

4. Place the 75% chart(s) for the color(s) requiring analysis on the contact glass and

press ‘Scan: Banding’ to scan the chart(s).

75% charts (Bk, C, M, Y) are used for analysis.

5. Remove the SD card from the card slot and insert it to the SD card slot on your PC.

3.6.1 Installing the Shock-jitter Finder

1. Unzip the installer and confirm the following 2 folders appear.

2. Run the ‘Setup.exe’ contained in the ‘Volume’ folder.

3. After the installation completes, click ‘OK’ in the window below.

4. In the unzipped folder ‘NICE SJ Finder V2.1 installer,’ select ‘SupportData’ and

click ‘Select Folder.’

5. Wait for the message prompting to reboot your PC to appear. Reboot your PC

and activate the SJ Finder.

6. Click ‘OK’ in the following window.

7. To confirm successful installation, start the SJ Finder and see if all the supported models appear in the list under ‘Machine.’ If any models are missing, do the procedure described in the next section: 3.5.2 Update procedure.
