[ GENERAL ] The fuel injection pumps have continuously been improved over the years, with all modifications
being extensively tested in service to verify the improved performance. The above test results and the general service results gained in recent years, have led us to introduce a new design improvement of fuel injection pumps on HiMSEN H25/33 four-stroke marine engines. [ PHENOMENON ]
Based on our service experience, some problems of current fuel injection pumps have sometimes been reported, which were with its root causes as below.
1. Sticking of plunger and barrel
: Contaminated lubricating oil may cause a lacquering formation on rubbing surface of plunger. Generally, this lacquering phenomenon forms zone A at below picture. The lacquer was analyzed as zinc and sulfur, and it could be created by a mixture of fuel oil and lubricating oil with heat from friction and heated fuel oil.
Furthermore, this lacquering layer with around 10 ㎛ thickness and heavy sludge from
contaminated lubricating oil may cause scoring on plunger.
Above lacquering and scoring would be glowing up as the fuel injection pump goes up and down, then finally the plunger and barrel could be stuck.
