Curves ...

Presenting you images of silver art objects. Images that let you see through the eyes of the artists. Impressions of a quest, a search for shapes and images hidden in every object.Sometimes it looks if we want to pull your leg, give you he wrong impres-sion of an object that isn’t what you think it is.On the other side we like to make a contemporary link between the value element of the silver, the craft and a 21 st. Century approach of design. But most important of all, we would like you to enjoy!

The title of the book gives an indication of the many ways we have to bend en force to accomplish that element that we envy. But on the other hand we also like the bended shapes in the silver object. Hollow shaped and ball shaped; polished surfaces that give these great reflections, mir-ror that what is “outside” of the material.Find the right curve is a result of many years of experience, but it is also a matter of experimenting. This is one of the aspects where the eye of the artist is the most important tool.

We hope that you may experience some of the inspiration that we feel and need, in this book. Please enjoy every page of this book, take your time to come close to objects we made for you...

Curves ...Impressies van zilveren kunstobjecten. Beelden die u op een of andere manier laten kijken door de ogen van de kunstenaars. Indrukken die een zoektocht voorstellen. Onze zoektocht naar de beelden die in elk zilveren kunstwerk “verstopt” zijn.Soms proberen wij u op het “verkeerde been” te zetten, maken een grap-je. Geven u de indruk dat het object niet is wat het lijkt. Aan de andere kant willen wij een hedendaagse verbinding leggen tussen enerzijds het “waarde element” van het zilver, de traditie van het oude ambacht, met anderzijds vormgeving van de eenentwintigste eeuw, nieuwe inzichten omtrent gebruik en misschien het meest belangrijke, het genieten !

De titel van het boek geeft voor ons een indicatie weer van de bochten waarin wij ons vaak moeten wringen om datgene te verwezenlijken, dat ons voor ogen staat. Maar het moet gezegd worden dat we ook bijzon-der gesteld zijn op krommingen in het zilver. Gepolijste oppervlakken geven bijzondere reflecties, spiegelen hetgeen er zich buiten het zilver “afspeelt”. Bochten, krommingen, hol en bol zijn uitingsvormen die een spanning weergeven. De juiste bocht, de juiste kromming is het resultaat van veel ervaring, maar ook van experiment. Hier is het oog van de kun-stenaar onontbeerlijk.

Wij hopen dat u bij het beleven van dit boekwerk een stukje van onze in-spiratie mag ervaren. Neem de tijd om van elke afbeelding te genieten.... er zijn veel beelden in elk object .

“ Mandarin Ball”

Developing the Mandarin Ball was in some way a logical result of the development of the triangular element we used for the lava bowl. Create an almost full sphere with a narrow entrance. A ball shaped form with a transparent appearance. A shape that seems to be regular, but based on an almost chaotic principle.

After creating a prototype out of bronze sheet metal, we were inspired to add colour and texture. When we “pro-duced” the 28 silver elements that can make a ball shape, we needed to decide about colour and/or texture, before mounting the parts together.Our first “ball” became orange from the inside..... manda-rin orange !

Although colours changed as well as the surface struc-tures, the name of Mandarin Ball we kept.This Mandarin Ball is created in two sizes (17 and 23 cm diameter) in a limited edition of nine pieces.

“Mandarin Ball”

Toen we de Mandarin Ball ontwikkelden, was het op een of andere wijze een logisch gevolg van de ontwikkeling van het driehoekvormige element. Een bijna volledige bol te maken met maar een kleine toegang. Een bolvorm die toch een mate van transparantie zou hebben. Een vorm die regelmatig lijkt, maar toch op een bijna chaotisch principe steunt.

Nadat we een prototype hadden gemaakt uit bronzen delen, ontstond het idee van gekleurde of gepatineerde oppervlakken... Na het maken van de 28 zilveren delen welke de bol zouden gaanvormen, diende alvorens de bol werd gemonteerd een besluit te worden genomen omtrent de kleur.De eerste “ball” werd oranje van binnen.....mandarijn oranje !

Hoewel de kleuren veranderden en de oppervlakte struc-turen ook, bleef de naam “Mandarin Ball” overeind.De Mandarin Ball is in verschillende afmetingen (17 en 23 cm doorsnede) in een oplage van negen stuks vervaar-digd.

“Red hot”

or full: red hot liquid Comes Your Way. This ensemble is reminiscent of architecture and maybe even crackers in the chemical industry. And actually a group of objects that can be used in different ways. It is a comprehensive tea set, but also a combined tea and coffee set. This project is a first development within the idea of coffee and tea sets... Do something else to com-bine silver with contemporary materials such as PMMA, a thermoplastic , which we can manipulate in various ways. Next to this we also make the first explorations with car-bon fibre and silver. Silver in a highly polished form, but also available in a version with the surface of the objects sanded in very delicate patterns. Enjoying takes many forms.

“red hot”,

of voluit: red hot liquid comes your way. Dit ensemble doet denken aan architectuur en misschien zelfs aan kraakinstallaties in de chemische industrie. En eigenlijk een objecten groep die op verschillende manie-ren gebruikt kan worden. Het kan een uitgebreide thee set zijn, maar ook een gecombineerde thee en koffieset.Dit project is een eerste ontwikkeling binnen het idee om met koffie en thee serviezen iets anders te doen... Zilver te combineren met eigentijdse materialen als pmma, een thermoplastische kunststof, die we op vele manieren kunnen verwerken. Daarnaast zijn we ook eer-ste verkenningen met carbon fiber en zilver aan ‘t doen.Zilver in een hoogglans gepolijste vorm, maar tevens be-schikbaar in een uitvoering waarbij het oppervlak van de objecten in heel delicate lijnvoering werd geschuurd.Genieten kent vele vormen.

Hammering these bowls starting from a flat sheet of silver takes many hours of hard work. After every round of ham-mering we need to anneal the work to make sure the sil-ver will soften again.

After the bowl has taken it’s shape, we will hand cut a text in the rim of the bowl. Sometimes we use very old texts, sometimes we get inspired by todays circumstanc-es.The last step in the process is to give this object a hand brushed texture in curved patterns.
