The Feed-in Tariff Scheme forRenewable Energy plays an importantrole to promote the popularization ofrenewable energy in Japan, as self-sufficiency rate is low and there is someuncertainty about the possibility in theuse of nuclear energy.

Under the Feed-in tariff scheme forrenewable energy, the regional electricpower utilities required to purchase theelectricity generated by solar, wind,hydro, geothermal, and biomass powerat the fixed prices. As “Next-Generation Energy and SocialSystems Demonstration Project”conducted by METI is regarded as themain project of the Japanesedemonstration project related to SmartCity, it is worth gathering information.

Concurrently, in Japan There are fourmajor demonstration tests of Smart Gridtechnologies: Yokohama in Kanagawa,Toyota in Aichi, Keihannna ScienceCity, and Kitakyushu in Fukuoka.
