Tell Ss about Khalid Al Siyabi- He was the first Omani to climb Mount Everest in 2010. Today we are going to read about two famous people who were the first to do something great like Khalid Al Siyabi.Ask Ss to look at the photos of the two famous firsts in pairs. Ask them if they recognize the two people.ICQs: in pairs or alone?

Ask Ss to match the definitions with the words. Work in pairs. Do one together with the Ss. F/B
Divide Ss into two groups Group A and Group B. Group A to read about Amelia Mary Earhart
Group B to read about Yuri Gagarin
Ask the groups to read their texts fast and give a title to their article.

Ask the groups to read their respective texts in more detail and check if the sentences are true or false. Put a T for true and F for false. Tell Ss to correct the sentences that are false.

Check answers separately with groups A and B.
While checking answers with group A, ask group B to find adjectives describing Yuri Gagarin and underline them.
Assign numbers 1,2,3 to Ss. Ask all 1s, 2s and 3s to raise their hands. Tell the 1s, 2s and 3s to work together (designate place for groups to go and work).
Next tell them to go through the statements together and tell each other about the person in their text.
Model it for them:
On the board show SS ways in which they should discuss
Student A: Amelia Earhart came from a rich family. What about Yuri Gagarin?
Student B: No, his family was poor.
Yuri Gagarin had a short but exciting life. What about Emiia Earhart?
Yes, She also had a short but exciting life.

Encourage Ss to give complete sentences. Show on the board. Comparing and contrasting the two people.- using they both./neither of them.

If there is time:
Tell Ss to ask and answer the questions. Eg student A will ask Student B where Yuri Gagarin was born? Student B answers. Then student B will ask where was Amelia Earhart born. Tell Ss to make notes of the answers.
