Education is closely connected to research

Education is closely connected to research Interesting and knowledge based education requires research

Arguments: Researchers also often teach Researchers produce articles and other material usable for teaching Courses (at university level) must be based on research (at least in Denmark) Research will provide the teacher with interesting perspectives and valid knowledge

Guest lecturing

Danish Standards offer guest lectures to the university (and other edu. institutions) We can provide the teachers with a different and often practical perspective We can help the teacher include standardization in the class – not all teachers feel

comfortable teaching standardization

Facts 22 of our experts give guest lectures within their area of expertise We have a long list of topics on our web site, and people can contact us with special

wishes – if not mentioned on the web site. A broad number of topics – environment, building/construction, management, CE-marking, LCA etc.

9 guest lectures the past two years (three more planned in October and November 2012)

An industrial PhD – what is that?

An Industrial PhD project: “…is an industrially focused PhD education. The research project is conducted in cooperation between a private company, an Industrial PhD student and a university. Third parties from both the public and private sector can be attached.” (Source: Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation)

The industrial PhD degree is as valid as the “ordinary” PhD degree All three parties must apply for a grant at the national authority The company holds all the expenses, but get subsidy from the national

authority The requirements for an industrial PhD student is the same as for an “ordinary”

PhD student An industrial PhD student is employed in the company and is matriculate at

the university as PhD student at the same time – the time is split between the company and the university
